Product Description

PAL REGION 2 DVD REQUIRES A REGION FREE DVD UNIT FOR PLAYBACK. WILL PLAY ON MOST COMPUTER DVD DRIVES < ENGLISH SUBTITLES> When a body is found on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, right on the border, Danish inspector Marin Rohde and Swedish Saga Norén have share jurisdiction and work together to find the killer. REVIEW: This series is about the co-operation between a danish and a Swedish cop in solving a string of murders in the Copenhagen/Malmo area. I would advice readers not to listen to people who didn't even bother watching at least half the series before writing a review. Truth is, the show is a bit of a slow starter. At the end of episode one, I was left with the impression of a fairly mediocre show with an annoying female lead character that is poorly acted. However, one soon realizes that her restrained and unemotional manner is part of her character. Underneath this, Sofia Helin adds subtle nuances and complexity to her character that shows that she is a good actress. The plot also picks up and gets gradually more exciting and entertaining. Contrary to what others suggested, Kim Bodnia (who plays the danish cop) was actually very enthusiastic about this project and had nothing but praise for his female co-star. Needless to say, he is also very good in his role here. So my opinion is that this is a well made series with a complex and entertaining plot, interesting characters and good cinematography. On the negative side, some of the actors playing minor roles are sometimes less than stellar, the plot is far-fetched in places and the sound quality leaves some things to be desired in a few scenes. But with that said, Bron is a very good and well made series. Just make sure to give it a chance beyond the first couple of episodes or so before you decide what to think. Especially the main female character is somewhat unusual and requires some time to get a grasp of. But give it (and her) a chance and you won't regret it.

Bron / Broen (or the Bridge) in its first season follows an individual's plunge from an officer of the law to vigilante and subsequent conversion into a psychopathic killer. This series is set in the in-between space physically occupied by the "Bridge" that links Malmo in Sweden to Copenhagen in Denmark. Metaphorically, the series establishes a liminal space between the Danish and Swedish psyche, as two police officers from either side of the border learn to co-exist, sharing the political, jurisdictional, personal and societal pressures, to finally apprehend the killer.

Saga Norén the Swedish cop (Sofia Helin) and Martin Rohde her Danish counterpart (Kim Bodnia) are superb - Saga with her lack of social skills (reminiscent of people afflicted by autism) and Martin with his self-assured and sometimes desperate need for approval in work and personal relationships are partners who are diametrically opposed in their view of the world, and by extension to police work. However, as the series unfolds, we are taken on a journey that explores the internal depth of each of their characters and we slowly begin to appreciate the bond between them as they overcome personal and professional obstacles. Both of them manage to carry through on the investigation, influencing each other's world view, and quite unconsciously affecting behavioural changes in how they relate to people surrounding them. Both actors play their parts with a great deal of restraint never allowing us as viewers to feel distracted from the ethos of the overall vision for the series.

The series is austere in its depiction of Malmo as an industrial dystopia, and the suburbs of Copenhagen as equally dysfunctional.

Took a while to arrive. It's a region 2 series so had to install VLC to view it, so all that was a bit complicated. But dvds intact, excellent series, very dark.

Excellent, entertaining, and thought provoking series. Dark (it is Nordic Noir after all) but with it's funny and poignant moments. The acting is excellent, and I hardly noticed I was reading subtitles. After a while you can figure out what the characters are saying sometimes more accurately than the subtitles.

Our Danish and Swedish has improved dramatically. A dark and complicated, wonderful, riveting program. Not recommended for anyone who can't follow a plot for more than fifteen minutes at a time.
