This... was probably one of the best books I've read this year.

It was incredibly good, and so refreshing, because it didn't feel like a classic fantasy book. Martha Wells didn't borrow any of the usual settings. She created her own and it worked wonderfully.

The writing is gorgeous and engaging, the world is vast and richly described, and the characters alone are worth a special mention - I loved every one of them.

Even the women (ESPECIALLY the women), which are rarely my favorite characters.

The Raksura are mostly a matriarchal society, and it felt wonderful reading about so many well-developed women having such an important role in the story.

This is my first Martha Wells books, and I am impressed.

I will definitively buy more.

Absolutely loved this. Wells is at the cutting edge of fantasy, and this is a great introduction to the Three Worlds and the Raksura. I recommend this book to everyone I know -- roomates, officemates, relatives, people on my soccer team, you name it.

This is one of the best new fantasy novels I've read in a long time. Wells is a master world builder and the world she has created for this novel is fascinating and detailed. The characters are also well drawn and engaging. Overall, this is one of the most original fantasy novels I've encountered in years and it's highly recommended.
The sequel, Serpent Seas, is also a great read.

Martha Wells created a very believable protagonist in Moon that I could really relate to on so many levels. Who am I? Where do I belong? That's a question that we all ask at one time or another...of course we don't all get to have amazing flying adventures along the way to self discovery! If you enjoy Mercedes Lackey or Kate Forsythe, this would be a good fit for you.
