HASH(0xb31a43fc) out of 5 stars Awesome Sound Nov. 16 2010

Great Album, it is along the lines of Nile with its themes, but the music sound reminds me more of Behemoth, which is another great band.

This is a death metal band that hails from Egypt and plays on the more technical side of the metal spectrum. Not quite as brutal as say, Suffocation or Defeated Sanity, but the music is still very dense and tight. The songs are well arranged and played -the guitars aren't quite as heavy as I prefer, but quibbles aside, sound killer. The bass is heard, which is surprising -well done.

The drumming is very well played and the sounds great with the exception of the kicks: they are way too "electronic, trigger" sounding. Meaning there's too much definition and not enough "in your gut" with the kicks. Listen to Suffocation's "Pierced from Within" or "Despise the Sun" and you'll understand what I mean. This is a BIG issue, my opinion, with death metal drummers as they are the biggest abusers of triggers and electronic sounds to augment their kits. Again, this is MY quibble, not an album detractor.

Overall well played, great production and sound. If you like well executed technical death metal, I recommend this band and this album.

Scarab is a good Brutal Death Metal band. They do run along the lines of Nile. The vocals (growls) are DEEP. The music is hard, brutal and fast. If you like BDM this is a band you should check out. The cd is an import so it will cost you $$$.
I gave it four stars and not five because after a listen of the record I find myself changing the cd instead of letting it play one more time.
But still, a great brutal album.
