Knife has a good feel in the hand. Looks great and I like that the knife locks into the sheath. The blade has just the right amount of flexibility, but I don't think they finished sharpening this knife as the blade was dull and rough. Almost like a finely serrated knife. It will take a bit of work to get it sharp and smooth, otherwise a nice knife.

I am not a knife aficionado, but this knife is super sharp, well balanced and has a very long blade which makes it very useful for filleting large fish; my primary use.

The size of this knife is great. Its taking me abit to get used to the extra 3 inches but it feels nice and perfectly balanced in my hand.

HASH(0x9cdc5c9c) out of 5 stars My best choice for a fine filet knife May 23 2010
By Michael Ary - Published on Amazon.com

I had almost given up looking for a quality filet knife. I finally bought this filet knife on Amazon after I saw it at a finer knife store in my area, and was able to comparison shop by actually holding it and seeing all its qualities. It's made by Buck Knives, long time makers of safe, reliable, and durable hunting, fishing and sport knives. It is large sized (almost 10 inch blade), yet weighs only 5+ oz. I like it's rubberized anti-slip grip and stainless steel finger guard for assured safety. This is important when handling slimy fish. It is made with a titanium coated steel blade, but I get the feeling that the blade, though flexible, may snap if bent. This is why I gave it only a 4 star. It comes with a nice plastic sheath with belt clip and best of all an unconditional lifetime warranty. I didn't see any filet knife superior than this for the price.

HASH(0x9cdc5eb8) out of 5 stars Requires Too Much Maintenance July 15 2014
By Raffpap - Published on Amazon.com
This was a good knife out of the box. However, I soon discovered it required a lot of sharpening because it does not maintain an edge. I also own the American-made Buck Clearwater and had the last 4 weeks or so to compare them on sockeye salmon here in Alaska. In the end, the Clearwater was getting through 8-10 fish before needing another sharpening, while this foreign-made Silver Creek was done after only 3-4 fish. Seriously, I saw the difference. This is probably a good knife for small fish, however, I highly recommend you get the USA-made Clearwater if you want excellent staying power on larger fish.

HASH(0x9cdc5f9c) out of 5 stars Buck 225 Silver Creek Large Fillet Knife Aug. 16 2011

I have only been using this knife on my charter boat for a couple weeks so it's still early and I will update this review if need be in the future.

I like the lengthy blade for the salt water fish that I clean. I very much like the amount of flex this blade has. I'm not so keen on that even Buck is making knives in China these days. Discovering that was a little deflating.

I have seen some tiny rust spots on the ground edge so I have been careful to rinse the knife with fresh water and dry it after each use.

Update December 13 2012

I'm still using this knife and it is performing well. Everything I posted above still goes but I just wanted to update the review to mention that I'm still getting good service from it. The rust is annoying but I do like the flex in the blade and it takes an edge well.

I didn't realize or wasn't thinking this knife was going to be somewhat larger than the filet knives I currently use. But today I used the knife on a 45# Blue catfish and several other catfish and I love it. The long length of this knife makes it extremely easier to go through the wider bodies of very large catfish. It's a Buck so what do you expect? Quality knives that are well built so this knife should last me a long time. If you're into cleaning large fish, this is an excellent knife.

HASH(0x9ce5769c) out of 5 stars Love the knife and the length allows you to fillet ... Sept. 23 2014

Love the knife and the length allows you to fillet large fish in one swipe! Filleted a 30 pound salmon with ease. The sheath is ok. It is made of a durable plastic and the knife clicks into the sheath for a snug fit. What I don't like is that it clips onto your belt and can easily fall off. Instead of a clip there should be a loop that you can run your belt through making the sheath/knife unable to fall off.
