From the Manufacturer

The New and Innovative GCM12SD Glide Miter Saw delivers durable precision, compact workspace, and unmatched smoothness of cut! This saw features the Axial-Glide system which operates by folding the articulated arm flush with the back of the saw, saving up to 12-Inch of workspace versus a traditional sliding compound miter saw and enabling the saw to be operated with almost no clearance behind it; ideal for jobsites and cramped workshops.

My excitement of cutting my first piece of stock on my new saw that I had just calibrated, quickly turned to disappointment when I placed the stock on saw and pushed down on it only to have it tilt up over the rotating table. Upon investigation I found that the rotating table was higher than the base and could not find any instruction in manual the adjust or correct this problem. This tilting or titter totter of stock when held or clamped down to base rendered this saw useless for finish work. I then contacted Bosch service representative who said there was no fix for this problem as it was part of the casting and when I gave him the specifics of my situation which I had measured with feeler gauges and his initial response after a brief period on hold was that the difference in elevation between Table and Base was within spec. My response to him was "no sir, there can be no difference in elevation of these surfaces, they must be co-planar in order to use this saw for finish work", after a little more discussion he relented and said to return the saw. Before returning saw I decided to travel around to local hardware stores to check same model saw GCM12SD that these hardware stores have on display, only to find that 2 out of 3 have the same problem. Now being on a mission, I decided to check several other different makes and models of miter saws on display and did not find this problem on any that I checked. A simple quality control check at the manufacturing facility would ensure these faulty units do not get released for sale. After seeing 3 out of 4 of GCM12SD model saw with this flaw, my problem now is I have little confidence that I would get a unit without this flaw if I reorder, so I will have to dismiss this model saw.

Returning the saw comes with its own headaches.

I have 3 10" Makta double sliders, very accurate now but needed some adjustments, but wanted a 12" that didn't take up so much space. I should mention that I use dial indicators, precision straight edges and squares when setting up my tools so you can judge my comments accordingly. Blade that comes with GCM12SD is worthless for a decent cut, replaced with a Freud LU88R012 which is not quite as good as the blades that came with the Makta. Bottom line this saw is not for accurate cabinet work but for building decks and framing would be fine. The blade is out of align with travel by 0.025" in 6.75", which can't be fixed, and you can see the slight discrepancy ridge left on the cut where you stop. The cut on a wide board is slightly concave or convex depending on what side you cut on. The rotating table nut was tightened down too much and flexed table causing a slightly lower center but when nut was loosened came back to nearly flat. The rotating table was higher than the fixed flat on each side of table and haven't yet disassembled to see if there is a way to correct. The fences were not in alignment with each other and fence on one side was not quite square with table, but some careful shimming fixed those problems. As generally reported the dust collection is poor even with a vacuum attached. I knew from previous ratings about the torque kick when starting, the dust collection and the weight and quickly adjusted to these. I would have loved to have had all the good features and expecially the close to wall space saving feature, but unfortunately the execution of the arm concept was lacking in precision and there is nothing a purchaser can do to correct that problem.
Thinking about returning saw but expect another will have similar flaws and so will probably place this in jobs not requiring precision and make room for a 12" makita or go back to my old 10" Makta. Finally the Bosch T4B Gravity-Rise Miter Saw Stand - great.

Assembly was straight forward. Accuracy out of the box was excellent with no additional tweaks required. The articulating arm is a huge benefit in a small shop space. The only draw back is the weight but it is some thing I can live with.

Accurate out of the box. Start interlock hard to operate for us weaker folk. I have defeated the interlock with a short piece of 1/4" dowel. There is a significant kick on the handle at start up unless you start the motor in the full up position. Other than these two observations the saw is a winner.

Is it weird to say, I love my saw!?
Great saw! Smooth action & nice that I don't have to pull it away from the wall every time I just want to do a quick cut.
Thanks Amazon. Easy purchase and fast delivery!

This is the second of this Model I have owned, so that said I love the saw. I wouldn't have bought a second if I didn't. My problem is this is the first Bosch mitresaw I've owned (4 now) that needed set up out of the box. My past 3 saws where all perfect straight from the box. This one that I ordered through Amazon needed to be set up in all directions. Not a single direction it can be moved/adjusted was accurate. It wasn't off just a bit, it was a lot. All that said, after I spent about an hour carefully truing the saw, it works and cuts beautifully. Still would buy another if I needed, just maybe not from Amazon.

Absolutely love this saw, accurate right out of the box and did not need any calibration! The glide is incredibly smooth and I hope lasts longer then the sliders on my Dewalt?(From what I hear it does)
The weight is not an issue as I also purchased theT4B Gravity Rise stand that I leave the saw attached and just wheel it from job to job with absolutely no trouble!!! A true 5* stand, highly recommend it!
