Tegan Hughes joins Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot on tour, and drummer Bryn isn't the only one who notices his little sister isn't a kid anymore.

English rock star Jax Lewis is the guitarist for Ruby Riot and the band are rising to success. He's hot property and loving every minute of his new found fame. Now, he's on tour supporting Blue Phoenix and living his rock star life to the full. Until Tegan walks into his world and puts the brakes on.

Tegan Hughes is taking a year out and has her sights set on touring Europe with her big brother's band. Blue Phoenix drummer, Bryn isn't happy when his sister arrives unannounced at his hotel in Lisbon, but Tegan isn't the type of person to take no as an answer.

With her big brother breathing down their necks, Jax and Tegan attempt to keep a handle on their growing attraction but that proves harder than they thought. Tegan doesn't want to be the sexy rocker's latest conquest but Jax is used to getting whoever and whatever he wants. And after kissing Tegan once, he knows one thing...he wants more.

Tegan isn't rock star girlfriend material. She has ambitions of her own and refuses to let anything stand in the way of her plans. But when Jax and Tegan's relationship becomes public knowledge life becomes a hell of a lot more complicated.

Definitely not your average rock star romance, Cadence is about the contrast and connection between two strong characters who don't have a dark past and are determined to make sure their future is bright.

Having grown up alongside her rock star brother and the rest of his band, Tegan isn't a starry-eyed groupie looking to hook up with anyone. I loved her strength of character - even when her stubbornness drove her to deny what happened at that particular party - as it definitely makes her a heroine to remember.

Now a right d*ckhead at times. Born to be a rock star, or so it seems, he's got his heart set on the future and all the perks that come with it. However, he's never really experienced disappointment or loss and his view of women is...dated, and not in a good way. In order to get the girl, he has to grow up a bit and make some important decisions, or risk losing everything.

This is a fun story - a tug-of-war for an equal relationship between two characters who have all the chemistry...but the timing's all wrong. Though this book does have a traditional romance ending, I'd be interested to see how Tegan and Jax fare in the future.

Five stars. No question.

HASH(0x9be96960) out of 5 stars Another AMAZING Rocker Romance from Lisa! Nov. 2 2015
By Jennifer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Received ARC in exchange for honest review.
Cadence is the first book in the Ruby Riot series. This series follows the lives of the band members of Ruby Riot while they rise to fame. Cadence intertwines with the Blue Phoenix series also written by Lisa Swallow. Cadence is a story of passion, heartbreak, redemption, and compromise. Lisa Swallow did an amazing job writing each of the characters. They each have their own personalities that seem to come to life outside the book and in your mind.
Cadence is about Jax, the lead guitarist of Ruby Riot, and Tegan, the little sister of Bryn who is the drummer for Blue Phoenix. Tegan is young and adventurous. She wants to travel the world and experience new things, much to the dismay of her older brother, Bryn. When she shows up on tour with Blue Phoenix, Bryn isn’t the only one who is effected. Jax is enjoying his rise to fame. Women, Alcohol, and performing is all he lives for. When he meets Tegan, he sees a challenge, but will he be able to rise to it?
Jax and Tegan are written beautifully. Tegan is my favorite character. She is strong willed and feisty and stands her ground. While she overacts at some points, most of the time she is level headed and tries to compromise. I love that she knows what she wants and she is not willing to let anyone boss her around. She knows she is an adult and is fighting for others to feel the same. Jax is a good character as well. She is cocky and arrogant, but this leaves room for plenty of character development. I think that has a lot going on in his head that is revealed over the story. I love that these two interact. I think their interactions are entertaining, especially in the beginning of the book.
Lisa Swallow is a gifted writer. She has a remarkable way of making the reader feel like they are actually in the characters head and experiencing the same situations as the character. It takes a noteworthy author to be able to make a reader feel heartbreak and love through the characters eyes. This is the reason I continue to come back and read Lisa’s books. I know I will not be disappointed in the writing style. She knows where she wants to go with the story, and she leads readers down the same path.
If you are looking for a book with a lot of heat, then this is your book. Lisa did not skimp on the intimate scenes. With that being said, these scenes happened in a realistic way and felt organic to the story. Not one of these scenes felt like they were placed there just because the book did not contain enough heat. I feel like this also adds to the characters as the whole book is not just about sex. Readers are able to see a physical attraction, but we are lead down the road to exploring the results of when physical and emotional attraction combine.
Overall, I loved this book. I did not find a single aspect of the book I did not like. We were able to see plenty of the characters, while also being introduced to other minor characters. The intertwining of the Ruby Riot and Blue Phoenix series is a good way for readers of the Blue Phoenix series to get updates on their favorite characters. I also feel like it was a good way to introduce the new band, which will all have their own books. I would recommend to anyone who loves a good rock star romance. .=]

HASH(0x9c619b58) out of 5 stars Ah to be young & in love again!! Nov. 2 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
Cadence is the 1st book in Lisa swallow's new series which is a spin off from her legendary Blue Pheonix series.
Tegan is the little sister of Bryn one of the Blue Pheonix boys. Although she has lead a relatively sheltered life as far as the lives of rock stars go, she is feisty and independent & when she decides she is joining the Blue Pheonix/Ruby Riot tour, there is nothing anyone can do to stop her.
Jax is a member of Ruby Riot & is just learning how to live like a rock star. He doesn't want anything to hold him back, including any women.
Then he meets Tegan & it is made clear to him that she is off limits. Their story Is fast, crazy, sweet & one hell of a wild ride!!

Lisa Swallow writes about rock stars in a way that draws you in & leaves you wanting more. With Tegan & Jax she has found the perfect balance of a young immature couple who are fighting to be together in the face of adversity & disapproval. No matter what age group you belong to you can easily relate to that.
I actually really wanted to dislike Jax but I couldn't. I think he was the mature one in the relationship & kept Tegan on an even keel. He looks out for her only ever wants what is best for her. Tegan initially comes off as a demanding teenager living in a woman's body that wants what she wants, and she wants it now! As the story progresses she significantly matures & by the end you cant help but like her & want her to get her happy ending.
That's what I like most about Lisa Swallows writing style, the place they start the story in an emotional sense is never the same place they end the story in. Her characters are complex and flawed & this makes them easy to relate to & easy to fall in love with.

I absolutely loved this book & recommend it to anyone who wants to revisit the young and in love feeling. It is a great story with loveable characters written by an extremely talented author that uses her words to weave a spell around your heart giving you a story that keeps you on your toes & leaves you feeling refreshed and happily entertained!!

HASH(0x9c0f4fb4) out of 5 stars A fresh new rock romance, that will have you wanting more!! 5 Stars!! Nov. 2 2015
By Louise Seraphim Reviews - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Cadence is book 1 in the Ruby Riot series, and the spin off series from the hugely popular and addictive Blue Phoenix series.
In Cadence we follow lead guitarist and Ruby Riot eye candy, Jax. Ruby Riot are starting to climb up the Rock Star ladder, and have the most amazing job of being a follow up act for Blue Phoenix on their European tour. Which means we also get glimpses of the Blue Phoenix boys in this book too!!

Leading lady this time is the feisty, spirited, and totally independant younger sister of Blue Phoenix drummer Bryn, Tegan.
Tegan is gorgeous, and knows what she wants, not only is she cashing in on the promise big brother Bryn made her, to join a Blue Phoenix tour when she was old enough, but she is also continuing her passion for travelling, and getting to see some of Europe. Well, she was until she bumped into rock's latest pin up, Jax Lewis.

As much as Tegan wants to avoid getting into anything, withany men on this opportunity of a lifetime. She soon realises, Jax is not just any man. He is incredibly hard to resist, and once he realises Tegan is not like all the other girls, and someone he actually wants to get to know, not just get in her pants, Jax is prepared to pull out all the stops to try and get her.

As suited as this couple is, and as much as the chemistry sizzles between them. Things are inevitably going to turn a little crazy. Jax is hot property now, and not everyone agrees with him choosing to spend his time with just 1 girl. Cue the ugly side of the rock star life.

Cadence is a perfect example of trying to make something work, when obstacles are thrown left, right, and centre. But Jax and Tegan are determined to crush them, and prove they can be together despite the obstacles. But the journey to get there is a little crazy, and things get a bit too much at certain points.

Well for someone who doesn't actually read Rock Romance books, and can count on 1 hand how many she has read, and most of those are the same author, I have to say this series really is for everyone. Not only did author Lisa Swallow crack it with the addictive Blue Phoenix, and had everyone drooling over one of the four gods of the stage, she has now shown she can bring it again, with a younger fresh band. Different issues, obstacles, personalities, and egos. She can handle them all, and have everyone addicted all over again. I don't normally follow the rock star stories, but this is one author I will read absolutely anything by, because she can make any subject entertaining and gripping. Have you coming back for more, and drooling over long hair, even when you don't find long hair attractive!! Her writing is that good!

As this is book 1 in a new and fresh series, it's not absolutely necessary (in my opinion) to have read the Blue Phoenix series first. It helps, but it's not a must. If you haven't read them, and decide to start Cadence, believe me you will soon be hunting out the other series. These characters and their lives are completely addictive, you will even want to read about the random stranger in the back of the tour, just because you have to read everything from this world!

Definitely go check this out today. It's intense, funny, sexy and will leave you wanting more!!
5 huge stars!

I started reading this series way back when and I ALMOST didn't bother to finish the first book and I cringe to think of what I almost missed. Nowadays, I get this weird heart palpitation whenever a new book in this series comes out. Oddly enough, I was saving this one for some reason, but once I got reading, the rest of my life got put on hold. This book is as good as all the others; each one has its own voice and each character has their own personal list of issues, making every book a strong competitor for the likes of Kristen Ashley or Nora Roberts. What makes Lisa Swallow's books really 'sing' are the details: each has its own unique writing style, interesting plot lines, characters, scenery and comedy to call it's own.
Better still, these are not today's usual "hey I wrote 20 pages of crap, give me three dollars" books all over the net, nor are they the "to be continued - after you've refinanced your house to finish the 462 little bits I've teased you with along the way". No my dears, this a serious author who does real editing (instead of hoping WordPerfect got everything), and she puts real thought into making a story worthy of your time (and your three dollars). Even better, if you check her webby thingy she gives bunches of her writing stuff away for FREE (ummmmm, WHAT?!?! What is this "free" of which you speak? Look it up ladies, it's spectacular).
Okay, in conclusion, get reading Lisa Swallow''s books. Like now. They are entertaining, funny, sexy, inspired and they got that whole 'free' thing going on, so it don't get much better than that! I seriously doubt Amazon needs any more of your money (Barnes & Noble I'm not so sure about). Now quit reading my drivel and get downloading this fab series!!!
p.s.: (Lisa only please): Lisa, Sweetie, if you ever quit writing rockstar romances, I may have to save up money, buy a plane ticket and come to your house where I will promptly clean, do all your laundry, make a year's worth of meals and sort your mail. I figure it's better than kicking your ass, but if you still refuse keep my books going, I may go to plan B. Thank you Dearest. Toodles!

HASH(0x9c1cec78) out of 5 stars Cadence delivers a loud, in your face, fun (and a little bumpy) romance Nov. 10 2015
By Michelle@Book Briefs - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Cadence is the first book in a new adult series, called the Ruby Riot series. Ruby Riot series is a rock star romance that is a spin off of the Blue Phoenix series. I have not yet read the Blue Phoenix series, but I absolutely love love love how the author worked the spin off series in. Ruby Riot is a newer rock band on their way up the charts, and they are touring with the hugely popular Blue Phoenix. And if that isn't a cool enough tie-in, Cadence brings together the two rock groups from the separate series together via Blue Phoenix's drummer Bryn's younger sister Tegan joining the tour. And guess who she has her eye on? That's right- Jax of Ruby Riot. I thought that was a really, really inventive way to both tie together two different series, but keep them separate enough that they have no problem standing on their own.

Tegan is her own woman. She speaks her mind and has no problem holding her own with anyone. I loved that about her. I didn't know quite how it was going to mesh with Jax. Rock stars are used to getting what they want, and it seemed like so was Tegan. And I was right, there are so many battles of the dominant personalities (in different ways) in Cadence, it was kind of fun to read. Jax was half infuriating, half adorable, and gosh darnnit if I didn't love him for that.

I don't read a ton of rocker romances, but when I am looking for something bold and in your face, I love to pick up a rock star book to get my fix. And this was a larger than life read. It was a little bit of a cliche with all of the parties, drinks sex and rock and roll, but that isn't really a bad thing. It was what I wanted when I look to this kind of story fix. However, If you like slower build romances that are not quite so crazy, this might not be the genre for you. Cadence was fast paced, and totally fun the whole way. I felt like I was on the road alongside Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot. And just like any tour, there are twists and turns and surprise potholes waiting for you along the way. Cadence makes me want to go back and grab all the Blue Phoenix series novels and get to know the band a little bit better.

Bottom Line: If you love rock star romance and you are looking for a loud, in your face fun (and a little bumpy) romance, check out The Ruby Riot series. Cadence delivers.
