Review

"I decided to tell the story I'd always longed to read, which was one that focused on how people change and cope when the world falls down around them." ---Kate L. Mary

Product Description

A story of survival and horror, friendship and prejudice, Broken World will take you on an emotional journey that will leave you wanting more!

When a deadly virus sweeps the country, Vivian Thomas sets out for California in hopes of seeing the daughter she gave up for adoption. Then her car breaks down and she’s faced with a choice. Give up, or accept a ride from redneck brothers, Angus and Axl. Vivian knows the offer has more to do with her double D’s than kindness, but she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to reach her daughter.

The virus is spreading, and by the time the group makes it to California, most of the population has been wiped out. When the dead start coming back, Vivian and the others realize that no electricity or running water are the least of their concerns. Now Vivian has to figure out how to be a mother under the most frightening circumstances, cope with Angus’s aggressive mood swings, and sort out her growing attraction to his brooding younger brother, Axl.

While searching for a safe place to go, they pick up a pompous billionaire who may be the answer to all their problems. Trusting him means going into the middle of the Mojave Desert and possibly risking their lives, but with the streets overrun and nowhere else to turn, it seems he might be their only chance for survival.

This is one of thse "cheap" books i took a chance on. JACKPOT!! Broken World is a very very good zombie apocalypse book. It is a well written and....paced.....book. The neat thing about it is that zombies dont really enter the book till you are about half way through. There are hints and teasers up to that point, but zombies dont make tgeir enmasse appearance till that halfway mark.
The tv show and graphic novel The Walking Dead are mentioned many times throughout the book. Which leads to my only complaint. Many of the plot lines and actions are very much taken from The Walking Dead.
But still, this book is so well written I can forgive Kate L Mary for that.
All in all, this is a nice read. I rate Broken World 4 of 5 stars. Its a solid 4. Nicely done.

Let me start with I love the Walking Dead and I love the zombie genre. While this book had some interesting and fresh ideas about a Zombie Apocalypse I found the main character really hard to get behind, and Axl was (lets be honest) a poor man's Daryl Dixon. The jury is still out on whether I will buy the next book of the series.

I liked this zombie apocalypse story. The characters were a little hard to like at first and occasionally did something stupid but I guess people in real life are the same. While much of the story is standard stuff there are a few unique aspects that make it more interesting. Fans of the Breakers books would enjoy this series.
