Product Description

After enduring an abusive childhood and having her heart broken by the only boy she trusts, Alexis White vows never to let anyone hurt her again. She’s left her troubled past behind and starts a new life at college. For the past seven years, her social calendar has been filled with frat parties, drinking, and meaningless sexual hook-ups. Until one night she unexpectedly gets saved by a tall, dark, and handsome French foreigner, Luc Blanchard. He’s charming, sophisticated, and very interested in Lexi, who has presented herself as a challenge when she tells him relationships aren’t her thing.

She finds herself sucked in by his own intriguing past. But everything changes when Dylan Priestley, the gorgeous boy who broke her heart and shattered her faith in friendship and love, suddenly shows up in her life again while back home on a visit. Dylan doesn’t hide his feelings for Lexi, but she can’t forgive or forget being betrayed by the one person she ever truly loved.

Despite the pain Dylan’s caused her, Lexi is once again drawn to the blue-eyed boy-next-door. Will Lexi choose the man who seems perfect but hides a dark side or the boy who smashed her heart into pieces so many years ago?

Don't be mislead by my rating, I did like this just wasn't for me. I tend to not like characters like Lexi, but after reading through the book, I understand why she is the way she is. Lex is a strong girl. The way she handles situations in the book is remarkable.

It's no wonder Luc has an attraction to her. BUT WHY DID THERE HAVE TO BE A CLIFF-HANGER! I swear, I don't know why I sign up for cliff-hangers. This book is so amazing though, and I'm torn from that cliffy. Guess I'm going to have to wait for the next one.

It is a page turner but there were some parts I had to pause and take a moment to digest what happened. I like R.C.'s writing style and I can't wait to read the second.

Another reason I like this book is that it's set in my town...TORONTO! Yay! I can finally envision actual scenery without having to guess what it looks like. So many of the places mentioned, such as the Eaton Centre, are places I usually go on a daily basis because my school is right next door to it. Fun fact: I used to go to RyersonU, which is a 12 minute walk from UoT and is much closer to the Eaton Centre. Yeah. So. Freaking. Cool. R.C. Stephens is a fellow Torontorian and screw me for being biased about loving her book mainly because of that.

I absolutely loved this book! Lexi kind of irritated me but then once I heard what she endured as a kid and growing up, I fell in love with her personality. I felt the same way for Dylan but again fell in love with him. LUC......uggh don't get me started....I wanted to throw my kindle....jump through my kindle and of course beat my kindle all at the same time! I knew he was way to good to be true and this amazing author weaved one crazy story line. Sadly there's a cliff hanger but the wait has been worth it....DEFINITELY! I'm off to write my review for book 2....awesome job and fabtabulous books.

HASH(0x9ff0d780) out of 5 stars Fantastic Cover, Intriguing Blurg! Jan. 31 2015
By Feeding My Addiction Book Reviews - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
First, off I thought the cover was unique. It drew my interest in this book. As well, the blurb intrigued me.

Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like this book, I didn’t. I hate writing reviews for books that didn’t work for me, because there is a fine line between constructive criticism and cruelty and I never want to be cruel.

This is about Alexis White, who comes from an abusive family and is now in law school. She has abandonment issues and has sworn off relationships.

While at school she has meaningless, one-night-stands that sometimes create issues when men think they can take advantage of her whenever they want. Coming to her rescue, Luc, a handsome Frenchman, keeps a potentially devastating situation from occurring. After seven years of avoiding relationships, Alexis can’t resist Luc’s persistence and falls for his charms. That is until her first and only love, Dylan suddenly shows on her mother’s front porch where she is sitting…

OK, where this book went wrong for me:

I never connected with the characters, never felt their pain or understood why they did the things they did. For instance; it struck me as odd that our MC and her best friend went to undergrad as virgins, made a pact on how to deal with relationships which included meaningless hookups. This didn’t work for me. Also, Alexis had endured a traumatic childhood, took care of her younger sister and was now in law school – a strong woman right? But she kept making stupid decisions, including, ignoring warnings from the two people who meant the most to her.

The voice and tone of the book were not engaging. We are told why Alexis did the things she did; what her motivation for her meaningless hookups, drunken adventures and resistance to relationships were, rather than experiencing it and drawing our own conclusions.

I also struggled with the bouncing back and fourth between past and present. It was all very confusing. I didn’t see the purpose. This back story could have been told to me in the beginning and perhaps made the book more meaningful.

There was too much over the top drama, poor communication and the situation was too cliche’, until about 60% of the way through the book when a little bit of mystery was thrown in. Honestly, I think this would have added greatly to the book had it been introduced much sooner.

As I look back at other reviews, I see that I am the odd ball here. So please take all in to account – and don’t base your opinion solely on my review- before deciding on whether to read this.

NOTE: there is a HUGE CLIFFHANGER at the end of this book (apparently the next book will soon follow). I do want to know how the mystery wraps up, dangit! So if you are going to read this, be aware of that ending!

HASH(0x9febc9f0) out of 5 stars Steamy Twisty Tale Jan. 29 2015
By Jamie Zishka - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Bitter Sweet Love was the first book in the Twisted series. This book will definitely make your brain twist and turn and leave you guessing as to what will happen next. I would give this book a 4 stars! This book is a love triangle of sorts.. the new sexy french man Luc versus the boy next door first love Dylan. There is more depth to the story than just a love story... Alex is trying to forget the scars of her past by moving on with her life, but when the whirlwind story continues on she will find it hard to find what she is looking for.. but what if what she was looking for she already had and she let a lie destroy that?

Alex and Dylan grew up together and became each others first loves in highschool, but when a disastrous prom breaks them apart and they part ways to there separate colleges they decide they have to move on with there lives and forget about the past. But there is only one problem Dylan can't move on he just has to prove his worth to Alex.. but will it be too late?? When Alex is on her own she becomes the one night stand queen she doesn't date and she certainly will never love again... but when a sexy french man Luc enters the picture she finds herself letting down her walls and feels that maybe she can breath again.. fate always has a way of stepping in when Dylan comes back. Both men will be a challenge for Alex but who will she choose in the end? Or will another twist of fate make that decision for her? And will she finally see the true colors of Luc before it is too late??

If you want a story that will make you wanna slap the heroine for being so naive and stupid at times and then want to be jealous of her at the same time.. because who wouldn't want 2 sexy men chasing you?? Then this is the story for you.. don't worry its not ur typical boy meets girl falls in love leaves and they reunite OH no it is so much more and by the end you will be having a WTF moments many times. Go One-Click this book ASAP!!!

HASH(0xa07b1984) out of 5 stars Bitter Sweet Love Hate Relationship May 5 2015
By Sarah Miles - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I had one of the most intense love/hate relationships I've ever experienced with a book before while I was reading this one. I tried so hard to love it, I repeatedly wanted to give up on it and I hated how often it had me bubbling with anger at the infuriating actions of the heroine, Lexi White. I loved the premise, I'm not always such a fan of love triangles but this one sounded so intriguing so I had to give it a whirl and thankfully was one of the strongest points of the story. The protagonist here is Lexi, with an awful upbringing and a hoard of awful lifestyle choices under her belt we start her tale as she is struggling to make something of her life. Feeling utterly betrayed and humiliated by almost everyone she leads a fairly closed off and depressingly lonely existence. So what will happen when she meets a man who's just too good to be true and the man that she should have spent her life with makes a reappearance after several years of no communication?

Dylan Priestly and Luc Blanchard make up two sides of the love triangle and formed the strongest links to hold the storyline together. Dylan's the knight in shining armour while Luc is the devil in a very thinly veiled disguise but both were what kept me persevering with the story. I never consider it a good thing when you're rooting more for the villain than the damsel in distress but Luc just managed to win me over more than Lexi. He was cruel, dastardly and could be terrifyingly unpredictable but he still managed to make me fall in love with him. Dylan was a man who had many a regret in his short life but he was always able to own up to them and tried to right his wrongs, even if his timing was pretty off. But they were both such well written, interesting characters that I often found my heart torn between loving good and bad.

"I take a long hard look in the mirror. I’m seriously messed up, still, after so many years. Seven years since I’ve seen him; yet, his betrayal burns in my throat. I have to move on. I have to get him out of my system. But I can’t and I can’t let Luc believe I can be with him either."

Lexi, I'm not even sure where to start with my feelings toward her character. She infuriated me and I'm not sure that I ever found a redeeming moment with her. She was too rash, too impulsive and often far too selfish. But my main issue was how she would acknowledge a problem and then before the paragraph had ended she had completely back tracked and washed all of her own nagging doubts and suspicions away. I tried so hard to click with her and I had hoped that once I learned of how Dylan had betrayed her, seven years previous, that I would be able to forgive some of her misgivings but it just made me have an even harder time trying to understand her. She had an awful upbringing but her level of childishness could be painful to read at times and I sometimes felt that it didn't quite excuse or explain her adult lifestyle choices.

As much as I had trouble trying to form a connection with Lexi's character I did enjoy the story here and will definitely be picking up book two in the series to see where the cliffhanger ending of Bitter Sweet Love manages to take this threesome's tale. The last few chapters especially were thoroughly enjoyable and engaging and completely managed to hook me. I hope that with book two I manage to form more of a compassion for Lexi but I look forward to the challenge of trying to understand her actions and reasonings further.. All in all not a bad start to the series.

"It seems everyone knows he didn’t cheat on me, but he also didn’t keep his promises. He promised that no matter what he would keep me in his life, and at the first sign of trouble he ran off to university and hasn’t looked back since. So he may not be a cheater, but he is a liar.
I needed and depended on him for most of my life. It was a huge adjustment and loss not having him around in some form for the last seven years. So things didn’t work out between us, but he still could have been a friend. But truthfully I can never imagine us only being friends. Tonight was a perfect example. We got close and I found myself kissing him. Mind over heart, Lex. You need to put mind over heart."

I was kindly provided with a copy of Bitter Sweet Love to read and review.

HASH(0xa005809c) out of 5 stars It will pull you into her world! Luc and Dylan... Jan. 28 2015
By The Book Fairy Reviews - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
So most of the time when you read a book you understand and empathize with the main character. You feel her pain and cheer her on for finding the one that will heal her and make her complete. Yeah, you get made at her for the messes she might get herself in but in the end you find that you love her so much you can over see what has done because all is right in her world.
Well, as you can probably guess I am so mad at Lexi or Alexis. yes she has had it tough, I totally understand that. Yes she has major issues and her coping mechanisms are not healthy.. totally understand. Yes, she falls into a situation that she should have been able to get herself out of.. not understand! She has two men Luc and Dylan. One is her soul mate one is the one who will pull her back into hell. So yeah I am a little peeved at her.
This book definitely pulled out major emotions from me, I mean I connected with Lexi, I could see the patterns and feel her pain. I can see why she fell into this destructive situation, she feels unworthy..TOTALLY GET IT!
Luc is sexy, and yeah he makes her hott! But is he her soul mate?
Dylan, her protector, her first love, but he broke her heart(or did he) will he be able to save her now?
Now why oh why do I feel upset? Cuz I want to see her wake up and get what she really deserves. I want to feel her happiness I want to cry for joy not out of fear or sadness. In short R.C I want more! I can't wait to see what happens next?

Wow what a brilliant book to start of the Twisted series.

From chapter one I was hooked I couldn't get through it quick enough. I just had to keep finding out what was going to happen, and with the twists and turns it made me stay up most of the night to read it.

R C Stephens sure knows how to keep you intrigued. Bitter Sweet Love is mainly from Alexis pov of view but we do get a bit of Dylan's pov along the way.

Alexis is strong willed, she is in uni studying law. She lives her life how she wants to with the help of her best friend Anna. Both girls are young and free.

Alexis is hiding from her past though, but her past comes crashing back into her life.
Meeting the handsome French man Luc Alexis thinks he can turn her around, he is charming and French.
But we all know when your past comes back there is no escaping and Handsome Frenchman Luc may not be all Alexis thought he was.

This story takes you on a whirlwind of love and betrayal and very unexpected twists and turns.

I'm really looking forward to book two.
