A copy of this film belongs in the library of every place of learning and worship as an antidote to the flood of homophobia engulfing the civilized world. Objections to the sexual-minority person, when they rise above hatred and fear, focus on science and the Judeo-Christian Bible. "For the Bible Tells Me So" answers these objections with factual evidence presented by well-respected religious and scientific authorities. But it also goes further and shows how several families with sexual-minority children matured when they replaced condemnation with knowledge, which led to understanding and acceptance, except in the tragic case of one mother, a follower of James Dobson at the time, who rejected her daughter's lesbianism and then had to cope with her suicide.

One of the most revealing moments of the film occurs at the end, when the victim families of Dobson's doctrines assemble outside his property in protest. At the very least, one would have expected this champion of "Focus on the Family" to appear and offer his condolences to these families for the daughter's suicide and other tragedies. Instead, he remains indoors and has the police arrest the protesters who dare to trespass on his property. What kind of Christianity is that? It's not even basic decency. You can't help ask what kind of God Dobson and his like believe in. They may have the Bible, but it is difficult to find the Good News of Jesus in all of that intolerance and hatred.

I suggest that people like James Dobson and Jimmy Swaggart, both of whom appear in the film, might be more convincing if they would respect the intelligence of their intended audience by countering the evidence of "For the Bible Tells Me So" with something equally intelligent. That way, they might earn our respect if not our concurrence.
