My initial impressions is this is a fine DIY jigsaw and is likely very good for that type of buyer. It seems well put together, although I only used it for a very short period of time so I did not get to test it fully. Sadly, the blade change mechanism on my unit failed (it came apart) on the first blade change. It appears an O-clip was improperly installed at the factory. Since it was outside Amazon's return period (30 days), I had it repaired under warranty by a local Bosch Service Center. It's working fine now.
The JS470e is a new model from Bosch, and sadly it is not the equal of the older 159x series. I personally own the 1591 (barrel grip version), and it's worked flawlessly for years. Many Bosch retailers advertise the JS470E as the 1590/1591 replacement, but it lacks a few key features including the precision cut system, tool-less footplate adjustment, and the one touch blade change system. The JS470e blade change system requires you to hold the tool and operate the release with one hand (lining the slots up) while you install the blade. On the 159x, you simply insert the blade till it clicks. Much easier.
If you are professional and are looking to buy new or replace your older Bosch jig saw, I would recommend waiting for the new JS572 (announced in Nov 2012). This model seems much more comparable to the venerable 159x series. Alternatively, the 1591 (barrel grip) model is still available. The D handle 1590 is much harder to come by as it's discontinued, but there is still some stock out there.
Update: I have since sold the JS470e and purchased one of the last remaining 1590EVSL models from a local retailer.
