It might be possible to cook rice in the pressure setting, after some searing/quick frying the rice. I know people that cook rice in regular pressure cookers. I would assume the slow cooking setting would be too long for rice cooking. Hope that helps.
It is electrical .Easy to use with a bit of a learning curve.The top will not come off until the pressure has come down,safety feature.Also when you start it up there will be a hissing sound when it has reached the temperature which will go away.I share this to reassure you that nothing is going wrong.I gave one to my daughter and gave her a quick run thru too.Good Luck and enjoy its a super appliance.
See page 27 in your instruction book for various amount of rice and time or...
4 cups of rice (using the cup that you get with the cooker ) to 6 cups of water (using the little cup thing you get with cooker . ) put pressure setting on medium . Press function button then select pressure cook . Enter time of 20 minutes . Put lid on and press start
