HASH(0x9c0eb768) out of 5 stars Perfect if you're using MS Word for Mac 2011 May 15 2012
By Laura De Giorgio - Published on

This booklet has yet the best and simplest instructions for formatting your ebook for kindle if you're using MS Word for Mac 2011. The instructions for using MS Word for Mac are only slightly different than the instructions in the same book for PC using MS Word 2010. While on PC you may be able to generate table of contents automatically, on Mac you have to type them in manually and then use bookmarks and hyperlinks. The book suggests that you create hyperlinks to headings, but for me it worked better when I converted headings to bookmarks and then hyperlinked to bookmarks.

After you've formatted your ebook you save it in "html" format - on word it is filtered html format, on Mac instead of saving the entire file into html, you choose to save only display information. You can download Kindle previewer which makes it easy to check your work in progress and to fix anything that doesn't look right or that doesn't work.

I've purchased and read several books on formatting ebooks for Kindle and this short and free ebook proved the best so far. You can format your ebook in minutes following the instructions presented here.

HASH(0x9c0eb9b4) out of 5 stars Simple, to the point & easy to follow! June 25 2012

This book is the perfect companion for anyone using a Mac to publish an ebook on Kindle. I am not overly-computer savvy, and I found all the instructions very easy to follow and implement--my first book went live this weekend! It is also quick to read, so you don't get bogged down in too much information. Follow these instructions, and you'll have a published book in no time!

HASH(0x9c0eb978) out of 5 stars Incomplete, contains inaccuracies Dec 20 2012
By Kevin Barrack - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book is okay as a starting point for learning how to publish on the Kindle, but it is incomplete and contains some inaccuracies. It does not match what is written on the site.

One example is tha it says that you can publish both html and PDF files on Kindle, but it never talks about how or why to use a PDF. It also says you can use InDesign, yet it only describes how to use Word to create your book.

Another thing it says that is just incorrect is that you should not paste images into word but should instead use the insert command so that the file will be linked instead of embedded in the document. They both result in the same thing: an image embedded in the document. When saving as html (per their guidelines), the images get re-rendered as PNG files, which isn't necessarily a good thing if you're trying to watch file size.

The book also says that your images will only display in color "if you use a lot of images", but the truth is that your images will always display in color on any color-capable Kindle. This is important to know.

The book does not provide guidelines for image sizing, but says that GIF format is preferred to PNG with no reason given.

This is not a bad place to start, but if you want the nitty gritty truth then visit

HASH(0x9c0ebccc) out of 5 stars Helpful and Free: Two of my favorite words July 24 2012

I picked up this book because I was putting my book Me On TV: The First Ever Kick-Ass Guide To Get You On Any Reality Show on kindle. It was super helpful and if you look at my book site, it worked! It's been up for just over two weeks and already has 16 four and five star reviews! I'm really glad Amazon offered this up to me, as without it I would have been adrift on the ocean. I think anyone who is looking to publish a book on Kindle should be required to read this. :)
