Product Description

Product Description

Christmas compilation for the popular FOX series.

In the admittedly narrow genre of holiday discs adapted from TV shows, Have a Very Merry Chrismukkah!, a jumble of songs pulled from a special episode of the Fox series The O.C., takes the fruitcake (or latke, or what have you). In only nine tracks, it establishes itself as a thoroughly modern, cynical, but likeably wide-eyed antidote to the heap of jingle-bell-heavy offerings currently crowding holiday music racks. Best thought of as a compilation cobbled together by a clear-headed, alt-minded friend, Chrismukkah, so named for the fictional Cohen family's seasonal culture-blending holiday, highlights a far-reaching lineup of indie favorites. Jimmy Eat World covers the Wham! classic "Last Christmas" with characteristic punch and panache, Eels chew into "Christmas Is Going to the Dogs" like they mean it, Leona Naess channels vintage Joni Mitchell on "Christmas", and the ever-understated Ron Sexmith dares to dream on "Maybe This Christmas." "Christmas with You Is the Best," cut exclusively for the soundtrack by the Long Winters, climbs through the Cohens' chimney to offer a firsthand glimpse of Chrismukkah in practice: you can practically smell the eggnog-flavored matzoh balls. --Tammy La Gorce

HASH(0xa73be060) out of 5 stars Great music, but too short. Dec 8 2004
By Hilary Thomson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
All in all, this is a great album - but there are a couple of critiques - namely the fact that no, there aren't any Hanukkah songs. The second critique is that at 28 minutes, it's over pretty soon.

The Christmas song by the Ravenettes is a pretty little starter; Last Christmas is a great cover of the Wham cover by Jimmy Eat World. Just like Christmas is soulful, poignant song about travelling. I thought Christmas is Going to the Dogs was kind of hoaky and annoying (by the Eels), but the Ron Sexsmith and Leona Naess songs at the end got this CD back in my good books.

Still, it's a nice shift from most of the pop junk out there. For someone who doesn't enjoy Mariah Carey singing about what she wants for Christmas, but would like a few modern songs to mix in with the traditional stuff, this is the best modern Christmas CD I've found yet.

Also, the CD has a CD-Rom feature that links you to a website where you can watch clips from the show and hear people talking about the music. While the Christmas clips weren't up yet, it's probably just because the episode hasn't aired yet.

HASH(0xa73be0b4) out of 5 stars Non-Traditional Dec 10 2004
By Mariann West - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If your looking for a non-traditional Christmas album, then this is a CD for you. I have always had a wide variety for music, but have never really been a huge rock fan. I loved this CD from the minute I popped it in, I knew I could listen to this music over and over and put a different spin on things. I actually felt inspired and pumped up by this music. For someone who usually prefers traditional, I just might start a new christmas trend. I do like The O.C. but you don't have to be an O.C. Fan to enjoy this CD. Enjoy!

HASH(0xa73be4ec) out of 5 stars Chrismukkah is a time for music Jan. 6 2005
By Web Footed Chicken - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Well good CD. As a casual observer of the show (my wife loves it) I found my feet tapping to both Chrismakkuh shows, and the CD lets you take a slice home with you.

But there was a notable omission that I had to go looking for. It is performed/named "Guster - Carol of Meows". No Chrismakkuh should be without this song, and it was a great let down that it wasn't included.

HASH(0xa73be8ac) out of 5 stars Charming holiday cd. Aug. 26 2005
By Not my real name - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Okay,at a mere 28 minutes long, this album is easy to criticize. However, that excepted, this is still a good album. It's charming and conjures up happy holiday thoughts.I think it's worth it just for the song "Maybe this Christmas".
