“What a marvelous cookbook! Rosie’s exquisite gourmet marshmallows put her on the map (and fly off our shelves at Joan’s on Third). Her wonderful Butter Baked Goods is an essential, accessible book of baking, filled with Rosie’s delicious recipes for classic sweets—and beautiful photography that bring Butter home.”
—Joan McNamara, owner of Joan’s on Third, Los Angeles

In reading the curated recipes and taking in the enticing photos, you will be convinced you can actually smell the goodies in the oven! Passionate home cooks know that baking is about that treasured process, and Rosie will have you rushing into the kitchen to bake."
—Anna Olson, Food Network host and author of Back to Baking

These heartfelt, timeless recipes are sure to be enjoyed by generations to come, and with this book, readers can recreate the warmth of Butter Baked Goods in their own home."

“Long before I met Rosie Daykin, I met her baked goods. The tarts, the cupcakes, the cookies, the various delectable bars that were all so incredibly delicious it became soul-crushing to choose one over the other. As regulars, we came to know Rosie—the sweetie behind the sweets—and it wasn’t long before we fell in love with her too. She’s an amazingly talented woman, and a wonderful human being. Still, if I had to choose between her and one of her Dream Bars, it’d be a tough call. Maybe with this cookbook I can make my own"
—Brent Butt, actor, comedian and creator of Corner Gas
"The lost art of old-fashioned family baking is preserved and made simple, accessible and beautiful in Butter Baked Goods. This cookbook is a celebration of the memories shared through baking, with recipes that will have you running back to the cookie jar for more. Rosie has grown her business well beyond the bakery yet preserves the magic, keeping baking as it's meant to be—easy and totally delicious."
—Trish Magwood, chef and author of In My Mother's Kitchen

The dream slice, cream cheese buttercream and the butter's vanilla cupcakes were the only ones i had issues with. The buttercream says to mix on high for 10-12 minutes. DO NOT DO THIS - it will turn it liquid and won't work as a frosting anymore (still delicious though). I had to remake the frosting. So just mix it until it's mixed and a bit fluffy and then it will be perfect for frosting. I love the flavour of the cream cheese buttercream. I'm not sure what I did wrong with the cupcakes - they were dry and not soft, spongey. I would try making them again but haven't had the chance. The dream slice, it says to use a pastry cutter to mix the crust, but I would make it in the food processor or a mixer as mine wasn't well mixed enough. If it had been i'm sure it would've been fine. And in the dream slice, I found 1/2 cup heavy cream way too much in the buttercream. It made it really grainy and was too much. maybe i should have added the cream much slower.
I have one of the first editions of this book so I wonder if there were some recipe errors and that's why some things didn't work out for me. Or maybe some recipes just need a bit better instruction (ex. emphasizing very slowly adding the cream to the buttercream for the dream slice).
Overall, I love love love this book. I can't wait to own their second book and continue baking my way through both books! I would highly recommend adding it to your baking book collection.
I immediatley bought the cookbook and have been making delicious baked goods ever since.
The store in Dunbar area in Vancouver has high tea as well as baked goods for sale and the book reminds me of the shop itself -inviting and there is a great attention to even the smallest of details. As an example the book has a ribbon to hold your spot in the book and it has the "Butter" logo on it. The colours and lighting used to photograph the cakes, cookies and other treats makes you want to start baking right away. The first recipe I tried was the "Hello There, Doll Face" squares. The recipe only had six ingredients and the results were a pan of sqaures that were ridiculously easy to make and were so yummy that all the pieces disappeared very quickly. The recipe was made over and over at our home for the holidays and added to trays to give away to friends. I also made the "Chocolate Espresso Pound Cake" and it was so popular at work that I made small-sized bundt cakes for the office as Christmas gifts. The instructions are easy to follow and every recipe I have tried has turned out to look like the photogaphs in the book. The marshmallows (which is something the bakery is known for) are surprisingly simple to make if you follow the instructions. You will become a master baker and candy maker by using the recipes in this book and your friends will be very impressed. I am so happy with this purchase that I have ordered a dozen copies to give to friends for upcoming birthdays. I highly recommend this cookbook.
