From director Brad Silberling and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment comes a live-action fun house ride filled with laughter, excitement and ghostly surprises. "Ghost therapist" Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) arrive at drafty, old Whipstaff Manor. Its greedy owner, Carrigan Crittendon (Cathy Moriarty), has hired Dr. Harvey to exorcise the house's apparitions: a friendly but lonely young ghost named Casper, who's just looking for a friend, and his outrageous uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso (The Ghostly Trio). If the plan works, she and Dibs (Eric Idle), her partner-in-slime, can get their hands on the manor's fabled treasure. Meanwhile, Casper has found a kindred spirit in Kat, but The Ghostly Trio will not tolerate "fleshies" in their house. With hilarious antics and dazzling special effects from many of the creators of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Jurassic Park, Casper is a mile-a-minute adventure comedy for the whole family.

For instance, had this been a foreign film I am sure we'd have the story from Casper's POV.
So, instead we get an audience POV from the Kat character to make it more mainstream.
The film is very uneven but what can you expect from a movie based on a cartoon ghost?
The film does have a charm to it that works if you allow it to.
The gags are numerous but they mostly miss their intended target.
The actors are fairly entertaining when they need to be such as Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci.
The visual effects are quite decent but they toon-looking ghosts and the human reality makes it a strange spectacle.
I think the film would have worked had the Carrigan story been excised and it was just a father and daughter encountering a haunted house with spirits.
It's a strange movie for sure.
it is one of the better kids movies made in the past 30 years.
As someone who enjoyed this film on LaserDisc (which was excellent A/V quality), I was pleased to see and hear the A/V had stood the test-of-time and delivers with current films.
The sound was mixed at the Skywalker Ranch by the best, Gary Rydstrom, with beautiful music by James Horner, and with the then 1995-state-of-the-art CGI effects (year after Jurassic Park) raising the bar for CG created (lead) character, still holds up to today films (with CGI). Along with great performances by the leads (Christini Ricci, Bill Pullman, Eric Idle, Cathy Moriarty) makes this a perfect film!!! Highly Recommend this film
This is great entertainment!
If you have a high end TV, then you will want this flick to show it off!
The colors and detail are simply outstanding!
Sound quality is also top notch!
So glad I pick this up due to others reviews!
I like Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci.
I like the special effects and even the kids can watch this one.
It's one I will watch again.
I would recommend it to a friend.
