Product Description

With her trusty sidekick, Mustard the Labradoodle, each day is a new adventure for Britney Fairweather, a feisty teenager whose imagination often overtakes her good sense.
Not only has the nutmeg disappeared, so have the oven mitts, and store-bought cookies! With a new mystery to solve, Britney and Mustard search the house, determined to figure it out before her mother returns. Armed with courage and night-vision goggles, the two believe they are after house elves. Rarely dangerous, these mischievous creatures collect and hide all kinds of treasures they find in human homes. This isn’t Britney’s first encounter with them – the last time she met up with them she learned a startling revelation about herself: one that changed her future forever.

Jaclyn Aurore is best known for her Young Adult fiction books, but this book sees a new direction (children's fantasy) that should see the author grow a new fanbase.

Britney Fairweather and the Memory Thieves is a short, enjoyable read that introduces us to a teen that is flighty (but in the best way). Her imagination (or is it reality?) sees us share her adventures with house elves (but nothing like the Harry Potter ones, as the book tips a clever nod to!) and why you can trust them - but not.

The voice and tone of the book is just right for the target audience, and younger middle grade readers should enjoy the most, although anyone with an open imagination should also enjoy.

HASH(0xa31bb354) out of 5 stars Them thievin' elves! May 28 2014

I honestly had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book (I'm not one for reading cover blurbs). The title was offered to me by a friend and I'm glad I took the suggestion. It's short, but that shouldn't detract from what is a beautiful little glimpse into a world that I hope Aurore has future plans for, a world that is altogether childish while also harboring a rather serious undertone.

Channeling the fun and free voice of children's authors like Roald Dahl, Aurore manages to craft a world simply by the tone of the narrator's speech patterns. A world that allows there to be deeper questions that don't need to be answered...at least not right away.

This book is fun and just perfect for a bus ride to help get away from it all for those 30 minutes. I highly recommend it!

A delightful tale, featuring a lovable sidekick named Mustard (or Musty, as he's sometimes called), and enough imagination to fill a dozen stories. As someone who remembers going on quite a few adventures in my own house growing up, I thought this was a very fun and endearing story, and something a lot of kids will be able to relate to.
