A fun romantic comedy and a classic beach romance!

THE BORROWED BOYFRIEND
From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author GINNY BAIRD, a heartfelt and hilarious tale about two lost souls finding their way to each other.

Allison Murphy spends a week in March with the same group of girlfriends each year. What started as a college spring break tradition morphed into an annual reunion, ultimately encompassing boyfriends and husbands. Only Allison hasn't brought along a love interest in years, inspiring the others toward goodwill efforts at fixing her up. Faced with the prospect of yet another beach week mismatched with a virtual stranger, Allison's roommate Kate suggests a shocking alternative. Allison can "borrow" Kate's handsome and successful boyfriend for the trip. The trouble is Grady O'Brien stands for everything romantic idealist Allison is against. He's a ruthless businessman who will stop at nothing to get ahead. What Allison doesn't understand is just how far Grady is willing to go...

Wine industry entrepreneur Grady O'Brien knows an opportunity when he sees one. Allison Murphy runs a boutique wine label design company, while Grady heads up a firm that buys those sorts of businesses out. When Grady's girlfriend unexpectedly must attend a conference and their vacation plans are cancelled, she encourages Grady to accompany Allison to the beach instead. Grady agrees to participate in the ruse of playing Allison's boyfriend with a secret agenda in mind. He hopes to pave the way for acquiring Allison's Bella Fortuna Wine Designs by winning favor with its pretty owner and her friends. The one thing Grady doesn't count on losing in the bargain is his heart.

I received a copy for an honest review. Allison is tired of having her friends finding a date for her. They meet in a different location each year to have fun and catch up with each other's lives. Her roommate, Kate, offers her boyfriend to be her companion for the week. As Grady pretends to listen to his music, he hears all the negative things Kate has to say about him. The town they live in has more women than men and Kate saves him from all of them. Finally, Allison agrees and the trip to this year's location goes well. Will they be able to keep their story straight and convince her friends that she and Grady are a couple? Will Grady's company make Allison dislike him even more?

I found this to be a very well written, sweet romance with an engaging storyline and a cast of delightful characters that I thoroughly enjoyed spending an afternoon with. Ginny Baird's vivid description of the beautiful New England scenery, and a sumptuous waterfront dream home, transported me there standing amidst the characters and taking part in their fun anniversary week of reunion activities. I especially enjoyed the romance between Allison and Grady and the emotional connection between them which, for me, is essential to a memorable reading experience. I received a free copy of this book in exchange rate my honest review.

Note: I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review.

Having read most of this author's works, I can honestly say that she is growing as a writer. This story has great depth, character development, and believable plotline.

Allison Murphy is tired of her well meaning friends trying to set her up with a man each year when they meet for a week vacation together. When her roommate, Kate, suggests her boyfriend, Grady, as a stand-in "boyfriend," she's shocked. Who would suggest such a thing and who would actually agree to it?

Grady O'Brien can't believe what his girlfriend, Kate, just suggested. A fake boyfriend for a week? However, he figures that he can take advantage of the time with Allison to win her over to his idea of an agreement between his wine company and her wine label company.

What neither expected was their reaction to each other. However, what's going to happen when Allison learns of Grady's original plans regarding her company? Will love conquer all or was it all a ruse from the get go?

Did I like the story? Yes, I did.

I appreciated fully fleshed out characters. I understood Allison and her fears. She had some prejudice and emotional baggage to overcome, but I appreciated her maturity and willingness to grow as a person. I also understood Grady and his point of view. He's a businessman who sees a potentially good business deal and, why not go after it? And, when real emotions got tangled in the mix, I appreciated their mature reaction. They weren't like some hormonal teenager, they actually acted like adults. It was refreshing to read.

I also felt like I got to know the secondary characters. They're an eclectic mix and bring to the story a fun exchange.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Love March 11 2016
By Joan Mueller - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The Borrowed Boyfriend by Ginny Baird
An engaging, dynamic read that will keep you on your toes with the various relationship twists and turns. The beginning premise that two people of the opposite sex can keep to a platonic pact while pretending to be in a romantic relationship had this reader shaking her head and talking to herself as the plot unfolded. Further drama occurred when the characters realized that there was a spark between them, but are unsure if it is a love that can survive adversity. This story provided insight into the bonds between friends and the development of relationships. Love, friendship, and relationships are all basic stepping stones for life experiences translating into the development of well-rounded personalities in individuals. I loved the characters and their approach to life and love. Each character had a different relationship perspective making the plot rich with dialog and allowing the reader to easily connect. I received an ARC for review. I would highly recommend this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Love March 12 2016

Allison isn't looking forward to her getaway with her girlfriends and their partners. They are constantly trying to fix her up. She doesn't want to be the object of their pity. Her roommate, Kate, has a plan. Allison can borrow her boyfriend, Grady. What could possibly go wrong? Let me count the ways. The fact that Allison doesn't like him shouldn't be a problem. Right? What's In it for Kate? I enjoyed this romantic tale about finding love where you least expect it. Allison and Grady have great chemistry. I liked watching them get to know and like each other. Allison realizes that Grady has a good heart. His thoughtfulness is touching, but his business plan is off base. I wanted them to be a couple. However, the road to love doesn't run smooth. I was hooked. The beach in Maine was perfect. I just didn't expect the snow. Ginny Baird wrote a happy ever after story that left me smiling.
I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Opposites Attract March 8 2016
By Cashmere - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Allison has a tradition of spending a week with her college friends each year. And over the years love interests for the other girls have become part of the holiday. Only trouble is that now they have all settled down with their love lives and Allison is the only one who has never brought a boy along. So they match make for her with disastrous results. When she shares her troubles with her current room mate Kate, she is shocked when Kate offers her own boyfriend Grady O'Brien as a substitute fake boyfriend to see her through the week.
Grady knows things have reached the near end with Kate and the final straw is when she volunteers his company out to Allison. That girl may be an artist but she's a mess. Nothing close to as organized or coordinated as he is. But its the artist that he needs to win over for a business project and so he figures its not a bad idea to do her this favour. They both start the week with trepidation and plenty of misgivings, but as the story plays out it becomes obvious that they both care for each other a lot more than they should.
Being the honest and straight people they are, they stay away from the attraction that they feel towards each other. At least as much as they can. Then Allison discovers Grady's ulterior motive and throw him out. Will the two of them manage to get past all the misunderstandings and obstacles that seem to stand in their way? Find out when you read the book. I received an ARC for an honest opinion.
I truly did enjoy reading the story. Although you feel you know what will happen given the popular theme, the author manages to put in a couple of good twists in the tale. Its a fun, light read perfect for a lazy weekend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Borrowed Suprise March 9 2016

Ginny Baird brings us a wonderful romance interlaced with humor. We are introduced to Allison Murphy and Grady O'Brien. Allison is the owner or Bella Fortuna Wine Designs and needs a vacation more than ever. The numbers aren't adding up at her business and she is about to make some tough decisions whether she likes it or not. Of course the annual week vacation she spends in Maine with her college friends is coming up. You would think she would be excited, but you would be wrong. This trip, though fun and exciting, always brings a lot of stress. You see her friends all have significant others, but not Allison who they are determined to fix up. Of course for all their good intentions it just makes her feel more of a loser. This year her roommate, Kate, has the perfect idea. Allison could just take Kate's boyfriend, Grady, and pass him off as hers. Allison is completely against this idea at first, but is finally talked into it. Grady is a wine industry entrepreneur who would like to talk to Allison about buying her company out. What better way to get to not only talk to her, but help her out so maybe she would be willing to help him.
This is a sweet story about romance, love and forgiveness. The plot includes romantic tension and engaging characters that keep the reader turning the pages. This is a feel, good romance that is very entertaining.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance.
I received this book from the author for a honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
