Bigger Things isn’t just a fluffy book about the drama of three friends. I found it at times a really intense journey into the discussion of body image and how it affects us all. There were parts that I sped through at breakneck speed because I just couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. There were parts where the words used in the dialogue or description were so unexpectedly perfect that I had to read and reread just to savour them, or just to giggle with glee. There were many parts where I had to stop and put the book down for a while to take time to ponder the ways that I had been changed by what I had just read. There were a few parts that were so hard to read that they physically hurt, yet the message to be learned from them made them worth it. Despite the difficult topic, Bigger Things is a very uplifting book with lovable, very real characters that I will miss now that the story is over.

In this book, the author shows a keen ability to present reality under the guise of fiction. The characters are intertwined but not stifled, they are bonded but yet remain individuals, they are true friends in every sense of the word. The whole evolving of friendship is served to the reader in an open, sometimes harsh but very credible way. This book invokes so many emotions while building on the diverse personalities of the characters but at the same time satisfies the soul in knowing that we can all fit into the grand scheme of things. This author also gives insight into the fact that, while two is company, with real friends, three is not a crowd but rather a strong tower. Excellent read dealing with some pretty tough material in a down-to-earth manner. Truly, this author is observant, caring and understands the workings of the inner person. Already looking forward to the next "installment".

It is a sensitive and insightful journey into the psychology of body image and the use of eating and starving as a means of controlling negative emotions. As you come to know and love these three wonderful whacky women you will laugh, cry and finally rejoice as they learn to make peace with the past and walk forward into a brighter future with a better understanding of each other and themselves. An excellent read, I heartily recommend it.

I happily discovered bits of my own philosophy in each of the three friends, which made following them as they grew and changed during the story even more meaningful to me. Inside this tale of three women and their friendship since childhood is an insightful look at body image and how the world perception causes most women to be dissatisfied with their body. I think the blub describes the plot well so I will just say that this is a book about how we keep secrets - even from our best friends. I loved the letters to and from Fat Girl! Snark may be a good defense against people who think they need to comment about our bodies to our face. This book is first about friendship - and finding a you that you love. I was well entertained.

I have just spent a very pleasant weekend reading Bigger Things. It was a great read. I was really drawn in to the story, and wanted to keep reading to find out what happened to each character.

Bigger Things tells the story of three women, friends since childhood. As in many long-term relationships, their interactions are by turn cranky, funny, hurtful, honest, and ultimately filled with love for each. Kyra, Jen, and Chelsea are each trying to live their lives and find happiness, while working through some fairly intense and unresolved issues from the past. The issue of how people view women’s bodies and the use of an Agony Aunt named “Fat Girl” twine through the story, bringing sharp jolts of recognition to almost any woman (or person) who has looked in a mirror and been shocked at the reflection.

There is some heavy stuff – just a bit of tough language in a few spots, and a difficult topic for some people to read about – but really well balanced with humour. I laughed out loud in a few places. Some heat, interspersed with abstinence, made for a nice change of pace also.

I highly recommend this one – put it on your To-Be-Read pile ASAP!

I loved this book!
It gave me a serious insight about how we women percept our body sizes and thus react to social tendencies. I always knew it runs much deeper than just eating issues one way or the other. There are traumatic reasons causing those problems not always visible to other people even those who love you and really care about you.
This book shows it how almost everyone can relate to it in some ways.
I loved the story line about three best friends though each keeping secrets. All of them so realistic and true.
Luckily there were a lot of funny humorous moments too.
