Bob Books Set 1- Beginning Readers: Box Set
My son apparantly had problems learning the alphabet at school and his teacher said that he seemed "slightly dyslexic". I have spent time with my child and I refused to believe what she said, I looked around for books that started with simple words and small sentences and gave the child a sense of achievement. I found my answer with these amazing books. These books focus on giving meaning to each sound with small words and sentences, gradually building the child's confidence to tackle longer sentences and then bigger words. I realized that my son is as good as any other child in his class, he just didn't like writing, he loves reading these books as he feels this is something that he can do by himself. I would strongly recommend these books to parents who want their children to start reading and have fun with it.

The art is a huge turn-off but I had heard good things about BOB and decided to give it a try. My 5 year old grasped the concept of the books immediately and started reading basic words, almost overnight. I've never seen anything like it. He devoured the whole set and built a foundation for reading that I don't think I could have developed for him on my own.

Update: My son just finished Moby Dick at 8 years old! I will always credit BOB Books for giving him the proper foundation to develop his reading skills.

Bought this boxset for my 4 year old who is just beginning to read. It is perfect as every word is just 3 letters. I found it frustrating with many other books that claim they are for beginner reads and contain 4 and 5 letter words. With my help, my son can read every word in these books. I will probably buy the other sets as well.

I have a four-year-old that's known the alphabet and which letter makes which sound for two years, but I was unable to make him sit and sound out words until I got the Bob books. The stories aren't deep and moving, but what can you do using only three letter words? It would be nice if it were illustrated more, but maybe it would detract from the words. Anyhow, it got my kid reading a bit just as I was hoping and helped build confidence in his ability sound out words on his own.

In love!!! My 4 year old is 20% done his reading lessons from Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons (highly recommend, check out the reviews!) and can already read the first two Bob books of this set with ease! This Bob set goes along well with the first few lessons of TYCTR as it only uses the same letter sounds as we have learned so far. After tonight's lesson, he will likely be able to read the third book! They are short, silly and just enough to make your child feel accomplished after reading their (possibly, first) whole book. The start with just a few letter sounds and slowly build on and use more letters. Our reading lessons use orthography (using the alphabet along with symbols) and my son has had no problem transitioning from orthographic reading to normal spelling. My son now loves to tell people he can read books! The illustrations go along with exactly what they're reading, making it so the child doesn't just read the word but will comprehend what they are reading as well, making it more enjoyable and easier to understand what words are being read. I bought Set 2 at the same time and am so glad I did; I can't wait to get more! Another positive, I never thought of before purchasing, is the size of the books. They are a perfect size for travelling or keeping in my purse so he can read if we are out and need to kill some time (say, waiting at dentist or doctors office). The box is also handy to keep all 10 books in, as I'm sure they wouldn't stay a set for long without a designated box. It is most definitely worth the regular price, but the Amazon price along with free shipping over $25 purchase made this an even better purchase!

These books were decodable, but I found the language structure was really awkward. Some of the sentences didn't make sense (e.g. The bag had a dog), and the stories didn't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Overall, they seemed dense and hard to read.

Even though this book is recommended for ages 4 plus, my 3 1/2 year old loves these books. It has really made him want to learn about letters and how they can make words. Teaching him to read with these books was a breeze. Worth the money for sure.

4 year old DD was super excited to read and finish the first book. She loves the idea that now she has graduated and can read the next book.
I love the fact that the books do not have big, long and complicated words that could disccourage a beginner reader. So many level 1 books have words over 5 letters in length.
Some people complained in their reviews that the pictures were basic. It was not an issue to us.
Some people complained that the storylines are boring, ha! Most beginner readers are pretty tame and these are no different. It's more about the fact that she is happy that she achieved something by reading the book on her own.
