"Overall the book is good. I am getting bored in the gym so am going to give this book a try. I had never heard of calisthenics and I'm hoping they will help me tone up. The book has lots of bodyweight exercises with good exercise descriptions and photos. I've done burpees before and I hate them lol. There are various workouts included, I'm to start the beginner workout tomorrow." - Catherine Keys

I felt this book was a fairly easy book to understand even for beginners. I liked how everything is explained but not aggressively thrown at you. It makes it less aggressive. I have coached recreational gymnastics for 14 years and picked up this book to help me inspire my athletes but in turn have been inspired to start exercising again. Thanks!

Le pire livre sur la méthode calisthenic. Ne parle en rien des méthodes d'entraînement et progression d'exercices. C'est un ramassis d'informations prit un peu partout combiné sans logique. J'ai sincèrement jeté 6$ au vidange. Quel insulte!

HASH(0xa6146c18) out of 5 stars buy this in hardcopy if you can!! Feb. 26 2015

Wow. I just finished this book and guess what? I’m impressed. Most of these types of books put me to sleep but not this one. I would consider buying this book in hardback because I think it’s really well written.

This book is like two books in one! The nutritional chapters are better than some nutritional ebooks I’ve read!

I have bad knees, so I would never get the full benefit out of a gym membership. I’m so glad I ran into this book! I highly recommend the body weight exercises because a) I have everything I need to start NOW b) it won’t cost me anything!! c) I have started following these exercises in my living room! I appreciate the included workouts. I like how I can modify some of them. Hey, I’m not Arnold, so it will take me some time to work up to some of them but I can do it! They are presented WITH VIDEO LINKS to insure that they are done correct!! I’m 45, and I’m working out already!! Using my own body to exercise is much easier on my knees. I take my time. I guess the best part is the extra pounds don’t get in the way when I workout either!! lol.

This book is pretty! The illustrations capture exactly what the author intends, not to confuse the reader. Good info!! It explains all of the exercises in plain english!!

I can’t go on enough about this book. I’ve been an avid reader for some time, and even the smallest mistakes in grammar irritate me. I’m happy to say I can honestly recommend this book to anybody that is looking for a change in themselves like me this year.

Understanding my body and how it works allows me to want to work out. I want to improve my core strength, my endurance, with the help of calisthenics.

I hope this review pumps you up to buy this ebook and/or hard copy because let’s face it… money is scarce these days. I assure you this is a quality product and you will be pleased. -Mike

HASH(0xa4d82714) out of 5 stars Excellent Resource! Feb. 25 2015

As a middle-aged, sedentary woman living in a rural community with brutal winters, and the closest gym almost an hour away, I was looking for a way to become healthier without having to drive a long distance or buy bulky equipment. Having injured myself in a gym, I've avoided "working out" for years, but recently my lack of physical activity has taken its toll. I wanted to reintroduce simple, safe exercise into my life, and with my fear of injury, calisthenics seemed like the best choice. Thus, I picked up this book, because of its focus on bodyweight exercise. I'm glad I did! It was very easy to read, has valuable (and sensible) information about diet, detailed workout programs for everyone (including a couch potato like me), and also (most importantly) clear photographs of every exercise, so I can do them correctly. I have a long way to go to get back in shape. But I've taken my first step to a healthier lifestyle, and thanks to this book, I know what to do next. Excellent resource.

HASH(0xa4e64c30) out of 5 stars Too shy for the gym? Excellent book on calisthenics (with diet info and pics!) Feb. 25 2015

I needed a Kindle book with examples of exercises I could do on my own without equipment. Progressive Calisthenics really delivered. All of the exercise use your own body and natural resistance to burn fat or tone and build muscle. They’re split up into basic and advanced exercises, and the author provides several different routines aimed at people with different fitness levels. (There’s even a special “couch potato” routine for exercising during commercials—which is probably perfect for me right now. haha)

What really surprised me is how far into the book you read before hitting the exercise info. First, the author walks you through a lot of excellent information on how to make the most of calisthenics, including a big section on diet. He also helps you figure out how long it will take for you to see results.

Some of the info you’ll have heard elsewhere, but there were a few things that surprised me—like calorie intake being based off of lean weight, not your scale weight, or how potatoes aren’t a healthy carb. There are pictures of what a good diet looks like, so you get real examples instead of just general info. I was surprised by all of the practical advice, and I liked the format.

There’s a lot of science and even some history to read through, but it all helps explain things, so keep reading. Eventually you’ll get to the diet and exercise portions and be happy you did.

HASH(0xa676cf00) out of 5 stars Great Starting Book for Calisthenics Feb. 25 2015

I really like this ebook. It's full of color images that help describe sometimes complex topics, like the "6 Degrees of Freedom". I found the section on the negative effects of sitting for long periods informative since I have a job where I sit most of the day. Every exercise has a photo or graphic that shows how to do it properly. I'd recommend this book to anyone getting into calisthenics.

HASH(0xa4fc7114) out of 5 stars During my childhood I was led to believe that eating certain things was bad for my health Feb. 26 2015

Managing my weight has always been a problem for me. During my childhood I was led to believe that eating certain things was bad for my health. In addition I was never encouraged to burn calories thru exercise. I always have lived a sedentary life.
After reading Powers book, named Calisthenics: The 20 minutes…. I now have a much better understanding of nutrition and exercise. Most importantly, because I don’t have the money or the time to be joining gyms or expensive diets that come pre-packaged., this book has provided me with all the knowledge I need in order to work out from home and to eat the right meals in the correct portions. The book explains with simplicity the effects of applied calisthenics in the body.

I luckily downloaded this book in my Amazon cloud reader device instead of my regular kindle. I was really impressed with the format of the book. It has great images. The pictures of different bodyweight exercises make it easier for me to understand how to execute them. Even better, the links work very well. The book even has links to videos. I felt the book was quite interactive.
