HASH(0xa56dfe70) out of 5 stars Solid Album March 20 2003
By FormerZygote - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Death In June(Douglas Pearce) hosts a partilcular quality Neo-folk removed from Current 93 and its members that finished the line up of this album. Douglas having been in much more of a industrial rock/goth band that 'was' Death In June, before this album, created this a varrying and dark folk album with Tibet and Rose McDowell adding vocals. As an album this is a solid work. Not as smooth as his later work Douglas still seems to be leaving the much more rock past of Death In June behind. Nowhere near as synth pop/industrial as "Nada" not as silky and ethereal as "But What ends When the Cymbals Shatter" this album fills as a solid prelude to "Wall of Sacrifice" being that in brings very much the same aspects only more present are the small drums and that filter through a few songs in this album. Guarenteed to be a Death In June favorite, "Brown Book" is very worth a purchase.

HASH(0xa56dfec4) out of 5 stars Perfect soundtrack for the black arts July 10 2004

This was the first full length DiJ album I had and was so pleased it was rereleased. Douglas Pearce's use of ethereal fillers and Hitler samples captures evil in a way that death metal bands have attempted to for years. If you can grasp a true gem in the world of 'goth' expiremental fare, try this album on for size. The acoustics are perfect; not too complicated in composition but utterly poetic in lyric, the whole album creates an atmosphere of graveyard sophistication that will make you want to summon the darkness of men's souls yourself! Awesome!

Not a 5 star album like "Rose Clouds" or "NADA!", but pure dark moodiness from songs like "Burn Again" and "Brown Book" (actually "Horst Wessel Lied", the national anthem of the Third Reich) make this one to play for your friends who have been taking too many strange WILL open their eyes...

HASH(0xa56e14f8) out of 5 stars Brown Book DIJ At Its Hieght July 20 2004

Remember when music was fun? And the more disturbing the better! From the Death's Head cover to the Third Reich and Odinist imagery this is a fun and disturbing album. Recorded durning the period that brought us Rose Cloud of Holocast and Symbols the music is acoustic and haunting and defending the Aryan way. This is for the strong not for the faint.
