Product Description

Sly “Bullhorn” Brodsky wished winning the heart of Samantha Drake was as easy as protecting his quarterback. A top offensive lineman in the NFL, Bull tried to live down his rep as a womanizer. Locker room chatter had elevated him to the level of “player” in more than football. But Samantha Drake, dark-haired, stunning sister of a teammate, didn’t want to have anything to do with him. Or did she?
On his best behavior, Bull pulled out all the stops to woo the reluctant beauty. He was making progress until a woman from his past reappeared. Tiffany, the one woman who broke his heart, is in trouble. Is Bull the only man who can help?
Samantha is overcoming her doubts about Bull until Tiffany arrives. Is the blonde really in hot water or does she just want another chance with the man she discarded?
Enjoy the return of your favorite First & Ten characters in this book, too. Surprises, twists, and football action scenes will keep you turning the pages.

A taste of the book - 4 snippets:

Samantha Drake was quality. No slut, no easy chick, no woman to toy with. She was of the “bring ’em home to mom” variety. He was lucky to have her attention. How many bruisers like him ended up with classy women? None he knew of.
Maybe Bullhorn Brodsky, whose booming voice could be heard in the next county, and who could bring a three-hundred-pounder to his knees, had a shot at a relationship with this exceptional woman. Don’t blow it, Sly, he’d told himself a thousand times.

Samantha closed the front door and leaned back against it. Her pulse was racing, her face was hot, and she was a bit breathless. She had never expected the big man to be able to kiss like that. Of course, if he was a major seducer, that would make sense. But he appeared to be real sweet. He’d helped her move all day then taken her to dinner—his only reward a couple of steamy kisses. Doesn’t fit with the image of a major player.
He tasted like café au lait, and he smelled like a woodsy aftershave mixed with his own, unique scent. When her fingers had tightened around his biceps, a tingle had shot all the way through her. The man was solid steel. Except his warm skin. She had braced herself against his chest.
She had wanted him to make love to her. A trip to Nirvana in the arms of the offensive lineman would have been heaven. But her rational mind had stepped in, putting her libido on hold. Besides, he hadn’t asked. He’d been the first to break and left her wanting.

Bull sensed the color rise to his face. That’s exactly what he’d said to Trunk when they’d prowl the strip clubs together on the road, before Tiffany came into his life. After she’d broken his heart, he didn’t have it in him to go back to his tomcatting ways. He’d known love and nothing less was acceptable anymore. How could he make Trunk understand? “That was then, and this is now.”

“I’ve never been to a place like this. Do you know anything about this kind of food?” he asked, his brow furrowed, as he read the menu.
“A little. I see those sweet potato fries.” She arched her eyebrows as she studied the offerings.
“I’ll have those. What else?”
“A veggie burger?”
“With enough catsup, you can eat anything,” he said, but his voice didn’t ring as confident as his words.

My Musings

I have been a fan of Jean C. Joachim’s books for several years. When the chance came up to read and review SLY “Bullhorn” Brodsky, Offensive Line, I quickly agreed. This is the first book in the First & Ten series I have read. Darn it! Now I’m going to have to read the other four books in this light-hearted and entertaining series.

Samantha Drake is extremely attracted to her brother’s teammate on his NFL team. While she has heard Sly Brodsky has a reputation as a “player”, she takes a chance and agrees to date him. When his ex-Fiancée re-enters the picture, it has her questioning the wisdom of her decision.

Sly Brodsky wants Samantha in a big way, even if he has to go up against her brother on his team. Unfortunately, Tiffany, the woman from his past, is in trouble, and he feels he must help her.

Will he be able to convince Samantha she is the only woman for him, or will his ex destroy the fragile bond between him and the woman he loves?

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun book. It has a bit of everything. A great romance, engaging characters, and suspense. The Sly’s story is fast paced and kept me turning the pages to see how it would end. One thing I particularly enjoyed, was the true to life dialogue between the players on the NFL football team. Ms. Joachim brings the characters to life with their typical locker room banter.

Samantha is an engaging character, and I became fully vested in her character from the start. She is a strong independent woman, dedicated to her brother and crusades for abused women. As the story unfolds, I could really get inside her head, which is something I love.

Sly is a sweetheart of a guy and a great hero. While he has every reason to be cautious when it comes to having a serious relationship––after getting left at the altar by his ex-fiancée––he is so smitten with Sam, he is willing to take the risk. I loved his loyalty to his team and teammates, and his desire to protect Samantha.

Sly’s story is sure to be a hit with football fans for sure, male and female alike. Ms. Joachim must be a huge football fan because she certainly understands the game. If you are looking for a fun read with interesting characters, plenty of action and a very romantic ending, then you will love this book. Happy reading!

HASH(0xa1404924) out of 5 stars Book 5 of the First and Ten Series Nov. 22 2015
By Sassy Beta Reading & Review - Published on

Jean Joachim does it again with book five of the First & Ten series. Where she keeps coming up with these ideas, I have no idea. All I can say, is "Keep 'em coming! I want more!"

Even though this is book 5 of the series, this book can be read as a stand alone. Do I think you should only read this one? Heck no!!! Let your fingers do the walking and buy all five right now....

I'll wait.............................

Did you get them yet? Of course you did! How silly of me :)

So..... Sly "Bull" is a fantastic football player. He's had a rough go of things: tough childhood where things were tight, being used by women who just want his money, and the biggie, his ex fiance walked out on him on his wedding day. Let's just say he is a lil gun shy now. But that all changes when he meets Samantha Drake. Not only is she hot, sexy and everything he ever wanted in a girlfriend/lover/wife, she is also Devon Drakes lil sister. Things are not easy for Sly and Sam, they have to sneak around to be together to start but the real sparks fly when Sly's ex fiance comes back to town begging for Sly's help and a few other things. Sam has to decide if she can trust Sly to chose her.

This story takes you on their roller coaster ride journey to a happily ever after. This was written as a multi pov. And I don't just mean, Sly and Sam. We have just about everyone from the previous books pov's as well, which was actually a good thing. It had been a while since I read about Buddy, Devon, Coach, etc. that it was nice to see what was happening with them in their lives as well. They did not take over the story as you may think, but actually added to it. Esp. when they all ended up together at a few different gatherings. It was a great tie in.

The story line was fantastic, the descriptions to details were done nicely, and the dialogue between characters was engaging and easy to follow. Loved the characters and the parts they played in this book. I laughed, I got teary eyed and had a heart twinge of two. Now I can not wait till we get to see Trunk's story!!

Would I recommend this book? Absofreakinlutely!!

Would I read more from this author? Well, Yea!!

HASH(0xa1da7f24) out of 5 stars Another King gets his Queen Nov. 29 2015

Book five in the First and Ten brought us Bull and Sam's story. I've been waiting to read this story since we saw their budding romance in Devon and Stormy's story. I felt like Jean walked a delicate line of bringing the reader their new story and catching us up on all the other teammates from the Kings. There was so much going on in the story, that it kept the reader engaged from start to finish.

I loved the continuing thread of the battered women's shelter, Jean always manages to bring important issues to the attention of her readers. Sam took her role at the shelter very seriously and went above and beyond her duty to protect those women.

Bull had some intimacy issues from his last relationship, and though he knows that he loves Sam, he doesn't know if he can handle a wedding. Add in the return of the woman who caused those issues, Sam not sure if she could trust him, the playoffs and a best friend who seems to be self-destructing.

I loved the football aspect of the book. I loved the team feeling and how close they all are. It was nice to get the continuation the other 4 stories all in one place, where they added to the story line of Sam and Bull.

Overall, another great addition to the series!

HASH(0xa152fc00) out of 5 stars Another touchdown on the field of love Nov. 22 2015

I was really excited to see that Bullhorn got his story. His relationship with Sam was quite and exciting tale. Just as all the other players met their match, so has Bullhorn. Now it would have been easier if she had been someone no one knew ,but of course he has to make things hard and fall for one of his teammates sisters. Locker room chatter, bragging and conquest tales do not earn him the approval of his woman's brother but maybe his actions will. Sam is no fool, she has heard the talk about Bullhorn, heck her brother even warned her away from him. However, she is not about to let that get in the way of getting to know the guy who seems to have intercepted her heart. Even though Sly is a big guy, he has a big heart. He was gentle, romantic and treated Sam like a lady. It was nice to see that he had a soft side and knew how to show it. Great characters, awesome storyline complete with drama and the people you just love to hate. I love how in each new tale we revisit the other characters and catch up on their lives. The crossover makes the storyline so much more real to me and pulls you deeper into the worlds Ms. Joachim creates. I look forward to seeing who falls into the writing web next. :)

HASH(0xa152fd74) out of 5 stars if you are a fan of sports romance you need to read this one! Nov. 30 2015

If you think you know what to expect with the First & Ten Series then you have another thing coming when you read this one!

Sly Brodsky is a huge teddy bear and I absolutely adore him. Samantha has a big heart as well...I don't think I would have been handle the situation with as much class as she did. Yes they have their problems (which is refreshing in a world of *perfect* relationships) but they each realize their faults and work through them.

Between the family and team drama, the football action, and Sly and Samantha discovering their relationship, there isn't a single dull moment in the book. It is also great to revisit all of the past characters in more depth, not just in passing as in other books. It brought more humor and humanity into this book, with Buddy trying to work out the relationship his mom has with hank and Trunk struggling to change his ways and mend his relationship with his wife. These big, bad football players face the same hard decisions and challenges that any normal person does. It's refreshing and well-written.
