It's Your Choice: LCD or Optical Viewfinder

Optical Viewfinder

The PowerShot A1300 digital camera gives you a choice that's getting increasingly hard to find on digital cameras today. It's equipped with an Optical Viewfinder in addition to the LCD screen. Many photographers prefer this classic, familiar option that lets you simply hold the camera to your eye and shoot.

The camera's big, bright LCD screen gives you a wealth of important information about the shot. However, using it to compose and focus requires that you hold the camera away from your body. Many people do this with one hand, arms away from the body, effectively creating camera shake that can distort a shot. Using the Optical Viewfinder helps ensure that the camera is held steady. The great thing is that from shot to shot, whether you use the Optical Viewfinder or LCD screen is your choice.

This camera is one of the few available with a visual viewfinder. For those of us who have issues with the LED display screen in bright light it's a great feature. This camera performs well, and has some great features. Photos are crisp and clear and zoom function is smooth. It is pretty durable, and so far has survived being dropped, splashed and taken out to the barn daily. I count on a camera in this price range to last me about 2 years. (I am very hard on cameras as I use them daily in barns with animals). Video recording is of surprisingly good quality. A better than expected camera for the money.

The quality of the pictures is fabulous. Although the camera was described as Windows XP compatible I could not get the pics to download into the camera software. I spent a great deal of time trying to get it to work by deleting and re-installing, etc. repeatedly. I was having some renos done to my house and wanted to track the progress for friends online. I was very disappointed and finally called the help number at Canon. I was told that XP sometimes won't work and he told me how to do it with Windows. So until I buy a new computer I guess that is how it will be. I had always had Olympus cameras in the past and my latest (14 months old) had died so thought I would try Canon. The whole experience was extremely frustrating.

I have got this little camera for a very special purpose: Taking photos through a telescope. It is light weighted and can easily be fixed on the camera adapter which is attached to the telescope. Pictures are taken at infinite position through the eyepiece of the telescope. Tho optics of the camera are from my point of view excellent. I got some great moon pictures and star pictures as well. The minus is that you can only set a time at night sky mode from 1 to 15 seconds. Faster shutter speeds are not manually available. What works good enough for the moon, is a little problem for the planets where you would like let's say 1/10 of a second and you do not get it. But it still needs some practice to take pictures and maybe I will figure things out. I have to admit that making photos through a telescope was sure not the target of the company when making this camera. And so I have to say you get still a lot of features with this little thing. An optical viewfinder, a quite good monitor, a 5 times OPTICAL zoom (corresponding to 28 - 140 mm) and additionally a four times digital zoom. There is a digital image stabilizer offered, which is not as good as an optical one it but still might help under low light conditions.

Hi There
I am not impress with this camera. It worked fine for the first 2 weeks. Now it does not take pictures at all. I made all kind of attemps to contact Canon's support team to mention this but to no avail. I hope you can help me to try to get this fixed.

I bought this camera for my trip to Mexico a week ago. I have other cameras but wanted something that was light and had a
view finder with a digital camera. With extremely bright sunshine, the camera's view finder was ideal.
The quality of the pictures is very good.
For the price and features of this camera, it is an excellent buy !

Picked this camera up on sale, didn't know how good it would be for the price. But I'm really impressed with what this camera can do. Excellent pictures, easy to use and you have a choice of fully automatic or manual and many other features. The fully automatic is nice, just point and the camera adjusts all settings instantly..good for quick shots. When using a good size card you can get almost 2 hrs of recording and it's good quality video. The instant record for video is a bonus, just click and your recording. I've had a Powershot awhile back and loved it (got broken), bought a few different brands over the years ( not overly impressed with them ) but when I got this camera I remembered why I liked the first one so much. Nothing but Canon from now on! If your looking for a decent camera that takes quality photos at good price..Look no won't be disappointed.

This is my fourth Canon camera. The first lived through a fall and although it had a dint here and there, it kept right on giving me good shots. My second was my first digital. I loved it, until it died - something about the lens. I bought a new one and it lasted for a few years and then refused to hold a charge. One picture and then it needed a new set of batteries. I bought this one, the A1300 cause its specs were better than the last one and it was inexpensive (I am tired of buying cameras that don't last). I find that this one sucks if you are trying to take a shot of something that might move. In trying to take a shot of a cute moment with my puppies, by the time the camera is ready to take the shot the puppies are gone or in a state of movement.
Personnally, I am sorry I bought this particular model.
