Product Description

Prudence Hartley has the usual single mom problems: getting her kids to school on time; juggling a gazillion errands while trying to get a full day’s work done; oh, and don’t forget about dinner.

But Pru’s problems become a tad more complicated and a lot more dangerous when she finds a dead man in her house. Or a dead spy to be exact. Suddenly, a federal agent named David Merrick shows up and whisks her and her kids into protective custody. Pru has so many questions spinning through her brain she doesn’t know where to begin. How is she going to keep her kids safe? What was the dead spy looking for in her house? Why are the spies after her? Oh, and there’s one more question . . . just a pesky, minor thing. Why does Merrick have to be so damn sexy and protective?

A BODYGUARD TO REMEMBER is a great read for anyone looking for a strong, independent protagonist, suspense, humour, a touch of romance, and more twists than you can imagine. I found I had to keep turning the pages to find out what Pru was going to do next after she found the dead body in her living room and her uneventful life changed forever. The characters are all skillfully drawn and, even after the motive is revealed, the “whodunit” was truly a surprise to me. Oh, and there are LOTS of men in uniform, and a few women, too. I look forward to the next Book in the Men in Uniform series.

I went completely on recommendations of two authors whose work I enjoy to pick this book up. It was a fun, light read, but unlike some of the novels of this type, it was smart. I actually got caught up in the "Who Did It? Who Will She Choose?" This book came to me during a stressful time, and in the evening I would read, erasing some of the day. An excellent adventure by Ms. Bruce.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters have a lot of depth, as do their relationships.

Although Pru finds herself in quite a bit of trouble, we know she will power through! There is no question Pru loves her children, which is nice to see.

I hope there is a sequel!

HASH(0x9bb649c0) out of 5 stars The blurb for the book made it sound something like a romance Feb. 26 2016
By WLN - Published on Amazon.com

Ok, this would not usually be a must read for me. The blurb for the book made it sound something like a romance. I don’t usually do romance-just ask my wife of 35 years. However, I read the first sentence in the preview on Kindle Nation Daily–and then had to keep reading. At the end of the preview, I was ‘hooked’ and did not want to be ‘released’. (I’m not sure where that fishing metaphor came from but it is descriptive so I’ll leave it!) The single mother with two great kids gets caught up in something entirely beyond her reality base and somehow finds an inner strength which surprises her kids, her Ex., herself, and those who are trying to keep everyone alive plus catch the bad guys. There is murder, espionage, a richly drawn cast of characters, and (Oh NO!) a little romance also. OK- OK, the romance part is well done and interestingly developed. The book is well written although I thought a couple of the plot twists seemed a bit thin. This did not detract from my enjoyment and I was more than willing to purview the Authors page to try another one. I will let you know how that goes but meanwhile grab a copy of A Bodyguard to Remember and enjoy.

HASH(0x9bacbf84) out of 5 stars Her sense of humour and good moral compass are a delight Jan. 12 2015

A Bodyguard to Remember starts with a bang. Dead body on the floor and a protagonist who is very much alive with humour and warmth. From the beginning, I was hooked on Pru. Her sense of humour and good moral compass are a delight. But dead bodies bring the police, and there is a mystery to be solved. Who killed the stranger? And why leave the body in Pru's living room? Not only is she a suspect, but her own life could be at stake. I won't give away the plot, but what happens next is classic romantic suspense.

Let me state how refreshing it is to have a heroine who is into her thirties and who actually has children. Bruce handles this deftly; the children provide believable motivation for a lot of Pru's actions. We admire her even more because of how she manages to deal with the angst of protecting her children instead of just herself.

A Bodyguard to Remember is the best type of romance book; lots happens, more than just love is at stake, and you don't know who Pru will end up with until the very end. This is a fun read, and Alison Bruce is a talented storyteller. My kind of book. Five stars.

HASH(0x9bace018) out of 5 stars Definitely worth it! Jan. 8 2015

A single mom named Pru finds a dead body in her house and then everything gets turned upside down. Well, yours would too if you found a dead body in your house. Cops start asking her questions, and then special agents show up and take Pru and her kids "off the grid" to protect them. Because that wasn't just an ordinary dead body. Nope. That was a dead spy body. I loved a lot about this book but I adored Pru, who has so much love in her that everyone she meets automatically becomes family. Including the agents! She's also very funny, which is important when you're trying not to get killed. And agent Merrick is - well - big sigh. Strong, stoic, handsome, and always there when Pru needs him. A Bodyguard to Remember is a keeper.

HASH(0xa07019e4) out of 5 stars This was a entertaining contemporary romantic suspense that combined mystery and geeky references that will be a delight to fans June 21 2015

"A Bodyguard to Remember" by Alison Bruce is the first in her ‘Men in Uniform’ series and features a single mother of twins named Prudence Hartley who gets embroiled in a murder investigation that turns her life topsy-turvy and brings her to the attention of RCMP Detective Sergeant Merrick and his team. Keeping Prudence safe during the investigation gets more and more challenging and it becomes virtually impossible to determine who is out to harm her, but an extended surveillance and protection detail not only complicates her life but also threatens to disrupt it permanently.

This was a entertaining contemporary romantic suspense that combined mystery and geeky references that will be a delight to fans of Star Trek and its offshoots. The action builds in fits and starts and there is a preponderance of men in uniform who seem to insert themselves into the heroine’s life and then become oddly possessive of her. For me, the story went on a little long, but I think there are great twists and turns with unexpected scenarios. The imagery of various locations in Canada and the glimpses of branches of law enforcement provide a nice novelty for me and I enjoyed the wry humor and interweaving of a writer’s life into the tale. This is the beginning of the series, which may be the reason some threads were not tied off as neatly as I would have liked but I enjoyed the author’s style and will be interested in seeing what other tales add to the series.
