This is indeed a very nice kit. First, the Raspberry Pi itself is a very nice and versatile computer, at an incredibly low price. The preloaded OS on the SD card worked like a charm, no problem. The case is a snug fit, perfect. In my case though, I did not close it because I need access to the GPIO port. Under Raspbian, the wifi dongle worked almost directly. However, I had to change one of my router setting for it to work (for some reason, I cannot hide the SSID of the wireless network for it to work). The breadboard is cheap, and it is way too hard to plug in something (wires will bend instead of entering the holes!). I did not use the discrete components yet.

This is a great package with a decent price even if you don't need the DIY electronics bits. I have two rpi model model B's I ordered internationally before, so it is nice to be able to get one from a domestic distributor. The B+ is definitely an improvement in terms of the power system and form factor -- micro SD that doesn't stick out, more USB jacks, etc., and all the plugs are on two sides, which means if you put it in a larger enclosure you don't need room for stuff jutting out of all four. The case this comes with is nicer than I expected. While not as pretty as some, it looks fine and combines things I haven't found all together in other cases: easy access to the GPIO and camera headers, easy slip over screw mount holes on the bottom, easy to snap together and take apart but still sturdy. That, plus the SD card and power supply (which you need), make this pretty close to worth it as is. Throwing in a wifi adapter, GPIO cable + breakout, HDMI cable, breadboard & trinkets put the value over the top. They even have their own glossy quick reference card for the GPIO pins. Very nicely thought out. The little heat sinks seemed a bit strange since they are unnecessary (even overclocked a bit), but hey -- I can always turn them into cufflinks ;)

I own two raspberry pi model b's already, but since they are tied up in a home security system, I figured I would get a B+ to play around with for some other projects. These CanaKit's are great. The kit includes the raspberry pi, as well as a lot of the accessories needed to use the pi. Included in the kit are LEDs, resistors, switches, jumper wires, a breadboard for prototyping, an SD card preloaded with NOOBS, wifi dongle, wall adapter, IDE cable, and a breakout board to use for prototyping on the breadboard. The model B+ has two additional USB ports, and some upgraded hardware (I won't go into too much detail about the board its self because lets face it, you've probably already read all about it, or you should have anyways). The whole kit together is great for anyone who is a beginner with raspberry pi's and also anyone who wants to purchase everything needed in one convenient kit. I would highly recommend this kit

I was originally captivated by the promise of a Linux based PC for only $35-. In reality this is too good to be true as resellers need to make a profit to stay in business. By the time you add in the cost of a power supply, SD card, case, HDMI cable and wireless N USB adapter, the cost more than doubles the cost of the board. No surprise there. So, to pay $90 may seem like a lot at first, but it is a bargain if you don't have these items already.

I'm presently using this as a music server. I placed our 20K+ tracks on two 64gb thumb drives via the two Pi USB sockets. Works like a charm (no need for a powered hub). Granted, selecting playlists is a bit slow but the music plays flawlessly with no glitches even when streaming different music to two devices at the same time. Overall, I was so pleased with the results, I ordered a second kit to convert an antique replica radio to a squeezelite player.

Some components may end up unused, but ordering this kit provides lots of flexibility for future experimentation. So if you like to tinker, this kit is for you.
