Death, Life, or Love—Unbounded Always Play for Keeps

There are only two ways to kill Unbounded, and fire isn’t one of them—as law school dropout Erin Radkey learns the hard way. By fluke of a recessive gene, she has become Unbounded, a nearly immortal being with paranormal abilities.

Erin’s Change separates her from her loved ones and alters everything she believes to be true. A week earlier she was considering a marriage proposal; now she contemplates the best way to stay alive. Caught in a battle between two Unbounded groups, the Emporium and the Renegades, she is also hunted by a secret mortal society sworn to eradicate the Unbounded gene.

As Erin plunges into this dangerous new life, she must carve out her own place in the madness, protect her mortal family, and decide which group she should join. Her unique ability is vital to both groups in the race to secure an identification software that spells death for all Unbounded—or enslavement for the entire mortal world. Some will stop at nothing to use Erin as one more pawn in a battle that has spanned centuries. Erin’s undeniable attraction to Ritter Langton, whose family was massacred by opposing Unbounded two hundred and forty years ago, complicates her choices. There are no second chances. Death, life, or love—Unbounded always play for keeps.

Non-stop action, terrifying consequences, and powerful romance make The Change an exciting addition to the world of romantic urban fantasy.

Praise for the UNBOUNDED series:

“Excellent and well written!”
“I recommend reading the entire series”
“Thoroughly enjoyable”
“High action and adventure”
“Teyla Branton belongs right alongside Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Estep, and Kelly Armstrong.”

Erin Radkey hovers between life and death after a horrific car accident and fire when she is spirited away and another body is left in her place. The Renegades have taken her away because they have discovered that she is one of the Unbounded. She has one of the genes that allows her body to heal itself and age so slowly that she almost seems immortal.

Life used to be simple. Now Erin has been ripped away from the family she loves and pulled into a war she never knew existed. The Renegades battle with the Emporium, Unbounded who want to be in control of all those with the Unbounded gene, Both of these factions defend themselves against the Hunters, mortals that want to rid the world of all Unbounded and will do anything to stop them.

The Change had so many plot twists it almost had my head spinning. It was a very enjoyable romantic suspense novel. The plot twists were not outlandish, they made sense, they could have happened the way the author laid them out.

I found the gifts the Unbounded had because of special gene interesting too. What an advantage that would be. Some of them seemed like super powers in a sense. Kind of makes you wonder where the gene really came from originally - aliens or natural mutation? Maybe we'll find out in future sequels.

The romantic aspects of this novel were enjoyable also. They were a little racy, but still clean. Very well done. Profanity has been kept to a minimum in this book as well. Thank you Ms. Branaton!

I thought the character development was well done. We got to know Erin quite well in this novel. We've had an opportunity to see her a wide variety of her emotions. Her character has depth.

I pretty much read a book a night and I'm telling you - this is a good book! I honestly did have "a hard time putting it down". I will be continuing on with the set, which is not a common practice with me. An action reserved only for the best. ;). I'm also thinking that this would make a great movie! hope Ms Branton writes many, many more stories!

I only bought this book because it was free and I almost didn't read it but I did and I surprised myself with how good I found it. What uniqueness for the characters and I second-guessed myself about what was happening a lot. Buy it! - You won't be disappointed! Totally a book I wouldn't mind my children reading too (as they get older into teenage years)

The Change is a promising start to a new(for me) urban fantasy series. The main premise is that there exists among us mortals people who live incredibly long lifetimes and don't age. They are the Unbounded. There exists two warring factions of Unbounded, as well as a group of humans who are aware these Unbounded exist and strive to kill them all. They are The Hunters. The unbounded are not necessarily evil. One group of them, The Renegades, are the good guys and try to live peacefully among all the groups.
This book is the first book of a series that tells the tales of these groups. It is well written, very engaging and I found it a fast intense read. I heartily re omens this book and will buy into the series.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is well written and well edited. I like the characters and the plot, which was very original. I am also grateful that it had a proper ending. Another thing I appreciated was that, although there was some violence, the author avoids what I find distasteful in many modern novels, dependence on endless scenes of graphic violence and bloodshed. I think this is the main reason I am giving it five stars.
The author also has a good handle on people's feelings and emotions; they come across as very realistic.

I quite enjoyed this book! I was drawn into the story right from the beginning, and as is true with many good stories, what started as a bedtime read, kept me up at all hours wanting to read "just a little more". Erin's struggle with every new aspect of her change was well written and I felt many times during this book that I could imaging seeing her story unfold on a big screen version of this tale.

It is very well written with good character development & there are many surprises along the way.
It is one of those books that you think " just one more chapter & I will go to bed " & you realize it's 3 am
I am looking forward to the next books & happy to have found a new author I can enjoy

Loved this book, buying the next one in the series as soon as I'm done writing this review. Fell in love with Erin and can't wait to read more about the budding romances, and newly unbounded characters. Strong heroine, right mix of action, fantasy, suspense, and romance :)
