Gameplay Details

Regain System

When you take damage from enemies, counter-attack the enemy within a certain period of time to regain some of your lost HP. The damage taken initially turns orange, indicating you can earn it back if you are quick enough. Hesitate too long and you’ll lose that health for good.

Offensive Parry

Bloodborne encourages characters to say on the offensive, using an equipped firearm as a staggering tool. By unloading a shot right before the enemy's attack lands, the tables are instantly turned, leaving them staggered and open to a devastating Visceral Attack.

Messengers

These small creatures have crept out of a nightmare, and while they may not look too friendly, they accompany hunters, follow their orders, and take care of messages left for others.

Traps

Both a grave and a place of slumber, these dungeons are not a place where visitors are welcomed. Those who venture here quickly find this out thanks to the many fatal traps hidden throughout the tunnels and halls, such as these guillotine blades covered in the blood of unsuspecting Hunters.

Ok. I did not get this when it first came out. Why? Because while i like challenging games, i do not like a game that just keeps on punishing you and kills you just because you can. I have played and beat dark souls 1 and 2. And while i will say they are well done games. I really did not enjoy having my butt handed to me on a regular basis. Which us why i didnt get bloodbourne. Then i found it for 20 bucks. So i figured "what the hell". I seriously thought i blew away 20 bucks and that i would never finidh the game. Well damn. I was wrong. Way wrong. This game was awesome. Yes its hard. Yes i died. Alot. But it was one hell of a ride. Yes. It has alot of the dark souls ideas in it. But the combat it alot faster pace than the lumbering dark souls pace. In all honesty, it felt alot more like ninja gaiden a few years back than it did dark souls. I do reccomend this game alot. It was very well done. Challenging as hell. But fun and its def not impossible. But i will reccomend one thing. When playing the game? Remember "google is your friend". Most games i dont like going online for answers or guidance. But bloodbourne is the exception. Ha. I actually watch online a guy streaming his gameplay, just so i had an idea what kinda playstyle i should use. And it helped. Alot

This game is not your grandma's third-person shooter. Expect for the first two hours of gameplay to be stuck on the first few areas you're given access to. Expect to die a lot, and expect to lose a lot of the Blood Echoes you collect.

My advice to you is this: approach the beginning of this game with a zen-like mentality. Don't worry about the lost Blood Echoes or lost progress. Take it as an opportunity to learn the controls, to learn strategies, and get better. You just have to remember: the Blood Echoes are meaningless. Analyze what you did wrong and try again. This game won't hold your hand but it also won't kick you while you're down, either - you can do it. The game WILL reward you for your patience if you stick with it.

The overall flow and theme of this game seems more like Demon's Souls than Dark Souls. Limited "archstones" to warp to, segregated areas, and so on. If you are a fan of Ninja Gaiden, Monster Hunter, and Dark Souls, you will like this game, once you finally get used to not having a shield and the speed the game expects you to play at.

Whether you're buying this game for yourself or as a gift for someone else, there are some things to consider very carefully so you don't end up disappointed. This game is meant for a certain type of person. Bloodborne is not a game that will give you a tutorial or tell you where to go, and it will never hold your hand through any fights. When you die, you lose all your Blood Echos (currency used to level up and buy items) and the only way to retrieve them is to fight and kill the monster that killed you. The system is based on vengeance and learning from your mistakes. However, you only get one shot at vengeance and then the Blood Echos are gone forever and you must start collecting them again. This game is very difficult, and sometimes seems cruel and unmerciful to the player, but even someone like myself who has never played any of the previous games in the series was able to adapt to it and become pretty decent.

So, who is this game for?
1. Someone who is patient and is able to learn from their mistakes
2. Someone who will not give up on a game because they can't get past a certain part
3. Anyone who can enjoy the challenge of mastering controls (because there are no easy ways out, you MUST learn and master your weapon)

Who is this game NOT for?
1. Players who can't get into a game if there is no tutorial or clear direction where to go
2. Someone who expects the game to adjust its difficulty level to make it easy for you if you repeatedly fail a part
3. Anyone who is easily frightened or startled (the game advertises itself as a nightmare, and it ain't lying. Also, jumpscares).

Unlike other games, Bloodborne does not allow you to pick a difficulty setting.

What a GAME! Amazing graphics, entertaining and mysterious storyline, HOURS of gameplay and difficult enough to keep you interested for hours at a time. This game takes the title of my favorite game of the year - its challenging, keeps you on the edge of your seat and engrosses you in its world from the moment you start. This game is not for the faint of heart - some of the jump scares have had me grabbing for a pillow to hide behind after a gruesome death, while some creatures will leave you with mouth hanging open in disgust from their ghastly (but amazing) design.

The game is an RPG where you level as you progress. Sometimes you'll find a need to grind a particular area while you level up your character or save for a new weapon or armor set (you lose the main currency every time you die). I spent about 8 hours playing the first "zone", including re-doing the first portion of the zone until I beat the first boss about 30x. Not once did I get bored or lose interest - which is amazing considering I have very little patience.

If you like a challenge and aren't faint of heart, give this game a try. You won't regret it.
