We received our new concert-sized ukulele bundle from Lohanu a few days ago and wow, it's terrific! It came quickly and was well packaged. It was double boxed and came by Canada Post to the door. A huge wad of brown paper surrounded the inner box. Inside that inner box was the black gig bag and the uke itself was wrapped snugly in foam wrap inside the gig bag. It would take a disaster to damage it in transit wrapped like that. It also appears all the wrapping material is recyclable which is a plus.
Even before it came, Joseph, the owner of the company, was in touch by email to be sure any questions were answered and make a personal connection with his customers. This is rare to the point of being a unique experience! Their customer service is the best I have experienced and the lifetime warranty? Well, who hears of that these days? Who heard of that ever?? It was the deciding factor for me to buy this kit rather than any other. Definitely buy with confidence I would say. They mean it when they say they want you to be completely happy with your purchase and will go to great lengths for that to happen. Victor of Lohanu went the extra mile for us to make sure it was a perfect consumer experience.
First: about the accessories: the gig bag is nice and sturdy. It's very sleek and fits snugly with a moderate amount of padding. It couldn't protect your uke from someone who accidentally sits on it but for normal travel or storage it is excellent. Nice Lohanu logo on the front with a thin outer zip compartment. Big enough for a set of extra strings (supplied!) and some picks.
There is a trick to getting the picks out of the little pick holder but with a little patience you will get it figured out. They will stay in there safely until you remove them that's for sure ;)
The uke strap is nicer than the picture would imply. It's sort of a twill band. There is a subtle impressed (or debossed) Lohanu logo on one end. The strap pins are perfectly placed. Not many ukes come with them standard so that's a super nice bonus.
The clip-on tuner is terrific! It is branded Lohanu and is supplied with a standard easy-to-replace round battery. It takes only seconds to tune the uke perfectly. How I wish they had these years ago!
As to the ukulele itself (the reason you are reading this review) -- beautiful sound and holds its tuning longer than was implied. Every stringed instrument needs time to settle and needs extra tuning at first. With the clip-on tuner, that is a matter of seconds. So convenient and easy. It is a pretty thing too with the light striped ABS binding and the warm mahogany veneer. The name is impressed into the peghead rather than being a decal or sticker which gives it a higher-end look.
We are beginners so cannot speak to how it sounds or feels when played by an expert but to our amateur ears it is a warm, sweet-sounding instrument (did I mention the lifetime warranty?!) what more can you possibly ask? and at a sensible price point as well. Completely satisfied here! If you are on the fence, come over to the Lohanu side! :)
Incidentally Lohanu is a Canadian company and that makes a difference to us; whenever possible we try to support Canadian entrepreneurs!
The ukulele is nicely appointed. The fit and finish is good, although there are 2-3 small blemishes on the back a side. The fretboard is bound, but I think the frets are still a bit sharp, they don’t cut me or anything, but there are places along the fretboard that I can’t feel them and places where they feel sharp. Not sure if that’s a flaw or not.
The set up seems good, no buzzing and the strings don’t feel difficult to press.
The sound is nice, the resonance is decent and so is the sustain. I don’t have much to compare it with except an old soprano store brand ukulele that I have. This tenor uke is definitely louder, bigger and brighter.
I recommend this ukulele.
*update- I received a very quick reply to my email concerning the tuner. Nat from Lohanu was great and quickly offered to send me a replacement. Friendly and efficient service ehich is customer focused. Just as promised! Very highly recommend both for quality of product and reliable customer service.
Top reviews from other countries

During lockdown [2020] I bought a Stagg ukulele and learned to play via youtube tutorials.
I was surprised by the differences in tone and sound. The Lohanu has a more mellow sound and a ring.
The reason I was looking for another Ukulele, is my granddaughter plays Ukulele and is due to visit, I figured she may not want to bring hers on a flight from Ireland. I am desperate to play alongside her and learn from her, I thought it prudent to have a spare. The bundle was attractive the price was excellent so I ordered.
I am delighted with the Lohanu, I have had it two weeks now and as suggested by the seller I tune it twice a day and it now needs less tuning per day. Initially the strings were very slack, you have to be brave and keep tightening until the tuner registers. My Stagg came ready tuned and has rarely needed tuning ever since, although I check it daily. I like to have the two Ukuleles, although I am very much a novice having never played any musical instrument, aged 73, I am having fun and learning some songs for my own and
my families amusement, parlour entertainment. I have found it easier to change chords on the Lohanu but can't figure why, I have measured the strings spacing - no difference, I think the back of the neck is slightly thicker and I have long fingers so maybe this helps, I have slight arthritis in my fingers and so it is harder to curl them.
I hope this review helps anyone considering making a purchase of a Lohanu, I thoroughly recommend it, especially for a learner like me.
Bear in mind my Stagg was three times the price!

Things to be aware of:
* Like any stringed instrument, the stings do take a little time before they stretch to the point where they're able to maintain the tuning. So it is completely normal to have to re-tune it frequently at first. But eventually the stings do settle in and hold the tune as they should.
* There are some sharper edges along the neck where the fret lines are. But to me this really wasn't a big deal. Not even worth deducting a star over. I've never been cut or even stretched by them and it doesn't interfere with my ability to play it comfortably. Just something to be aware of.
Now for the accessories. If this is your first ukulele and you're just trying to get as much as you can for the lowest price possible, these accessories will get you by for now. And some of them are in fact quite good. But first let's start with the gig bag. This gig bag wasn't my favorite. It offers very little padding and doesn't open wide enough to let you lie your uke inside it. Instead you have to slide your uke into it through the side, which can result in your tuning pegs moving and untuning the instrument while trying to store it. It is a very lightweight bag, but that's probably due to the lack of padding and smaller zipper opening. This gig bag is better than nothing and will get you by, but you'll probably want to upgrade it soon.
The plastic picks are very nice looking and come in 2 different sizes. It also comes with a pick holder. However, everything I've read says that plastic picks are not recommended for ukuleles due to the wear on the stings and the unappealing plastic-y clicking sound it makes when you use them. I've tried using them anyway and the plastic-y clicks make it sound more like a cheap toy than the beautiful instrument that it is. Most people recommend not using a pick at all. But if you must use a pick, the most recommended types of pick to use on ukuleles are felt, rubber or leather picks. Again these plastic ones will get you by, but you'll likely want to upgrade those too.
Now for the good stuff. Getting an extra set of Aquila strings is awesome. These are high quality stings that are some of the best ukulele stings on the market and having an extra set handy is really helpful. The strap is good and I like that it's adjustable. It's a bit plain for my taste. But that's understandable since it's trying to appeal to a broad audience. The included tuner excellent. It can be used for several different types of stringed instruments. It's very easy to use and easy to read, even for someone like myself who is visually impaired.
Free online lessons: Okay yes you can find similar lesson videos on YouTube. However, with the Lohanu lessons you get everything you need to get started in one easy to find place. You get a few very easy to follow video lessons, a couple of songs to learn, and the numbered cord charts to go with them, without having to go look for each thing individually. I do wish there were more lessons and songs though. And maybe they'll add some in the future. But the current lessons will at least allow you to get started right out of the box.
Despite my few hang ups with some of the accessories, I didn't deduct a star because this company could have easily sold the ukulele alone for this same price and it would've been well worth it. The extras are simply that, extras. If you look around you'll see lower quality ukes for even higher prices that don't come with anything else at all. So even if you end up not using some of the accessories, you will save money on the ones you do find useful and that's a bonus. And if you're a beginner like me, the online lessons are a nice little bonus too. Over all I am extremely happy with this perchance. I LOVE my ukulele and I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone looking for a good quality ukulele at an affordable price.

Anyway, thanks for letting me have a win on music again! I will get good at playing this because I see it is possible.
