Product Description

About the Author

Carol Ferguson reviewed more than 15,000 recipes to select only the best for The Canadian Living Cookbook. The selection process was for her a sentimental journey through the many years of wonderful food stories she has worked with a s food editor of Canadian Living.

In addition to selecting, revising, retesting and commissioning new recipes for this cookbook, Carol also contributed many of her own recipes. Carol and her colleagues Elizabeth Baird, Bonnie Baker Cowan, Margaret Fraser, Anne Lindsay, Beth C. Moffatt, Rose Murray, Kay Spicer, Bonnie Stern and Lucy Waverman are the ten outstanding food writers whose work is featured here. All of them have created and developed their own recipes in their own distinctive styles.

This is the first Canadian Living Cookbook I purchased and I still use these recipes 20 years later. The Wildberry Strusel is a real hit. The curry recipes are simple to make yet incredibly delicious and flavorful. You will have authentic Indian dishes I promise you. What is most important is the recipes ALWAYS turn out beautifully. Obviously the recipes have been tested well. I highly recommend this book for the novice and expert cook alike.

If I could only have one cookbook this would be the one I would choose. My husband "recycled" my original copy by mistake-I am so happy to have received my second hand copy in the mail just the other day. He will be happy not to hear me moan about "the unfortunate incident" any longer. I can't wait to make some of my old favourites and I also plan to try some new recipes as well. Honestly, everything I have tried from this cookbook gets rave reviews. Best cookbook in the world - Canadian Living should consider reprinting it.

I bought this book for myself back when it first came out. Years later I have the same dog eared, stained book in the kitchen. It falls open to the recipes I use most! I bought a new one for each of my children as they left home and they swear by it too. Basic food from accessible ingredients and useful charts (Meat cooking chart, Jam/preserve charts). Amazing publication.

As an American I wanted to learn more about Canada so I purchased a copy of Canadian Living magazine back in the early 1980s. I loved what I read so I subscribed. Later I purchased the Canadian Living Cookbook and I learned more about Canada. I made scones, lemon curd and Maid of Honor Tarts from recipes found in this cookbook. All were served for afternoon tea and were well received. You can tell these recipes were tested until perfect and they are dependable.

In fact, almost every recipe prepared from this cookbook has been a keeper. By-the-way the recipes work with US cups and measures as I don't have the Canadian equivalents.

Highly recommend.

I have had this book for a few years. It is my main reference cookbook. It has great soups, baking, main dish meals that are not difficult to make. The instructions are clear and well written.

This cookbook has the absolute best recipes for brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Iwon't use any other recipe for those 2 things. My sister also uses the butter tart recipe.

This has been my go to cook book since i received it as a wedding gift 27 years ago. Minestrone soup, banana bread, sweet and sour short ribs and lemon squares are all our family favorites. this is easy to follow and each recipe turns out perfectly. Best basic cook book I have ever seen. My copy is falling apart so I will be replacing it with a new one.

I owned this book before it was "borrowed" by one of my daughters. I really did miss many of the recipes so decided to get another one for myself--and hide it! it was in great condition when it arrived (I bought it second hand as it is out of print) and i realize how much I missed it. This is such a good and comprehensive cook book.
