Product Description

Renata Cabral needs to hide for the weekend. Her cousin’s Valentine’s Day wedding means she’ll face embarrassing questions from her large, extended family. Questions like “Why aren’t you married yet?” Since the breakup of her last relationship, she’s not ready to answer that question. She invents a work-related excuse and escapes to a friend’s lakeside cottage.

Noah Brownlee has been hiding for two years. But now he’s ready to come home and mend his broken relationship with his brother. When a friend offers the use of his lakeside cottage, Noah arrives in the middle of a blizzard with his English Mastiff, only to find the place is already occupied. With her big brown eyes and quirky sense of humor, Renata stirs feelings he thought long dead.

As the blizzard rages, the candy hearts predict love. Can Valentine’s Day work its magic between them?

If a wonderfully crafted romance about two people, and a very large dog, trapped by a snow storm gets your attention, you’ll love Chill Out. I not only fell in love with the hero, but with the dog Spike as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm, Witty, and a Sweet Treat for Valentine's Day Feb. 8 2016
By Rochelle Weber, Roses & Thorns Reviews - Published on

Okay, I confess I’ve become a fan of Ms. Richards. I find her writing warm, humorous, entertaining, and clean, and "Chill Out" did not disappoint. Exhausted from her drive, Renata crashes on the couch as soon as she arrives at her friend’s cabin. She awakens to someone kissing her ear and finds a huge dog in her face, accompanied by a hairy hulk of a man. This was not her idea of escaping from the world on Valentine’s weekend.

Having just returned from a stint with Doctors Without Borders and acquired an English mastiff, finding a woman in the cabin he borrowed from his best friend was not Noah Brownlee’s idea of great, either. But they’re snowed in, so they may as well tolerate each other. Besides, Spike likes her, and in their brief time together, Noah’s learned to trust Spike’s instincts.

As I said above, Ms. Richard’s characters are engaging and fully-drawn. She truly does peel back their layers, but she does so with warmth and humor, and in this case a little bit of magical candy. But don’t take my word for it. Buy "Chill Out" and enjoy it yourself—especially if you want to escape on Valentine’s Day.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Snowstorm and a Quirky Drooling Dog Make This Romance Special Jan. 4 2016

Renata Cabral, an account, wants to escape the family for Valentine’s Day weekend and have a quiet time at a cottage by Falcon Lake, an hour’s drive from Winnipeg. Through miscommunication by the owners, Noah Brownlee, a doctor for Doctors Without Borders, and his very large English Mastiff and drooling dog, Spike, have the same idea.

Noah is estranged from his brother, Dylan. Renata is tired of the family believing she must find a husband. When a snowstorm arrives quickly, allowing neither to leave, they are forced to share the cottage and face the problems they are running from.

This is a fun read. By inserting Spike, who immediately falls in love with Renata, into the story, Jana Richards adds a touch of joy and laughter to the story. After all, who doesn’t love dogs and enjoy a good romance?
5.0 out of 5 stars slobbery dog be part of a love story? He can when he’s Spike - Noah ... Jan. 4 2016

Can a big, slobbery dog be part of a love story? He can when he’s Spike - Noah Brownlee’s English Mastiff who falls just as quickly for Renata Cabral as his master.
When Noah and Renata find themselves unintentionally riding out a snowstorm at a mutual friend’s cabin they discover they have more in common than just a desire to escape Valentine’s Day. Both are avoiding a painful part of their past, but as their love grows along with their desire they realize moving on will be easier with each other’s support.
I really enjoyed the development of the story and discovering the characters’ backstory as they became closer. The attraction and tension between the two was believable and kept me turning the pages. Spike added comic relief and became an integral aspect of Noah and Renata’s relationship.

An unexpected roommate, a snow storm, and a pushy dog make this story fun and sweet. You can almost feel the tension between the hero and heroine and the large, slobbery dog gives this story the right amount of humor. A wonderful read.

Throw two strangers together in a place they thought they'd be alone. Add Valentine's Day, a snowstorm, and a cozy cabin and you get romance. I enjoyed this book very much.
