Product Description

Let it begin! Get ready for the most totally awesome adventure ever as Bolt, the coolest action hero on Earth, and me, Rhino, his faithful partner and right-hand hamster, set off on a super secret mission! As one half of the Dynamic Duo, I'll let you in on the action. One day I'm watching Bolt on TV, and the next thing I know I'm working alongside my all-time favorite hero in stealth mode! We have to make it all the way from New York City to Hollywood to defeat the forces of evil and save the lovely Miss Penny from ultimate peril. But don't worry -- armed with Bolt's "Super-Bark" and my rolling ball of thunder, we're ready for anything. You won't believe the high-flying, death-defying stunts we have to pull off along the way. Watch us in action as we unleash the power. It's awesome. No, it's beyond awesome. It's BE-awesome! There's danger at every turn, but with Bolt at my side, I fear nothing. I FEEL ALIVE!

Bolt is a funny animated film about a dog who thinks he has superpowers. It is also a movie about friendship, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself. Everyone knows that superheroes on television are not real, but super-dog Bolt (John Travolta) is a canine star who has been carefully raised to believe that he really possesses superpowers. Bolt is completely devoted to his human co-star Penny (Miley Cyrus), so when Penny is captured by the evil Dr. Calico (Malcolm McDowell) in their latest television episode and then Bolt accidentally gets loose in the real world, Bolt sets off on a journey to save her. Bolt is confounded when his super powers are suddenly ineffective, but inspiration strikes and Bolt quickly discovers the mysterious, power-stealing effects of Styrofoam packing peanuts. An encounter with alley cat Mittens (Susie Essman) gives Bolt some eye-opening lessons about being a real dog in the real world, while star-struck, ball-enclosed hamster Rhino (Mark Walton) revels in the opportunity to serve as Bolt's sidekick in the quest to rescue Penny. The trio traverses the United States from waffle house to waffle house on a hysterical quest to find Penny and prove that the relationship between Penny and Bolt is real. In the end, Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino learn that everyone is special in their own way and they discover the true power of believing in oneself and one's friends. Select theaters showed Bolt in Real-D 3-D which features some nice effects, but the film is probably equally enjoyable in the traditional format. A fun film with a nice message and a huge dose of cute, Bolt is good entertainment for the entire family. --Tami Horiuchi

Frankly, I did not know what to expect when I took three grandchildren to see this film immediately after it arrived in Dallas months ago. We saw it at an IMAX theater in 3-D, an experience that reminded me of a time when (at their age) I was startled when Vincent Price began to hit a rubber ball with a wooden paddle at me and others in the audience at the Shore theatre in Chicago. This time around, I was soon unaware of the paper glasses and concentrated on an especially clever plot. Briefly, Bolt (voice of John Travolta) has become a celebrity dog because of his appearances on a television show during which (through special effects) he demonstrates super-canine powers when opposing evil forces in various forms, especially those that threaten his beloved owner, Penny (voice of Miley Cyrus). Bolt is convinced that he indeed possesses these powers. After all, he can "see" himself in action on film. And then, for reasons best revealed during a screening, Bolt and Penny are separated (a recurrent theme in most of Disney's feature animated films) and he must overcome all manner of obstacles to become reunited with her, another familiar Disney theme.

Of course, he collects some eccentric but likeable companions along the way.
I was especially impressed by the co-directors Byron Howard and Chris Williams keep the plot moving along at a lively pace and credit the screenplay's co-writers, Dan Fogelman (also the voice of Billy) and Chris Williams (another voice) with producing consistently entertaining dialog. It's always fun to try to recognize the voices provided to animated characters. Other than those of other than Travolta and Cyrus, the only other significant voices I recognized were James Lipton's as The Director and Malcolm McDowell's as Dr. Calico.

I had never even heard of this movie before I bought it, and it is no doubt one of the best (maybe THE BEST) kid's movie we've seen. What a great surprise! We love dogs at our house, so I thought we might like this movie. We LOVE it! It is a fun movie for all ages. My son is 2 and he loves it, I am 42 and I love it, and Grandma is 72 and she loves it too. So many funny lines and lots of action. Rhino (the hamster) is hilarious. My son gets a lot of exercise when this movie is on because he runs laps laughing through our house yelling "I'm RHINO!" trying to keep up with Bolt and Rhino and Mittens.

I hadn't even heard of this film when it first came out but discovered it only a couple of years ago and my family and I love it. For animated super-hero-themed films, Pixar has the Incredibles, DreamWorks has Megamind, and Disney has Big Hero 6 ... and Bolt, which puts a clever spin on the genre by having the dog only think he's super (not a spoiler since it was in all the trailers and was the movie's selling point).

There's great animation in this film and several really touching scenes. The only weakness this movie has is in it's choice of principal voice actors, John Travolta and Miley Cyrus. With better actors in the lead roles this movie could have, should have been so much bigger. (Can you imagine how awesome it would have been with Kurt Russell as Bolt, Goldie Hawn as Mittens, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Penny?) But the supporting cast is great, and writer Mark Walton as Rhino the hamster steals the best lines and moments. This movie is also a biting satire of the film industry, with its soulless agents (Greg Germann is hilarious) and criticism of how Hollywood is so desperate for ideas that they would even accept scripts written by pigeons!

Top Five animated super-hero films:

1. The Incredibles
2. Megamind
3. Big Hero 6
4. Bolt

A wonderful movie about Bolt (John Travoltas voice is just perfect!) - a dog who is devoted to his "person" Penny . Bolt is a dog in a TV series who has never been off the set and thinks his series is real life. Bolt becomes separated from Penny (loveable with Miley Cyrus' voice) during a filming mishap and he believes she is truly in danger - and he becomes lost. This begins his cross country search to get back to his "person" Penny. Bolt drags a cat named Mittens - who truly has a heart of gold - along for the ride. Rhino - an adorable hamster in a ball who has watched Bolt on TV and believes there is nothing Bolt can't do, signs up to come along. He has a few awesome tricks of his own! The pigeons who appear in several parts of the movie are hilarious. Dont forget to watch the "Super Rhino" bonus - Rhino is a scene stealer! The comedy is appropriate for all ages and as an adult I chuckled often! The journey is heartwarming and the lesson that love, friends and family is what really matters will appeal to all ages. Worth having in your collection!
