It's quite easy to install too it took me about 15 minutes and you just need a screwdriver, I took the time to check out all the other rod too to make sure they were nice and tight.
I received the two 50-lb power rods in good order but installation took longer than I expected. There were no instructions but upon examination, you have to unscrew three screws from the bottom of the power rod block, uninstalling the block and then popping the caps off where there are two ready slots to place the upgrade. Then sliding each rod into the hole making sure the groove at the end of the rod is aligned with pre-fixed slides in the block, then securing the rod by screwing the provided screw from the bottom. This may require some manual adjustment as the bottom of the power rod is not necessarily manufactured to the size of the screw (for one of them, I had to "prep" the task by manually drilling the pre-set hole to make it bigger. Then re-set the power rod block onto its casing of the Bowflex by securing the three screws at the bottom. It would be better to have two people doing this to avoid the power rod block from teetering onto one's face but it can be done by oneself.
Quality of power rods:
Not sure these were as good as the original. Upon using the new rods the first time, one of the power rods snapped into three parts! This was unheard of. The other power rod held on and appeared to be stiffer than the original 50-lb power rod. So not sure why the quality issue here as I have not seen any comments about snapping power rods. Kind of discouraging after all that work in installing it in the first place.
Amazon customer service:
Customer service has been quick. Upon being advised of the problem, they are now rushing a new replacement order to me within 2 days. I sure hope the second pair works out better than the first!
1: Installation is a pain, this is because you have to remove the power rod block (which is like step 1 in assembly). But it is doable without any other disassembly, just difficult because of the limited working space.
2: These rods will possibly be “different” than your machine. Some reveiwers have noted this. They aren’t actually different, but they’re fresh. Bowflex resistance isn’t an exact science so you shouldn’t expect them to be the same as rods that have been used. Suffice it to say they add the needed power as advertised.
Bottom line though; these come in a bowflex box, they’re genuine and they’re fantastic.
As for the rods themselves, they are the same rods from the factory that they came with. same shiething and hooks and they fit perfect! i checked the tension and they are within 2lbs resistance as the original.
