Great read. As a novice it was fairly easy to comprehend. I do wish it had more illustrations as many of the terms are lost on me. My husband and I have both had to intermittently stop and "google" a term in order to understand better its context. It is a good starting point.

Received my Bushcraft 101 Sept,2014 in soft cover format and the content is as the title describes: "101"; succinct and to the point as I progress through it. After subscribing to Dave Canterbury's youtube videos on this subject/bushcraft in general I guess at first examination and first blush I was expecting more in terms of visuals within the book being a visual/hands on learner. Having said that, it is of no real consequence as the book is based on the five "C"s of survivability, is a detailed guide, and another great resouce I have at my fingertips. It is well indexed and covers what you need and should know. If your just starting into exploring the woods/bush etc then I think this is the book for you, and if you are further along which is where I think I fit in, it is still for you as there are valuable tips/points in there you can reference. There is always something new to learn and practice. If you are more advanced I would suggest you may wish to master what this book offers first while waiting for perhaps the advanced version should that be forthcoming. I am reading the book along side my IPAD and researching points I wish to pursue along the way, making it even a more enjoyable read. The book is worth purchasing. I trust Dave Canterbury's outdoor survival knowledge. When out bowhunting in October it will be my downtime companion for sure. I am a fan of the author based on what I see here and his videos.

There's a lot of tips in this book. I can appreciate the Author trying to compile so much data in one volume.

The trouble in this case, is that a lot of the information is either technically or historically inaccurate. Canterbury has a BIG following in the Bushcraft world, and he is highly regarded as one of the top instructors. Knowing this, and knowing how poorly sourced this book actually is, sort of hurts.

I look forward to a properly edited/gutted/re-written second edition.

There are some fantastic books on wilderness survival to be sure and I am not saying this one is the best but it is certainly in the top 5. Dave Cantebury is a very down to earth practitioner of wilderness skills.

His 5 and 10 C's approach is easy to understand and just as easy to implement.

His first attempt at a book of this nature (no pun intended) was in need of work and he has made a fantastic second attempt.

This book is a little bit limited in spots compared to Mors Kochanski's "Bushcraft", and it's more of a survival guide than anything else. I was expecting more vushvraft and less survival as Dave Canterbury has an excellent YouTube channel, and that's why I'm only giving it 4 stars. However, the information in this book is well-written and in good detail. A few more illustrations would be nice in addition to the existing ones (which are well done).

I found the book to be lacking in information. All of the descriptions were incomplete. Often the author would mention something and fail to describe it in detailed enough terms so you could really understand how or why the technique was used that way. The illustrations were not great and it could have benefited with more step by step in photos and writing. It seems as if the writer tries to cover too much and does not show an understanding themselves I would not recommend this book there are other that are better like Mors Bush Craft and 98.6 by Cody Lundin, Larry Dean Olsen's book.

This is a great book for learning some of the skills on bushcraft. It's a little light on diagrams so there are a few gaps in the understanding if you are a more visual reader like me. He explains the skills so someone who learns best by reading will get very well, just not me. That said, it is fantastic but dock it a star because there are parts I couldn't understand from the explanations.
