Review

Praise for Tilda Shalof
 • "A smart patient knows more about coping with their disease than their physician, and Tilda Shalof's insights into the rigors of heart surgery are even more provocative since she brings a nurse's wisdom to her own operation." -- Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of the The Dr. Oz Show, on Opening My Heart
 • "Shalof has seen it all, and writes about it, too." -- Calgary Herald
 • "Grey's Anatomy should be so compelling." -- Globe and Mail on The Making of a Nurse

I work in home and community care the BC governments version of VON. It is representative of my experience working in community nursing doing wound care and palliative care in a rural area. Tilda Shalof's interview style needs work as she is a little brusque and over direct to the point of insensitivity but she seems to 'get it' and the challenges and the impact home nursing and preventative medicine can have on our wellness as a society and thereby decrease healthncosts. We need to focus on this sector of health care as it has the possibility of accomplishing more by spending less and most importantly giving better care outside of the hospital with compassion. Meeting the needs of people where they live.
Thank you Judith Shamian for understanding and advocating for what those of us in the home health systems already knew that the community not the hospital is where true wellness begins and ends.

I got the book without much interest but then I experienced the sad demise of a loved one and I thought there might be something in it for me. To my surprise, I got hooked. Tilda Shaloff is so good at keeping the reader interested. More than anything it addresses the significance of home care for sick patients. After all, who wants to be in a hospital? Another winner from Nurse Tilda. Thanks!

I have kept up with all of Tilda Shalof's books and just love them. She really cares about the patients and asks a lot of questions. As a nurse myself, she gives me something to strive for.
HASH(0x9e0f9978) out of 5 stars Bringing them home safely Aug. 9 2015
By Laura J Link - Published on Amazon.com

Very revealing although sometimes difficult to fathom what happens to people when they are discharged from hospital before they are ready to care for themselves. Certainly Home Care has a place in the healthcare system and fortunately the US powers-that-be understand this at the state level. I have worked in home care myself briefly and found that it is tiring physically, emotionally, and mentally and brings the need to know something about a lot of things and a lot about some things in nursing. The book's author didn't mention continuing contact with these patient's physicians or office visits that were encouraged to be kept, but what was covered did renew my interest in using my nusing skills through a home health agency connected with a hospital.
HASH(0x9e0f9dbc) out of 5 stars HOME CARE ANGELS! April 28 2015
By T. Kelly - Published on Amazon.com

I have read and loved all of Tilda's books. I was delightfully surprised when I read Bringing it Home. As a former hospital, nursing home, and home care nurse, I have heard the derisive comments from hospital nurses who think home care nurses are not "real" nurses. Tilda now understands and accurately presents home care nurses in a positive light. She experienced all that they do - most often on their own. They have to nurse the patient, and often the family, in complicated and often dysfunctional homes. I applaud her very thorough and insightful examination of these often overlooked angels.
