If you like her (and Jordan Officer) then you'll probably like this Christmas Album a lot.
It's always nice to have a wider variety of less obvious Christmas songs on rotation during the holidays.
And I love Susie Arioli.
So I was happy like a kid on Christmas morning when Susie Arioli, with the awesome Jordan Officer, came out with their first Christmas album last year (2010).
I own all of Susie Arioli's album (and Jordan Officer's eponymous CD too of course).
Like I said in the title of this review, Susie Arioli has the softest and warmest voice in jazz today. I just melt when I hear her voice.
So I knew I was going to like this CD no matter what.
Yet, CHRISTMAS DREAMING went way beyond my high expectations.
What a charming, smooth, relaxing, pure joy of an album!
There's a great selection of songs here, some classic standards (Susie's "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is right up there with Judy's and Frankie's versions), some rediscovered treasures ("Old Toy Trains" written by the great Roger Miller*), and some clever choices that you don't usually hear in this type of album but do seem to fit so well in here ("When You Wish Upon A Star").
I own a LOT of Christmas albums. I kinda collect them and I pride myself on having the best.
Since last year (2010), Susie Arioli's (with Jordan Officer) CHRISTMAS DREAMING has become my favorite Christmas CD of all time.
*: LEARN TO SMILE AGAIN, probably Susie Arioli & Jordan Officer's best album, was dedicated to Roger Miller and included a lot of his songs. I will never thank Susie and Jordan enough to have introduced me to this great songwriter.

If you are lucky enough to already be aquainted with Ms. Arioil, what the heck are you waiting for?
This is a great CD to listen to at Christmastime or any time.
The singer and band work together very well, covering several styles of music, and performing a mix or classics and (unjustly) forgotten classics.
Some tracks have very sharp bass work, and some have extremely chugging rhythym guitar playing. Virtually all have supple and talented lead guitar, and commanding vocals.
No awful string section overdubs, no dopey overwrought singing, no anaesthetising choral overdubs, no metronimic drumming.
Crisp and clean. Bet you can't buy just one....
