The biggest is the notion of having an idea journal. I have heard this before, but it was not until I read how James used it to pull himself up after hitting rock bottom that I saw the true potential. It has been 4+ weeks and counting and I an amazed how transformative that idea has been.
The second is the power of gratitude. James isn't the first to talk about this. I remember reading something about Oprah doing it. I did try it for awhile but I didn't really have a strong enough "why" to continue it for any significant length of time. But after reading "Choose Yourself" I got it. Gratitude is a muscle, just as generating ideas is a muscle. You have to work at developing both otherwise they wither and their transformational powers are squandered.
And third, I truly believe transparency is the new online currency. James holds nothing back. And that is what makes his book so ans his story so special. It's not a book filled with self-help references. It's a book filled with practical advice about his journey to rebuild his life one day at a time with a few core principles.
Without question this has been the most influential book (person) in my life in 2013. Much thanks Senor Altucher. :-)
James writes in a very click-baity way. He's clearly very good at writing, and his fan base shows that very well. What you need to know when you read this book is that it's highly geared towards entrepreneurs.
As much as I'd agree that the world is moving towards an economy with more entrepreneurs and less people working at day jobs, being an entrepreneur just isn't for everyone. That being said, I think everyone should consider the possibility of becoming one and how easy it can actually be in 2016.
Read this if you're feeling lost in life. Just make sure you know that this isn't some kind of practical step-by-step guide for anything. It's more of a mirror so you can look back at yourself and figure out what you really want out of life.
