Product Description

A sexy and emotional Amazon top 10 Bestseller from Ella James, USA Today Bestselling Author

The boy next door. That's what he was. Dash Frasier--my hero from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed everything.

No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so loved. That's why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.

Now I'm older. Wiser. I've just snagged my dream job, writing at a film studio. The lead animator on my project? You guessed it.

He's not the boy next door. Not anymore.

I'm guarding my heart this time.

But Dash has secrets that could break us both.

Amazing, Ella James!! I was so excited for this book and it didn’t disappoint. It’s an emotional journey for both Dash and Amelia. It was a heavy, deeply sensitive and valid story for me, which I wasn’t prepared for. So many feelings; I Loved It!!!

The characters were both hurting from deep down emotionally draining stuff, which came through in the writing. I hurt with them, smiled……and cried with them both joyous and pain filled tears. There were some fun, flirty, and sexy scenes that helped lighten the heavier stuff going on inside them, but for me there was always that tension, hurt and guilt hidden just below the surface.

There are so many moments that stand out for me. When they left the party that scene…..absolutely perfect, breathtaking….beautiful! I also love the roof scenes…I understand Dash’s secrecy, I was really thinking some really bad things and was actually relieved yet saddened to learn the truth. Another pass the tissues moment for me…….and the dove on the balcony. Thanks for that, he needed that and so did I. Graduation…so sweet!! <3

I felt connected to both Amelia and Dash from the beginning. The writing was amazing, the characters strong, well formed, and loveable. It’s an incredible story with a troubling twist that I gladly recommend.

I really loved this book. The writing is flawless and the story is deep, emotional and powerful, but the best thing about this book was the connection between the two main characters and how Ella James poured that into the book and the story.

Dash and Amelia have been neighbours and friends since they were very young. Amelia falls in love with Dash the minute he helps her out the pool as a young child. Three years older than her, he fights his feelings for Amelia when he realises what he feels for her is more than friendship, he wants her, he loves her, but she is too young, so he keeps all his feelings hidden.
Amelia hero worships him, but college is calling for Dash and he leaves Amelia behind nursing a broken heart. She misses him like crazy and the one night he does return doesn't end quite the way Amelia wanted and Dash is gone again. She is left behind with the hurt and anger simmering deep inside of her.

In her last year at college she gets a chance to be an intern at her dream job but is shocked to find she is working with Dash, she hasn't seen him in years and all their feeling come to the surface once again but secrets are being hidden and Dash is holding all the answers but doesn't want to divulge them to Amelia which in turn causes moments of angst, hurt and pain, but we also get to experience the special moments that are actually beautiful and emotionally interacted between the two of them. Ms James has outdone herself with some of the moments of absolute joy. After the party being one of them, the graduation ceremony, the Dove on the balcony. Subtle moments but so wonderfully thought out and written.

Before this, it feels like I haven’t read an Ella book in a long while, which was a shame because I’m a fan of hers. Last one read was Sloth which gave me such a #bookhangover. If I take pause, even now, I can still clearly remember how Sloth made me feel. On that note, I hate to say this but I think that kinda’ tinged how I feel about this one.

I’ll just lay it out there. I think some people will still really enjoy this one, but sadly, not so much for me *sad face*

The 2nd standalone book in the series, it’s, um *reads blurb again*… yes, Dash and Amelia’s 2nd chance story. They grew up together, were friends, but something happened, lost touch, and eventually found out that they’ll be working together.

While I don’t have complaints about Dash and Amelie, individually and together, I had a hard time matching the pace that Ella put these characters through. Just when I think Amelie has decided to pull away, her actions said otherwise. Then it made me question Dash’ actions. He almost became this passive participant. Just when I think Dash has decided to let go, he actually held back. Waah… And the ending just felt lackluster (see, I can hardly remember and I just read it a day or so ago only, yikes)… And for some odd reason, for the first time ever, I noticed the tense used. Could that have been it?

A real shame as I thought they had good chemistry even when things were not going right.

Not a fave Ella read… (sad sigh)

Chapter 2 and 3 sucked me into this wonderful story. The scenes between Am and Dash are so hot! I loved the mystery of Dash and the mystery of the secret he held.
