HASH(0xa312bfc0) out of 5 stars ATTACK OF THE FAR OUT CREATURES April 18 2011

In the mood for some 60s inspired monster mania? Looking for more than your standard tales of vampires and werewolves? If so, then step inside the world of Boris Karloff's Tales of Mystery Volume 5 and you won't be disappointed. Herein you will find an assortment of weird denizens of the supernatural: electric mind monsters, gelatinous blobs, space beasts, sea dragons, and giant insects. All good fun and none to be taken too seriously, of course, although Boris will always leave you with a final warning that these horrors could be lurking out there in the shadows waiting just for you!

As with the first four volumes, this edition is well produced with bright colors and crisp artwork. The minor blemishes of the occasional blurred text and the missing second showing of the comic covers minus text at the end of each issue (which were featured in previous volumes) can be forgiven. These comics have been out-of-print for years and are a rare opportunity for those of us who never knew them in their original release to now experience them at an affordable price.

There's a nice but brief Foreward by actor Christopher Lee paying homage to his friend, Boris. This volume features eight issues. Many of the stories are quite long, giving the writers and artists plenty of elbow room to tell their stories. The last one is my favorite. You gotta love those far-out zombies, man!

HASH(0xa35fa0cc) out of 5 stars the best so far April 10 2011

I have purchased all of the series so far and I think #5 is the best of the bunch. I love them all, but this one the stories seem to be a little better. The reproduction and artwork are Great. Dark Horse is doing a masterful job of representing this ( and other) old semi-forgotten series.
