Product Description

Product Description

Music From The O.C.: Mix 2 builds on the success of early 2004's MIx 1 (160,000 copies scanned). Mix 2 boasts three exclusive tracks-Jem's cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Nada Surf's cover of OMD's "If You Leave," both recoreded specifically for the series, plus The Walkman's live "LIttle House of Savages." Focused on television's hottest prime demographic drama (more than 10 million mainly teen and young adult fans nightly), Music From the O.C.: Mix 2 features modern rock with an indie edge.

It's impossible to listen to Music From the O.C. Mix 2 without wondering what the 16 acts represented think of being associated with the show. These, after all, are largely the kind of too-cool-for-school indie bands-- Nada Surf, Death Cab for Cutie, Eels, Interpol--you'd normally expect to run screaming from anything so heavily soaked in mainstream reek. Credit the show's exceptional music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, then, with rounding them up and wrangling them into contributing, and also for choosing her selections carefully. More than a collection that would slip effortlessly into any hipster's car CD player for its left of the dial leanings, 2 showcases many of these emerging bands' best songs yet: The Thrills' "Big Sur" is a sun-soaked slice of pop heaven, "Maybe I'm Amazed" makes elegant use of a cover to capture the dreaminess of the darkly talented Jem, and "You Got Me All Wrong," by Dios Malos, is maybe the most ravishing rainy day rock song ever written. As with the first O.C. mix, 2 is enhanced with scenes from the show. Pop it into your computer and hum along as the drama unfolds; if anyone catches you, tell them it's the coolness of the music you're captivated by. -Tammy La Gorce

As if the O.C. wasn't as addictive as crack, now there's an equally as addictive soundtrack to go along with it.
Unreleased songs from Interpol. Live tracks by the Walkmen. Covers by Nada Surf. Glorious !

HASH(0x9c8fbbac) out of 5 stars An excellent end to the 1st season, and start of the 2nd! Nov. 21 2004
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com

I bought Mix 2 hoping for more of what I had loved from Mix 2. However, initially I was a little disappointed. It's a bit slower, and more mellow than the first mix- in my opinion anyway. However, I listened to it over the next week and it has definately grown on me!

Jem's gorgeous cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Nada Surf's cover of OMD's "If You Leave" were both recorded for the O.C- and I'm glad they did. (can't you just see poor old sad Seth when Anna leaves...)

Standout tracks are Interpol's "Specialist", Death Cab For Cutie's "A Lack Of Color", The Thrills' "Big Sur" The Walkmen's "Little House of Savages" (which was recorded live) and the Eel's "Saturday Morning" which kicks off the whole album.

Note: The Australian version has Evermore's "It's Too Late". Good track. Also, the lyrics in the case fold out to a nifty little poster- it's all very good. Althought, I was suprised at no Rooney, which would have been nice.

HASH(0xa0de887c) out of 5 stars not possible Jan. 24 2005

I don't want to review this cd, simply because I don't want it being bought. It's always great when your "secret" bands make money so they can make more albums you'll love, but when many many people are listening to them i'ts not the same. Despite all that I am putting my feelings aside and giving this album 5 stars. When my sister told me to check it out I was doubtful. When I saw the track listing I could have sworn it was one of my mixes. I couldn't believe a teen drama put Super Furry Animals on thier cd, a great interesting band. I've seen Interpol in concert and still adore them. Evey band and or artist on this mix is worth mentioning. Nada Surf, The Walkman, Eels, The Album Leaf, and of course Death Cab for Cutie are some of my very favorite bands. I am so proud of this T.V. show for exposing so many people music that is beautiful. I think I'll start watching the O.C. now, I hear a character has a Ben Folds poster in his room. Are we sure this is a T.V. Show?

HASH(0x9ca630e4) out of 5 stars Quality Album May 25 2005
By Brittany Rose - Published on Amazon.com

The second soundtrack in the OC series picks up right where the last one left off - about halfway through the first season. Don't get too excited about the fact this album has more tracks than the 1st one, each of the four soundtracks averages 12 songs per album (since the Chrismakkah album served up a paltry 9 songs).

This album is overall strong - with not a ton of standout tracks - but lots of great stuff to listen to.

The two covers, Nada Surf's "If You Leave" (from the episode where Anna leaves I believe) and Jem's "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney (from the season 1 finale) are excellent and worth listening to again and again - both do their own things with the songs, particularly Jem who does a rousing folk take on the original (albeit a little bit drawn out).

Quite a few of these songs actually reminded of one another, Keane's "Walnut Tree" and Dios Malos "You Got Me All Wrong", and Beulah's "Popular Mechanics for Lovers" channeled the vibe of a couple of other tracks.

There are a few slightly bigger name (yet still indie) acts on this disc - moreso then any of the other ones. Among them, the Walkmen do an almost U2-esque track called "Little House of Savages", and Super Furry Animals "Hello Sunshine" is a friendly reminder of Seth and Summer's 'first time' together. 90's alt-rock gods Eels offer the opening fun track "Saturday Morning", and current chart darlings The Killers serve up an awesome 80's-infused track (hopefully a future single) in "Smile Like You Mean It". Slightly less known (but loved by Seth Cohen & Adam Brody) band Death Cab For Cutie sings a sweet, mellow, track (like most of their music) entitled "A Lack of Colour" which I also believe is from the episode Anna leaves.

All together this is a great album - while I said some of the songs remind me of one another, and none of them truly just pop out (like on the 4th soundtrack), this is a cohesive blend of Indie tunes that each bring something unique to the table - whether it be their use of synthesizers, keyboards, acoustic guitars, or fun vocals & arrangements, this is one album not to be missed.

This is such an excellent music compilation that I felt compelled to write a little something about it on Amazon. The O.C. Mix 2 has such a good variety of independent singers/songs and I have to say that I really like just about every song on the CD. If you're tired of the pop rock you hear on the radio and are looking for something a little deeper, a little more alternative, a little edgier, with genuine feeling and emotion, this is your cd. My favorites are "Trouble Sleeping" (the Perishers), "Smile Like You Mean It" (The Killers), and "Maybe I'm Amazed" (Jem), but really, I like them all, and there are so few cd's to say that about. Josh Schwartz and the O.C.'s music supervisor have done such a great job getting all these artists on the mix cd. I think that the O.C. will continue getting praise not only for being a witty, sharp, funny, touching comedy/drama but also for showcasing some really great music.

I really like this album. All the songs in the album make a special blend , and they really represent what the oc is about.

I love the 80's song If you leave my OMD and i love the cover of the song, by the band Nada Surf, its really really great. They only song that it's missing, is the wonderwall cover from the st. valentines episode, but besides that it a great album. It has a really cool mix of modern, retro vibe. =) If you are a fan of the show , its a mUst!! =P
