When reading a Stylo Fantome book you know you are in for a treat. This book is dark and twisted, addictive and fascinating to read, I really didn't want it to end. The anticipation was written really well with complex characters that intrigued me so much that I couldn't get enough of them.
Church is a very unusual young man with lots of issues. He is a deep thinker and very rarely speaks to anyone unless of course, he chooses to. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing, a loner with an ethereal quality about him, so when he first gets to meet Emma, his stepsister, he is quite put out and wants nothing to do with her. Emma has other idea's but she also has a past that has damaged her badly which reflects in her personality. Both of these characters are broken, twisted, unique and very different from one another and yet against all the odds are drawn to each other like magnets.
This book takes your mind on a journey it just can't cope with, it is a mind F*** of the best kind and just when you think you know where this story is heading it takes a complete turn and holy moly you'll never guess where this will take you, just brilliant storytelling at it's best and I cannot wait for October to arrive to get my hands on the second book to get more of Emma and Church's story. Brilliant !
I still don't know what to make of it. There were parts that I absolutely loved... and parts I absolutely hated. Sometimes I didn't know which way was up and the characters didn't help me with directions.
I'm still trying to figure things out.
I'm still trying to come to grips with what I just read. Was it romantic? Nope. If that's what you call romance, count me out. It was about a girl who became irrationally obsessed, possessed, and non-functional over her new step-brother. I mean this girl had no clue who she even was anymore. She lost her whole identity to this thing she called 'love'. She acted worse than a preteen over their celebrity crush.
Coming like Church had Emma speaking in tongues for real. POSSESSED!!
So here's the deal... Church was the hot boy that every girl wanted and every boy wanted to be. He barely spoke. Most people even forgot that he could speak. For some reason, he speaks to Emma. He's been diagnosed as a pseudo-sociopath with narcissistic tendencies (or at least he should have been). He's got a manipulative streak a mile long, he's something of a genius, and he believes that humans are beneath him. Oh and he dreams of killing. Mmmmm... yummy!
So what do a sociopath and a depressed psycho do together? Why they have conversations sprinkled with rough sex. But these conversations reveal nothing of Church and everything of Emma. She hands him the manual on how to get her to do anything he wants. And then he molds her into the monster he needs. Perfection!
So Joker and Harley... I mean... Church and Emma start plotting to carry out a murder he wants done. It draws them closer and drives Emma crazier. It creates a world of madness that no one, not even the characters themselves, were prepared for. It ends on a tragic note but the author gives us some hope (love that glimpse of the next book at the end). So will I be staying tuned for the continuation of this story? You freaking bet your azz I will!
Emma has many issues that plague her, and they make her acceptance difficult. When she meet’s Church for the first time, he takes over her darkest’s feelings, she is drawn to him like no other. Church finds himself reacting differently to Emma. But he’s pleased, he’s found a perfect subject he can push his suggestions and mold her to his will.
This was a riveting story that had me hooked right from the start. The whole mixed up, craziness of the characters and the utter darkness of the clever storyline had me enthralled. I can’t wait for the next book, to read more about Church and Emma.
A terrific “dark” read!

This novel sees the story of Emma and Church. Two people who are both different from the norm, who find a connection with each other that sees the start of a wicked plot. What played out from then was a tale that shocked the hell out of me, but at the same time, I couldn't stop reading. I could never in a million years have predicted what was happening in the pages before me. My stomach was in knots as I realised the darkness that surrounded both Church and Emma.
With brilliant writing and an evil story-line, this is a book that I would recommend. But it's not for the fainthearted. Now, I have to wait for book two and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Church and Emma are perfectly matched in their ways, both are products of their past that has left an indelible mark on them both yet you will question if they should stay as far away from each other as possible as they feed on each others darkness. Amazing characters that are complex twisted individuals. I adored them both though. They feed on each others darkness and left me wondering exactly who was the one leading their path through the chaos they are together?
This is a read that totally sucks you in and takes you on the best rollercoaster of emotions , and is excellently delivered, just as you think you're going one way there's an hidden angle that gives you whiplash.
I really can't wait for the second book to see where Church and Emma's story goes.
Stylo Fantome has done it again.
Dubious characters, that in themselves aren't really likable, stable or "normal". A man who is silent. A young woman who TALKS - way too much! Emma's fascination with Church is warped. And Church? He's just warped. It's not what I'd call a love story. There's too much obsession and darkness for it to be love story.
But these two characters fit together perfectly. They egg one another on to darker and darker things. They're erotic and there's hot bloodplay. And I really need to know more.
I suspect this is just the warm up for an explosive second book. I know I can't wait to get my hands on it!
