Product Description

Ryan Chase left Fairbanks, Alaska, when she was 21 years old to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Somewhere along the way her dreams of stardom crashed and burned, along with her life.

Thirteen years later she is forced to return to Fairbanks because her unforgiving and emotionally-distant father has suddenly died. Ryan seizes the opportunity to not only escape her abusive husband but to be able to attend her best friend's wedding. What could go wrong? It's only Fairbanks, Alaska...
While wishing she was anywhere but her father's funeral and wake, Ryan is struck senseless by a stunning, drop-dead gorgeous man. Her thoughts turn carnal and she desperately wants to know him in every way—and position—possible. There's only one problem...

He's the devil's spawn.
He's the one who marked her for life.
He's the kid she used to baby-sit.
And he's hotter than hell!

Shea Michaels has loved Ryan Chase for most of his life. After surviving an unspeakable childhood, he became a man of whom she could be proud ...if she ever came back.
Now that she's returned, Shea pursues her with a vengeance, undaunted by the thirteen year age difference that Ryan uses as the shield between them.

Confusion, guilt and lust bombard Ryan as she battles the memories of the little boy she used to know while still being drawn to the heart-stopping man he has become.

***18+ due to explicit sexual situations, graphic language and intense adult themes.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read this when there was a 13 year age difference between them. But I quickly got over that. They are so good together and he is so sweet, I absolutly love him!!

Was a little skeptical when I started reading this book - there being a 13 year difference between the characters. But the book is really well written - and the age difference didn't really matter. Loved the Jerry Springer moments - they added amusement and kept me from skimming to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of bite to the story May 31 2014

So this book has a rather attractive guy on the cover that caught my attention, but the book itself was a pleasant surprise. Ryan is back home in Alaska for her dad's funeral while trying to escape her abusive husband in New York. She is feeling pretty low about life, she had lofty career goals as an actress that aren't coming true, her father and her were not on the best of terms before his death and her marriage is a failure. Ryan comes off as very strong willed, outspoken and rebellious, but actually, she's very down-to-earth, funny and self-aware of her strengths and weaknesses. She is even self-deprecating at times, because life hasn't turned out as planned so good things coming her way surely can't last, including love. Shea, the kid that Ryan used to baby-sit 13 yrs ago before she left Alaska (and is 13 years younger than her), is all grown up now and he never forgotten about her. As an 8 year old, he was convinced that Ryan was the one for him. At 21 years old, he is more determined than ever that this is still true. Ryan tries to reconcile this unusual attraction for a kid she knew while she was a college-aged adult with the present situation. Shea and Ryan's family are somewhat intertwined, including Shea's sister, Trina, being Ryan's best friend. Aside from the age gap, there are some other issues thrown in the mix to complicate things, further fueling the idea to Ryan that a relationship with Shea would not not be a good idea. As much as I really liked Ryan, I loved Shea. He was the perfect blend of hot and sexy with sweet and tender and he was far from being a jerk despite a turbulent childhood. He adored Ryan and cherished her, and he didn't give up easily even when things got tough. Ryan proved to be a survivor who could handle tough situations and she was even better off with Shea. Although Shea and Ryan's relationship was a large part of the story, there was still a component including Ryan's self journey to becoming more independent and less selfish while making something of her life, teaching herself self-forgiveness and allowing herself as many chances as it took to live the life she deserved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Excellent read. June 14 2014

I loved this book! I was initially captivated by the cover and the blurb…title not so much, but when I read the story I completely understand how the title means so much to the story. Andrew “Shea” has loved Ryan since he was 8 years old. Ryan moved away to New York City when she was 21 years old to pursue her dreams of acting. Those dreams didn’t pan out the way she thought they would and she now finds herself back in Fairbanks, Alaska. When Shea was 8 years old he had an issue with biting. When he learned that Ryan was leaving, he bit her and in return she bit him. They both have the scars to show they are bonded for life.

Thirteen years have now passed and Ryan is 34 years old. She is returning to her hometown to bury her father and finding an escape. This was the perfect time to run from her abusive husband, to whom she has been married to for 5 years. Shea is no longer the bratty 8-year-old boy that Ryan once babysat. He is now 21 years old and is studying to be a veterinarian. He has done well with his life considering the abuse he had to endure as a child from his father. He almost didn’t survive the last attack. Shea went through a dark phase in order to cope with the abuse. He used alcohol, drugs, and sex as an escape. Shea has been having sex since he was 13 years old.

When Ryan sees a tall, dark and handsome man at the funeral she has no idea who he is but is soon rendered speechless when she finds out who he is…”I had just been eye-f*cking the kid I used to babysit.”

Shea has been holding onto hope that one day Ryan would return home and see him not as the boy she used to babysit, but as a man who is worthy of being loved. Shea’s attempts at having Ryan see him as this man are unsuccessful.

Quote: “I’m laying down the torch I’ve carried for thirteen years. I actually dreamed about this moment for years, and I honestly thought that if you saw what I had become you might want me, but I can’t force you. I can’t make this happen, regardless of how much I want it to.”

Shea’s heart has been shattered by Ryan not once, but now twice in his life. He is utterly defeated. My heart hurt for him. Ryan wants Shea, but she cannot get past the huge age gap between them, that she used to babysit him, and the fact that she is still married.

I have to admit that I rarely am able to read a book cover to cover without taking a peek at the end. For some reason I decided I was not going to peek and I was going to ride the wave of angst. Hours after I finished this book I was still feeling my stomach hurting. Shea and Ryan’s story touched a part of my heart and soul and it continued to remain. So what did I do?...I went back to re-read the story! They are stuck in my mind!

I can’t say enough good things about this book. The hotness factor alone is 5 stars! The love that Shea carried for Ryan all those years is unfathomable. Shea is an enigma, and one that deserves to be discovered. He hurts, he loves, and he holds strong when the walls are crashing down around them. There is no wrong age when it comes to love even at the age of 8 years old.

4.0 out of 5 stars angsty but so well-written! Aug. 20 2014

This is a really great story - if you like a lot of angst. I did not like the level of angst present in this story, but I still thought it was very, very well-written. The plot - estranged daughter returns home too late, but learns to heal through falling in love with an unexpected man from her past - was new to me. There is quite an age difference between Ryan and Shea (13 years) and I L O V E D that that particular drama didn't last overly long, because I really liked that part of the storyline.

Shea is a delicious and sexy and H O T L Y insatiable BBF. : ) Seriously, I don't think he's human, but in the best possible way. LOL ; ) Ryan ... oh, Ryan. I got her, for the most part. I understood where she was coming from in the beginning w/ not wanting to reveal her big secret to Shea, but that went on TOO LONG. There came a point where her holding on to that information became aggravating and my sympathy level for her sank a little. (Sunk? Anyway. I didn't like it.)

The last couple chapters & the epilogue reeled it back in from a 3 to a 4 star for me. As I said, the story is very well-written; beautiful even. And if you like a lot of angst, then I think this could be a 5 star read for you! : )

WOW! Ryan and Shea had me hooked from page one to the very last! I read it all in one sitting. Let me tell you, it was an awesome way to spend my lazy Sunday...relaxing and reading a great book. I loved how the tables are turned in this work! Older woman, younger man...the inner thoughts of such a thing inside the woman, who once was Shea's sitter. Shea, who 13 years younger then Ryan loved her completely, deeply and unconditionally his whole life, even after she left home and moved away. A shattered broken boy, grown into a well rounded man and survived the unthinkable abuse thrust upon him by his own father. Ryan, who fought with her father, never feeling up to par for him, wanting more than the life she had in Alaska up and left when she was 21, leaving 8yr Shea, the boy she sat for and supported through his rough times. This story is fast paced, filled with no holes, no down time, nothing up twists, turns, ups and downs, love, hate, anger and betrayal of loved ones. Could this group over come, group meaning Shea, Ryan and Trina...Shea's sister. I couldn't put the book down, I needed more, I needed to know how their story panned out and when it did, I was not disappointed only thrilled that I stumbled upon this book and dove into it today! Don't let this good read slip through your fingers. Let Shea and Ryan, sweep you in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! Aug. 29 2014

One of my favorite books of the year...loved, loved, LOVED it!!! Loved the whole younger man aspect, so nice to see that for a change instead of always older man/younger woman. Just enough angst and drama without being overdone. Plenty of hot sex! Shea is a doll, I need one of my own! I just want to gush over this book, it was wonderful.

010515 Started rereading this today so I will write a better review this time around! I think the first time I was just so overwhelmed with Shea I wasn't able to form a coherent thought!
Ugh, I'm reading "that part" and I'm dying again...

I don't know what else I can write about this, it was one of my favorite books last year and it still is!

Shea has waited 13 years for Ryan to return to God, that just makes me swoon on its own. He was just a little 8 year old kid that she used to babysit, before she up and left for New York. He never gave up on her..."She was everything to him, and he loved her." He knew from the beginning she would be his, even telling her father that he was going to marry her! "He'd wait for her, no matter what. He would love Ryan forever."

After Ryan's father dies she makes what she thought would be a temporary move back to Alaska for his funeral and to handle his estate. She gets her first look at Shea at the reception, but she has no clue it's him- she just thinks he's some random hottie. So funny when she finds out it's really Shea..."I had just been eye-fu$king the kid I used to babysit."
Oh poor Ryan, the conflicting emotions she has to deal with!

So many emotions throughout this book, I felt for both Shea and Ryan, my heart hurt for each of them.
"I'm laying down the torch I've carried for thirteen years. I actually dreamed about this moment for years, and I honestly thought that if you saw what I had become you might want me, but I can't force you. I can't make this happen, regardless of how much I want it to. I hoped that you would want me, but's obvious you don't." Oh Shea, you don't need Ryan, I am here for you!!!

Ryan doesn't easily give in, but once she does, The heat between these 2, the mouth on Shea, off the charts.

I don't even want to go into the angsty part of the book because it just makes me so anxious. It was very well written, the heartache they both felt- I really hope Cory Cyr adds that part in Shea's book she is writing, I really want to see it through his eyes.
