HASH(0xa1a472dc) out of 5 stars True to her word Jan. 2 2005
By I. Dando - Published on
Format: Audio CD
In her sleeve note Barbara Nissman claims,"This recording will underscore the dichotomy that exists within Chopin's beloved piano repertoire - the emotional complexity of its interior world lies hidden beneath the lyrical simplicity of its outer layers."

This dichotomy is certainly palpable, especially in the two large masterpieces - Fantasy in F minor Op 49 and the Polonaise-Fantasy Op 61, where simmering emotional unrest ripples under the surface of Nissman's sensitively conceived interpretations.

These are innovative performances from a deep thinking pianist whose tempo rubato and singing line, in her phrsasing of the three Nocturnes especially, single her out as a born Chopin player.

Ian Dando. Music critic New Zealand Listener.

HASH(0xa18e2240) out of 5 stars Nissman collaborates with Chopin Jan. 22 2014
By R. W. Rynerson - Published on
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Of course, performing work by Chopin for a top-notch pianist must be like an Olympic ice skater doing compulsory figures, but Ms. Nissman gives one the feeling that she is collaborating with Chopin, rather than tackling him. There is no wasted effort added to the music. The album liner notes offer some key information.

The purity of this music inspired me to get into a Central European history book I'd been meaning to read; so two times played resulted in 150 minutes of enjoyment and learning.
