Given all the previous rave reviews, I'm sure I am going to make myself rather unpopular, but I was really rather disappointed with this. My need for a selection of cross stitch alphabets had come about due to making a set of laundry style drawstring bags which needed to be labelled with what they were for, and the most obvious way to do that for me was via cross stitch, however when I went looking for suitable alphabets it quickly became apparent that the majority were more suitable in size for samplers and cards rather than anything in a bigger scale, and although of course you could mess about using different fabric or enlarging the letters, I really didn't have the time and just wanted a quicker alternative. After scouring Amazon, this book seemed to be "the" book to have, and although expensive, I'm sure anybody who enjoys doing crafts themselves will understand how nice it is to treat yourself to something special for your craft projects once in a while, however when the book arrived and I opened it with great expectation, I was left feeling very underwhelmed indeed. So what's wrong with it?. Well first of all it is a very thick book -2 inches to be precise, but because it is a paperback and the cover itself is not particularly substantial, it makes the book feel rather flimsy and off balanced to hold, but the thing that really spoilt it for me was the poor quality of the paper, it's exactly the same sort of paper you get in one of those cheap puzzle books (like Wordsearch or Suduko), and Im sorry but if I am paying nearly £30.00 for a book, I would like and expect it to be, and to feel, a bit better quality than that!. So I was immediately put off, but there was more. As I leafed through it for a second time desperately wanting to like it, I noticed another thing that for me was a big issue. Firstly, while there is a huge selection of alphabets, many of them are a bit "samey", with multiple versions of what I would describe as typical French scroll style, but the real issue for me was that although there are a few pages at the start of the book with "some" lower case alphabets, all of the main variety of alphabets are only in capital letters, and the handful of lower case ones given are not designed to match any of the upper case ones at all, are completely separate from them, and so all you could do would be to pick an upper case alphabet first then "try" to make one of the lower case ones fit the main style you had chosen, and to be honest looking at them I think that would be at best quite difficult, at worst impossible, and what I would have preferred and would have been much more useful, would have been to have both the upper and lower case of the same alphabet provided together, but as it is, unless you just want to use upper case letters in your project - in which case no problem at all - it would leave you a bit stuck. So all in all - and I was very disappointed to conclude - I was just going to have to return the book. However I have come up with a plan!. I sorted through my own collection of cross stitch books and patterns that I already have, and am going to get some good quality photocopy paper, along with clear sleeves and a ring binder, and put together my own "user friendly" file of alphabets, and although there wouldn't be quite so many of them they would at least be more useful, not to mention a whole lot cheaper!. Yes, no doubt about it this is a very thorough book of alphabet styles, but for me what lets it down is the poor quality of the book itself, and the fact that unless you don't mind just using capital letters, the whole point of having such a variety in the first place is completely lost.

Ho acquistato questo libro in quanto cercavo qualcosa che mi permettesse di creare delle scritte veloci a punto croce, senza dover ogni volta dover sfogliare tutte le riviste che ho in casa per trovare la scritta giusta, ma soprattutto con la dimensione giusta.
Pratico per il verso grandezze, che vanno da lettere di pochi punti a quelle più grandi, unico neo, che pensavo di trovare ogni singolo alfabeto con le sue maiuscole e le relative minuscole, invece non è così, se si vuole una scritta di doppio carattere bisogna un pochino andare a costruirsela, e non sempre risulta immediata.
Valido aiuto, ma forse non indispensabile.
