HASH(0xa3da296c) out of 5 stars Laurencia Hoffman has written a fabulous tale filled with twists and turns Aug. 27 2015

BITTERSWEET is such a beautiful story but one that will have you reaching for the tissues. It is heartbreaking and filled with love. I read this wonderful story in one sitting and now I am telling everyone I know that they need to read it. I found myself holding my breath when Rowan and Cade found each other again after twenty five years of being separated. Laurencia Hoffman has written a fabulous tale filled with twists and turns and an ending that will take your breath away. My only complaint was that I wanted the story to be longer. I was left longing for more. I think that says everything when an author can do that to you. I'm looking forward to reading more by Ms. Hoffman
HASH(0x9e691b1c) out of 5 stars A Heartlifting, Superb Read Sept. 18 2015

Witches and warlocks, spite and revenge, love and hate --- all these elements are present in the excellent YA thriller, Bittersweet. It's a real page-turner, with enough twists and turns to satisfy any reader.
It all starts with the blood feud between the Redgraves and the Blackwells --- two families of witches and warlocks that have been fighting for hundreds of years. No one is even sure how it all started. But no matter. Just about any provocation is good enough reason to send spells and fireballs flying at each other, and there's no end in sight.

Especially now that Cade Blackwell and Rowan Redgrave have fallen in love. Their families vow to split them up, and split them they do when Cade accidentally kills Rowan's brother Avery.

Devastated by guilt and remorse, Cade disappears with his family and Rowan is left to marry another young man -- Adam -- with whom she has a baby girl.

Fast forward 25 years. Cade and Rowan bump into each other in a small town gift shop. The meeting turns awkward when Cade discovers Rowan is now the married mother of a grown daughter, Iris. Nevertheless, they agree to meet again and "catch up." The encounter ends with a friendly handshake, even though both have been having erotic dreams about each other for years.

The story then takes an unexpected turn, and Rowan is swept away with indecision. Should she stay with Adam, or run away with Cade -- her first true love?

This novel reaches well beyond the normal confines of young love and teenage angst so popular in the YA genre. Indeed, it is a multilayered tale of the hard choices and often bittersweet decisions that end up profoundly affecting who and what we are.

The story of Cade and Rowan surpasses even the standard romance themes, choosing instead to delve into the gritty consequences when families are ripped apart by old flames and reconsidered futures.

In one particularly surprising turn of events, a Council of witches and warlocks -- the court of last resort in this community -- is called to pronounce judgment on Cade and Rowan's deepening relationship.

Who will be impacted by their binding decision? Hearts will take flight or be broken, and there's no telling where the outcome will leave the unfortunate daughter, Iris. Torn in two by the situation, we grieve with her as she tries to come to grips with an increasingly complex web of emotions.

Bittersweet rates a five-star award for its precise and elegant writing style and its ability to carry its readers on a rising tide of genuine romance from start to finish.

Cade and Rowan meet by chance one day. They become friends, but their magickal families have been at war for centuries. Despite this, Rowan likes Cade and wants the feud to end. Things go badly and the two are torn apart, only to meet up years later. Does love last? Will they be together again?
An interesting story about two magickal people who try to overcome the odds to be together. I enjoyed reading it and I would recommend it.
