Product Description

Review

Winter is a confident and engaging stylist, and her treatment of the material is kind and empathetic… For the many readers who admired Annabel and want to get to know its author better, Boundless is a tremendous gift. (Quill & Quire 2014-10-01)

Winter writes lyrically and compellingly. (Marcia Kaye Toronto Star 2014-09-21)

[Winter’s] transcendent pen, infused with starry wonder, never loses its dreamy, emotional pull. (Kimberly Bourgeois Montreal Review of Books 2014-11-01)

This talent has no limit…a beautiful, thrilling ride. (Susan G. Cole NOW Magazine 2015-02-05)

Her keen novelist’s eye brings immediacy and vibrancy to many of the encounters…fresh and enjoyable. (Alexander Larman The Guardian 2015-02-08)

[Boundless] is a deep book, meditative and thoughtful, but it is also compulsively readable, driven by an inexorable narrative drive and its keen attention to humanity in all its manifold complexities. It is the sort of book one will finish and return to. (Robert J. Wiersema Globe and Mail 2014-09-05)

Compulsively readable . . . it both heightens life and plumbs its deepest mysteries, laying bare the beauty of both the world and the soul. (Robert J Wiersema The Globe and Mail 2014-09-05)

It’s an impressive book, one which belongs alongside the best of writers like Dillard and Terry Tempest Williams, writers who so root their work in themselves and the natural world that the work itself becomes transcendent. (Robert J. Wiersema The Globe and Mail 2014-09-05)

Winter’s personal reflections on marriage, family, and past relationships, combined with her poetic observations of the Northern geography and people, breathe new energy into the traditional travelogue format . (Quill & Quire 2014-10-01)

graceful, poetic and shimmering prose. (Marcia Kaye Toronto Star 2014-11-17)

For the many readers who admired Annabel and want to get to know its author better, Boundless is a tremendous gift. (Angie Abdou Quill & Quire 2014-11-17)

Beautifully written. I am enjoying the metaphor of the story, as Kathleen traces this voyage, while discovering more about herself.

HASH(0xa1484d68) out of 5 stars A Gifted Writer March 19 2015
By Gillian Andrews - Published on Amazon.com

I'm surprised that no-one has reviewed this book so far. It is a beautifully written account of Kathleen Winter's trip to the Northwest Passage. As she writes about her travels she seamlessly spirals into memories of her life. She is a writer who sees the world differently than most and it is evident in her writing. She brings the landscape to life. It is a living and breathing entity that changes her. Even after she returns home the impact of her trip is still strongly felt. It is a reminder to us all about the importance of connecting with the land in a personal way and letting it speak to us. She has a gift for expressing her feelings in writing. Well worth reading.
HASH(0xa1484fb4) out of 5 stars Like Kathleen, I love the land March 11 2016

Like Kathleen, I love the land. I love mountains, dirt, rocks, beaches--trails into nowhere. The love of my life was backpacking and being close to the earth, the awe of being alone in magnificent natural places. I have travelled extensively a have an unfulfilled wish to go to Greenland. But I found the writer's prose pretentious and overdone. I read a couple of books a week of eclectic genres and I couldn't finish this one. Perhaps I missed something significant by not reading til the end, but I am too rooted to the lovely ground to appreciate an author with her head in the clouds.

HASH(0xa1485210) out of 5 stars Beautiful writing Oct. 25 2015

The writer writes beautifully and lyrically about her trip on a cruise in and around Greenland and Baffin Island. I only wish there had been more about the aboriginal stories and peoples
HASH(0xa14853b4) out of 5 stars Lackluster! May 9 2016
By M. C. Meyer - Published on Amazon.com

This Maisie book was a disappointment for me. I started off in India - how she got there from her London home is anyone's guess and it would seem like some years had passed between this adventure and her previous one. No matter, from India she goes to Gibralter and gets herself immersed in a civil war in Spain to distract her from her huge losses (I'll let you read so you can be surprised). Anyhow, the plot wanders and really isn't up to the Winspear standard of writing. If I knew this I would still read it because I like Maisie Dobbs but be prepared for some plodding and wandering.

Great book.very talented author, and a topic I am interested in after having spent 6 months in Thule Greenland many years ago, when communications were difficult and we flew propellor aircraft. The world was a lot bigger then and the Northwest Passage seemed impossible.
