Product Description

In the village of La Souf, Jean Louis is known as “Black Magic Man,” but his feats of magic as a sorcerer are nothing compared to the abilities he keeps hidden from human eyes. Jean Louis is under the tutelage of a Master Magician, and telepathy is only one of his many talents. It’s a talent that leads him to beautiful, sensual Solange Esnard, who instantly triggers all Jean’s primal urges. He recognizes in Lange the spirit of his long-gone love, but convincing her of that will take every bit of skill and talent he has, maybe even his death.

Solange has known about the powers of the Black Magic Man ever since she was a child. She has no reason to believe she would attract the attention of one, especially one as powerful as Jean Louis. She is happily married and loves her husband to death. When she is subjected to the unwelcome attention of Jean Louis, will she be strong enough to pit her will against that of a Black Magic Man? Only love, true cunning, and a bit of luck may possibly prove her successful in this battle for the one she love.

Received the book for an honest review. This is the first book I've read by Ju Ephramie and it won't be the last. Jean Louis is a Black Magic Man who recognizes the soul of a long lost love reincarnated in a happily married, Solange. Jean Louis uses his powers to persuade Solange while she fights against his power. The characters are likeable, believable an pad interesting. They are your typical hero, heroine and villain. There is romance, paranormal, lust and suspense. A good mix for an entertaining read.

Okay, where do I start with Black Magic Man? I’m a huge fan of the paranormal and four of my own works fall under the genre. What made Black Magic Man stand out for me was the way author Ju Ephraime wrote her characters, especially Jean Louis. I mean; are readers supposed to feel sympathy for the villain because that’s what I felt as I read this interesting book. Yes, he used his magical powers to fulfill sexual desires but when it came to Solange/Lange, he really did feel something special for her because of a woman from her past.

When I started reading the story I thought it was going to be an erotica but that didn’t happen. Yes, there are erotic scenes in the story but the way Ju wrote and wove them into the plot made it more romantic rather than in-your-face erotica. So, if you aren’t a fan of erotica but still want a story about lust with black magic involved, you should definitely give this book a read. I’ve been meaning to brush up on my ‘romance’ writing skills without making it come across as erotica and I do believe reading this book has helped me understand a bit more about the process.

The characters in the story are Jean Louis, Solange, and Rupert (her husband). All of the characters are fleshed out and that’s what I enjoyed about Black Magic Man. A lot of times writers tend to write villains as evil just for the sake of it but not Ju. She made Jean into a ‘character’, and as I said above, a character that will probably make you feel sorry for him. That’s the thing about Black Magic Man, it will take you up close and personal to the characters and you will get to know how they ‘feel’. You get to read about Jean lusting after Solange and the reason behind it and it will also transport you into Solange’s shoes as she tries to fight him off. It’s a tale of good vs.

If you asked me in what genre I would place this book, I would be hard pressed for an answer. Going by the name and the blurb, I expected a paranormal theme, but this book is so much more. The author weaves in romance, suspense and intrigue seamlessly into her story. The characters reach out to you and at various points in the book I kept rooting for different characters, because of the circumstances and situations that they found themselves in.

I couldn't decide whether Jean was good or bad, nice or not. The things he does are for reasons beyond his control and you kind of sympathise with him. Solange is torn between the two men and having met both, you aren't sure who you want her to end up with and you can't wait to see who it will be. This is the first book that I have read by this author and am sure I will be reading a lot more. I love her writing style. It is lyrical and pleasing. I enjoyed the book and will recommend it.

This is the first time for me reading something by this author, and it won't be the last either. I look forward to reading more from talented author Ju Ephraime. Careful attention has been given to developing a compelling plot, establishing mood, and painting scenery in vivid, broad-brush strokes. And the storytelling is exquisite, allowing the reader to get as close to the protagonists emotional life: doubts, fears, tears, strengths, and weaknesses. We get as close to the action as we can possibly bear. I highly recommend this story for any reader who likes to be able to use their own knowledge of the world and apply it to the story as it unfolds. This always picks up the pace briskly as the reader is driven by curiosity to know what lies on the next turn of the page.
