Product Description

When I was fourteen years old, I killed for the first time. That day I learned cruelty wasn’t only within the walls we had just escaped.

It hasn’t been easy growing up in the middle of a war. A struggle to find shelter. Fighting to protect our bodies against the corruption of the streets. Nobody cared about the street kids who had to beg and steal to eat.

Now we are the Portland Street Kings – A family forged through loyalty not blood. To get through this life of broken dreams alive, we’ve become hard, uncaring and merciless. We do what must be done to keep our family safe, we will harm those who stand against us.

We have it all, feared and respected by those on the streets. Then she collided into my world, and with her came demons from my past, back to haunt us all.

When I first learned of this new series from Evie Harper, I knew right away that it was one that I would be reading. The plotline and characters looked so fresh and original and I was literally dying to get my hands on this first book in the series. Collision starts out with a bang, the drama and intensity draw you into the story from the very first few words, spinning a dark tale of foster children trapped in the house from hell. After a tragedy strikes, a young Slater manages to free himself and a few other children from the grasp of a vicious man. Together, they form their own family, one intent on always looking out for each other and protecting each other with their very lives.

When we next see the children, they have grown up - grown up hard. They are now the The Portland Street Kings, the most feared and respected gang in Portland. They offer protection to those that need it, and fierce punishments to those that cross them. Family is their priority, running the streets plays a close second. What I loved about this was that over the years, they didn’t lose the bond they built in that horrible home, it only strengthened with time. Each character is complex and I know I’m going to be picking up the rest of the books in this series to get to know their stories.

Piper is not a woman that makes impulsive decisions. Cursed with a stutter that leaves her with a low self-esteem and feeling of self-consciousness, she tends to avoid situations that make her flustered or uncomfortable out of fear of pity or disgust over her impediment. Meeting Slater in a bar one night changes all that, the sparks fly between them and their connection is immediate. Denying him is not an option and Piper is surprised to find she doesn’t want to.

HASH(0x9f182198) out of 5 stars Series has potential - but I would like to see more maturity, and less "germy" sex. April 20 2015
By Bambi_Unbridled - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This series has lots of potential. Its a gangbanger romance. (At least I think that's a trope now.) Obviously, being gang members, the men are all tattooed bad boys. There was lots of drama, a good amount of action, and a really good plot twist. All good things for fans of these types of books.

That being said, while being a good enough read, the story did not resonate with me. It was lacking a level of maturity that I would expect from 30 y/o characters. I thought, based on the super emotional and engaging prologue, that this book would get under my skin. But we go right from the prologue to raunchy sex in the bathroom of the bar, where the girl is holding on to the nasty toilet seat. At one point she even rests her head on her arms on the toilet seat. This grossed me out so much that the story started to unravel. I mean, ew, public toilet seat in a bar??? And you know public toilets dont have lids - so she was up close and personal with some nasty bodily fluids and lots of germs. I wanted to shower just reading it. And it was repeated every night for the next 3 weeks! No thank you. Why couldn't they just do it against the wall? Another thing... most of the sex was doggystyle. I prefer variety in my smut, otherwise I'm just gonna skim those parts.

I think this book may appeal to a younger crowd, but I wouldn't be surprised if the over-30 age group aren't satisfied. 3 stars / 3 flames. I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

HASH(0x9f184258) out of 5 stars feel the full impact of Collision... March 23 2015

Collision: the act of colliding...

Evie Harper takes you on a ride where hidden truths are revealed, and family secrets exposed as we drift through this alternative world she has created full of street thugs, fast cars and brutal beatings. This is a ride through the harsh streets of Portland where potholes, twists and turns exist on every road.

Slater. In the prologue you see him as child full of raw emotions. Skip to Chapter One and you see him as the man he has become. He is the King, the oldest of his siblings and he's hardcore. Growing up on the streets, being tough was his only option in order to protect his family. And he will go to any lengths to do just that. With the constant battle between an old friend and his gang, Slater has his hands more than full and isn't looking for anything more than a night. Especially with his loss that hangs over his head and clouds his heart while haunting his soul. But for Slate, one night turns into another night and before he knows it, he's in deep.

Piper. This woman is strong and her strength throughout this novel did not go unnoticed. Even though she was vulnerable at times, she could be just as feisty and sassy. She didn't hold back any punches when it came to Slater and always let him know what was on her mind instead of going back and forth in her head about it. Add in the fact that you can see her come into her own from the very first chapter you meet her to the epilogue and I couldn't help but fall for her as well!

Together, these two take you on an unforgettable ride full of sensuality, suspense, acceptance, love and vulnerability. With Slater's vulgar mouth and Piper's wanton ways, you are sure to be left feeling more than promiscuous as you feel the full impact of Collision.

HASH(0x9f1843a8) out of 5 stars Great action, suspense, surprises and sexy romance March 26 2015
By Debbie - Published on Amazon.com

WOW! I loved this book. It's got romance, suspense, action, surprises and a whole cast of great characters. I'm looking forward to learning more about each of them.

Slater was fourteen years old when he helped the other foster kids at the home they were living escape after discovering the foster dad had killed the youngest girl, Mia. They grew up and lived on the streets and are now feared and respected as the Portland Street Kings. They may not be family by blood, but they are family in the ways that matter and would die for one another. They protect their city and neighborhood and offer help to kids, families and businesses who need it. They're not above breaking the law, but they are fair and under their rough exteriors are really great guys. Slater meets Piper one night at a bar after he kicks a dude's a$$ who makes fun of her for stuttering. There's something electric between he and Piper. They don't make plans to see each other again, buy neither can stay away. After weeks of meeting up at the bar, they finally make plans to officially go on a date. Only Slater discovers Piper works for Child Protective Services...the very people who left he and his family with that terrible foster man. Slater struggles with his feelings for Piper and the fact that what she does for a living is something he resents and hates. But when he finds out that a rival street gang knows how important Piper is to him, and are planning on going after her, it's not a hard decision to make to protect her.

This book was so different from others I've read. I was wrapped up in this story from the very beginning and read it straight through without stopping. I loved Slater immediately. He's possessive, rude and overwhelmingly - and the minute he starts that sexy talk, I melted right alongside Piper. Dang the man could string words together. Piper is a strong and caring character and the perfect match for Slater. She doesn't back down from him, and when she learns the reason he tries to make himself hate her, she's more determined to show him she's different from other CPS officers. There are a number of twists and oh s!?t moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. I loved every bit of this first in the series and I'm gonna have to find me some more books by this author to read until Mack's book is released next.

HASH(0x9f1879e4) out of 5 stars ★☆★5 ‘Love & Loyalty’ Stars★☆★ March 23 2015

★☆★5 ‘Love & Loyalty’ Stars★☆★

There are so many words that instantly come to mind when I think of this whirlwind story that is Collision. Yet, none of them would be enough to do it justice in my review. If you have not yet one clicked this unique, original story, then do so now, because no review you read will let it be known how truly incredible this tale of love, loyalty and honour really is.

Fast cars. Steamy sex scenes. Family love. Crime and punishment.

Collison is the dual POV story of Slater and Piper. Slater and Piper start off nothing more than casual, but underneath those hard exteriors they are both are aware of the growing attraction that’s forming into a special bond, something more than just sexual desire. When retaliation strikes the Portland Street Kings, Piper finds herself in immediate danger. Thrown into their lifestyle for her own safety, Piper learns more than she BARGAINED for about the outlaw thugs, and is isn’t all so bad.

While trying to decipher feelings he hasn’t felt for another female since he was a boy, Slater fights to save his family. There’s bumps along every road in Portland for the Street Kings, can Slater WIN this war and protect his family? Protect the woman he’s falling for?

The built up angst, the race to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next, it all had my heart pumping the entire time I was reading this story. I could seriously not get enough and no matter how long or short this book was to be, when I came to the end I still found myself wanting more. The original storyline, descriptive writing and well developed characters brought Collision to life and allowed me to create a vivid world where I watched in on their lives. Slater and Piper are just so damn loveable. All the Kings are, and now I want each of their stories, like yesterday, Miss Evie Harper!

Evie has really outdone herself with this amazing, refreshingly unique novel that leads into a whole series of what I’m sure will be full of her usual epic writing and heart stopping storylines.

Collision is written is a way that captivates you from the very first page, Evie’s writing is hypnotic and once you start reading this story you will not want to stop. Slater and Piper will pull into their world and show you what real family loyalty and love is, show you the kind of thrill fast cars can give you, and ultimately, show you what true love makes us capable of.

Thank you Evie, for giving me the opportunity to beta read Collision and help Slater and Piper on their life journeys. This is a must read for all romance lovers out there.

HASH(0x9edf7918) out of 5 stars Loved Slater and his protectiveness March 28 2016
By Mignon Mykel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
4.5 / 5 stars

In a week of books that either gripped me or lost me, this was one that pulled me out of my reading slumps. From the beginning, I was gripped with emotional turmoil. We learn just the type of man Slater was as a young teen boy, and who he is as an adult. He was the first in his abusive foster home, and as such, he fought to protect the children who became his siblings.

As an adult, not only does Slater keep his family close, but he and his family run, essentially, a gang to keep the streets clean of cruel people. Everyone knows who they are, but few people truly care. They know the good the do. The one type of person Slate cannot, will not, stand, are those who put foster kids in the homes he grew up in.

When Slater first sees Piper, they're instantly drawn to one another. He protects her from a bully, and his harshness becomes a blanket for Piper. She opens up to him, she finds solace in him... just as his siblings have and the kids on the street. Granted, their initial encounters are purely sexual, but as their time grows and they begin talking, their chemistry is evident. I loved Mack's responses to Piper, too -- I felt he was the first to give her the brother vibe, accepting her into their family.

I loved Slater's feelings for Piper. I loved how he hurt, emotionally and physically, when she was so startled and nervous. He was rough and tough, so at times his hurt came across as anger, but the core was always his need to protect.

I will say this : I normally see twists from a mile away, and there's one in this book that I truly did not see coming.

This book was incredibly strong up until about the half-way mark. The suspense line took a drastic turn, one that wasn't truly foreshadowed in what I would consider an appropriate way -- it comes from left-field. The story telling started to feel choppy at about that point, as well (if it weren't for that, this would easily be a 5-star for me). It was easy to overlook, though, with my love for the characters; I can't wait to read Fatal for review on the 30th!
