CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN MOVIE
Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt corral a wild herd of rampaging children in Cheaper by the Dozen, an enjoyable family flick. When Kate Baker (Hunt, Jerry Maguire) gets a book deal for her chronicle of their abundant family life, she also gets drawn into a book tour--leaving Tom (Martin, Bringing Down the House, The Jerk) to run the house and cope with his new, high-pressure job as a football coach. Naturally, chaos erupts, bringing the family to the brink of meltdown. Cheaper by the Dozen is not a great movie or an important movie or even a surprising movie, but it is a warm-hearted crowd-pleaser. The Bakers' family life is a bit idealized and antiseptic, but anyone looking for an escape from their own less-ideal family lives won't mind. Also featuring Tom Welling, Hilary Duff, Piper Perabo, and an uncredited Ashton Kutcher. --Bret Fetzer --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

the movie.i also liked the energy level of the film.it was very
high.the movie is entertaining for the most part.the only things i
didn't like,is that i felt Steve Martin over exaggerated his
expressions and action in some of the physical comedy.i also thought
the "inspirational" theme music was a bit overpowering at times.but
these are just small complaints.otherwise,it's a pretty good movie.i
thought the kids all did a good job acting.i really like Bonnie Hunt, who
played the wife and mother.i thought she was a standout in the movie.i
did think the ending was predictable, but i'm sure that's by design.with
most movies of this genre, you usually know how things will end up.
after the movie ended,i felt satisfied that i had got my money's
worth, which is more than can be said for many movies.i give "Cheaper by
the Dozen" a strong 3/5
Cheaper By The Dozen is about a small town couple, who partly by deign and partly by accident, end up with an even dozen biological kids. That alone should be enough to cause chaos on an epic scale, but when the mother goes on a book tour and the father takes a job in the big city, forcing the massive family to relocate, well, you ain't seen disorder on this scale in quite awhile.
WILD AND CRAZY!
Besides Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, the cast includes the wonderful kids. The eldest is played by the lovely Piper Perabo, next up is hunky (according to my wife) Tom Welling, followed by the charming Hilary Duff. A wild assortment of various younger actors fill out the rest of this huge group, all topped off with a cute dog. Keep a sharp eye out for little Liliana Mumy, who is the daughter of Will Robinson from the 1960's show Lost In Space.
DOG FOOD UNDERWEAR!
Everyone who has ever told me that Ashton Kutcher couldn't act need only to look at the Butterfly Effect and this great movie here. Every scene he is in is absolute gold, proving that the much maligned Ashton is being wasted on that awful show he is on now. Ashton Rules!
Cheaper By The Dozen provides great mirth, merriment, and heart. We have seen the classic many times over the years and have always loved it. Steve Martin is a treasure here, and thankfully he survived these kids. Whew!
The story basically goes that a family with 12 children lives in the countryside. When the father gets a coaching job in Chicago the family moves there, but the children are hesitant and angry to go. The rest mostly consists of the children being angry and the mother going on a trip touring a book called Cheaper by the Dozen.
This film is not at all great and, in my opinion, not above average. Why? Well, here's reason number one. Hilary Duff. She wrecked the movie with her terrible acting (although she could have acted a TON better,) and her SUPER ANNOYING 'fashion guru' act. She keeps on making lame mentions to fashion and make up, etc. It is really, really annoying and takes away from the film.
The second is the script. There are some bad lines (i.e. when Steve Martin is hanging from the chandelier,) and it can just make the viewer cringe. I cannot say how bad the script is sometimes. When the kids are soaking Hank's underwear in meat, I don't think the kid (if he was logical and actually knew anything about hockey,) would use an EASTON STICK to soak his underwear in meat.
I do not recommend this film, although little kids may enjoy it. They could have done so much better on the film, and I'm skipping CBTD 2.
The scene that is so funny and I kept watching over and over and over again was the scene when the dog attacks the boyfriend whose shorts were soaked in meat. He is grabbing the floor and his screams reach a falsetto that just had me laughing and crying so hard. I love that scene!!!! Then he leaves the house and is chased by more dogs and has to jump in his car. What a riot!!!!
The story is ultimately about finding a happy medium, and deciding what is more important. Career or family. It is possible to have both, but at what costs? This movie is fun for the entire family to watch.

Of course, Steve Martin is a joy to watch in almost anything, and I was expecting a reprisal of his role in the wonderful PARENTHOOD. Sadly, this was not. Read morePublished on July 19 2004 by Melissa McCauley
Waste of talent, insult to parents who can cope, and just plain bothersome. You might stay awake for the first hour, but then it gets embarassing. Read morePublished on July 16 2004 by John Bowes
