The printer is very annoying with the message of replacing drum. I have never had this much problem with a printer before! This printer quality sucks and definitely will not buy the same printer again as few parts needs to be replace and its very expensive.

Weird. For 25 000 pages, but I reset it, and after 33 000 pages it still prints alright. We have not notice a decrease in print quality yet! Maybe because we print mostly texts and excel tables, but it is nice as it lasts a lot longer than expected. Same for the toner (TN315), they are supposed to last 6 000 pages, but got them around 10 000 pages before a decrease in quality.

I'm very satisfied with brother products since I know how to reset all the components. It's not very positive in my opinion that the printer forces to change the toner/drum when it reaches 0%, but fortunately it is possible to reset despite NOT being user friendly.

HASH(0xa614c684) out of 5 stars Drum unit for 9970 cdw April 11 2012
By gailh - Published on Amazon.com

In general, we really like our Brother printers (we have several). We did run into problems with this one with the "replace drum unit" message. It wouldn't go away even after replacing the drum unit with a new one. After looking at the manual and doing an internet search, we finally called Brother. Then we went though an hour's worth of troubleshooting before they gave us the way to reset the drum count.

To get to the reset menu that will let you reset the drum count, hit the stop/exit button. then the number 3 and 9 at the same time. This also gets you to the belt reset.

I like the brother printers, but the end of life for the consumables comes up way faster than they should. They need to let ME be the one to judge when the print quality is reduced to the point where things need to be replaced.

HASH(0xa607606c) out of 5 stars It works like it is supposed to Feb. 23 2012

I typically get third party toner, but a new drum unit isn't something I trust from remanufacturer. This is the OEM Brother drum and it has been working great in our MFC-9970CDW printer. It would be great if it was cheaper, but it isn't, so there isn't much I can do about that.

HASH(0xa60df4f8) out of 5 stars Long Lasting Sept. 6 2012

this is the first Brother printer I have owned. We use it in the office and it gets a workout every day. The drum kit lasted just over 1 year. I was surprised at how easy it was to pull out and replace. Overall we have had no problems. The print quality is still excellent.

HASH(0xa5efa6f0) out of 5 stars Brother Problem! Is It Toner Cartridges or Drum Unit? Feb. 11 2016
By Cynical Bob - Published on Amazon.com

This purchase is to replace a drum unit that was only 13 months old. The symptoms leading up to having to replace the drum were (a) cyan and magenta toner cartridges leaking great amounts of toner and thus causing a Drum Error message requiring the constant cleaning of the four toner wires on the drum.

It is very hard to tell whether the toner leakages caused the drum problem or whether the drum caused the toner leakages. I have noticed in the past that Brother TN-315 cyan and magenta cartridges leak far more than the yellow and black ones do. Is that do to location on the drum? The leaking colors are to the back of the drum while the non-leakers are to the front. As a customer who is NOT interested in the engineering behind laser printers, I really don't give a rat's patoot. Brother has a problem here that needs addressing in a hurry.

HASH(0xa5efaf54) out of 5 stars Was not to happy, the unit came with like 63% life left May 12 2015

Was not to happy, the unit came with like 63% life left, not 100%. I needed it right away for I run a business and did not have time to send back etc.
