Product Description

Four worlds that cannot be visited.
Four worlds that must be visited.

Aliens are spying on Earth from one of the four worlds that make up the Warden Diamond. But it is impossible to send agents to any of the four worlds because of unique microscopic symbionts that make it impossible for visitors to leave the Diamond.

Seeking a unique solution, each of the four worlds making up the Diamond is sent a person whose mind has been stripped of everything and who is now controlled by an agent of the Confederacy.

Park Lacoch’s body (stripped of his own mind) is exiled to the hell-world of Charon, one of the Warden Diamond worlds being investigated for alien influences and presence. Can he survive long enough to complete his investigation in this unbearably hot world where strange creatures roam and witchcraft is a normal way of life?

About the Author

"A Reader's Guide to Science Fiction" has praised Jack L. Chalker for his ." . . inexhaustible imaginative concepts," adding that he is very popular with the non-stop action SF readers," who, in Chalker's case, number in the hundreds of thousands. Author of numerous best-sellers, Chalker is a familiar figure at SF conventions, often as a guest speaker, frequently as toastmaster.

HASH(0x96ff8390) out of 5 stars Love the books, disappointed in the kindle edition. April 8 2013

I've owned this series of books for a very long time, and recently discovered that my copies are First Edition paper backs. I wanted to read them again but didn't want to risk doing any damage to the books.

I bought the Kindle editions and the first two were perfect, a missed word here or there but nothing that interfered with the reading. Unfortunately Charon Was not as carefully converted to a kindle book.

There are entire sections of text missing, anything from half a word to entire paragraphs, just gone.

HASH(0x97260978) out of 5 stars Four books with interesting viewpoints March 14 2013

There are four (4) books in the "Lords of the Diamond" series, all of which are not only entertaining, but also have a buried commentary on possible future civilization, penal systems, and the human condition in general. This is the third of the series. As such, while it can be read as a stand-alone, it is much more enjoyable when all four books are read as a series and in order.

Though the series is now 20 years old, and not written in the style of modern science fiction, it is still enjoyable for all age brackets. For those of us who are 'older' fans, the style and content reflect the science fiction we grew up reading. As such, fans of 'cyber punk' and modern themes may not enjoy it, but it is still worthy of reading and as a reflection of how the genre has changed since the original days of "Astounding" and such magazines.

HASH(0x9705efc0) out of 5 stars Too pricey! Aug. 23 2014

1 star? Yes, because of the AMAZONE greediness! This is a series of 4 books with each book at only around 200 pages. Not only short, but about 30% of the first book is repeated over and over again in each successive making this seris WAY overpriced netting about 150 pages each! I am am avid fan of Jack Chalker's writing and although this series is a pretty good read, not his best and overall quite short.
AMAZON charges $5.99 for the first book, then books 2 & 3 go up to $7.99 each and finally the final one at $9.99 ! Cleary AMAZON is sucking it for all they can at the expense of the customer, knowing that once a series has been started an avid reader will want to finish, AMAZON is abusing their position by ripping off the buyer. Beware!

This is one of the books that i read out of sequence when i was a boy. A year or two later i bought the omnibus copy of all four. Awesome series but the prison ship portion for each world was redundant but iguess necessary. Amazon kindle edition was well done with maybe three passages were missing. It was wonderful to se one of the old masters being kindled.
